Agreed. I don't understand the obsession with this info other than it is safe ground for people who are uncomfortable with trans people being publicly welcome in society.

I coached girl's sports for over a decade. I also have a spouse that worked in the OR for sex change operations over 30 years ago. I fully appreciate that gender dysphoria is real. I also believe in protecting sports for biological females.

I have absolutely zero issue with an adult person going through treatment programs to change their gender. I do have an issue with biological females being negatively impacted in any way when biological men transition. (I also believe there is a very serious / real mental health component that is being cast aside in the name of gender spectrums and self selection, and that is flat wrong). I have absolute issues with children making this decision, from schools coaching kids to do it, for parent rights being removed, etc. You can't vote until 18, drink until 21, own a gun until 21...but you can make irreversible life choices that will impact your entire life when you are say 14 and have an undeveloped brain. That is wrong.

I just think there's a fundamental need for some common sense on this issue. Bathrooms and locker rooms are private zones where people rightly expect some fundamental things. That is not unreasonable. Likewise, I'm not sure there has been a single instance ever of a female transitioning to male, playing male sports and injuring boys or dominating the sport. Calling this stuff out is not de-facto being uncomfortable with trans people. It is saying that other people have rights too.

This is the most intelligent post on this thread, because it is grounded n personal experience.
Perhaps Mrs Tequila would like to educate us on hermaphroditism! I'm completely serious!

I don't understand what makes men what to plow women, instead of a man, except that it's some unknown trigger. Pheromones. Sexy boobs, butts, soft voice? Why do Playboy centerfolds illicit a physical response, while Gayboy magazine produces a revulsion response? Those things are real and pretty much universal.

Well, a switch gets flipped, and it's the exact opposite for "gays". So, I'm not asking you or your wife to explain that.

But I would ask her opinion on what she's maybe seen in the OR as to physical body parts that are not the norm. Like, they say that the ****oris and the ***** are the same things.

Society needs more information in order to put all this into context. In the meantime, we just get fear of change and the unknown.

Props to Jesse Watters for admitting that he doesn't really care about the WNBA and is sick of talking about it. I think that accounts for a lot of the people who are trying to make hay of this on social media; it's just for clout, not because they are actually worried about women's sports.

If the league doesn't have a clear standard about who qualifies as the proper gender to play then they should probably create one. Not because of Royce White or Enes Kanter (they aren't actually trying to play) but because at some point you might come across a scammer who is actually trying to get into the league and there should probably be some rules around that. Ultimately that's up to them, though, and I don't actually care that much. There's not a real problem right now.

You are conflating real issues with the relatively trivial issue of who can play in women's sports. The sports issue gets more talk than any of the other issues you brought up and is less important than any of the other issues you brought. It also happens to be the most popular wedge issue for conservative politicians on the trans issue.
Censorship has always been a tool of the fascist

The thing that gets lost in the shuffle is that when someone physically transitions (not just "self-identifies" as a woman) they are actually taking female hormones that change the body composition. This affects athletic performance along with many of the other things that hormones affect. That's why I thought that some of the original rules instituted by the NCAA or Olympic Committee to address trans women were solid enough at one time: they didn't allow a man to just show up and say they're a woman, they had to prove they were on hormones, had certain testosterone levels, etc.

Since then I've learned more and now I think it's actually not clear how much those hormones do to make trans competition "fair." They do reduce athletic performance for males transitioning to female, that's clear, but is it enough? That's still an open question. I'm actually interested in this because I think it's theoretically possible for trans women to fairly compete in some sports, given the right drugs, but the issue is so politicized now that it's not going to happen. It's also such a niche problem that I can't get all that worked up about. (And yes, I do also blame trans activists to some degree for taking their own maximalist position and trying to enforce a black-and-white norm of their own, which helped create a backlash.)

The Valkyries are more relevant than Cal MBB in that they sold out 22 home games at Chase Center. I haven't been to a Cal MBB game in a decade but would definitely opt in to a Valkyries game instead because it promises to be an entertaining cultural event not a minor league basketball game.

Yes!
And, I don't think it's fair that someone could grow with male bones sizing and mass, then just take hormones. That's not equal.

But neither is Brittany Griner. She's literally like half man by appearances. Certainly Semanya Caster is both genders.

The grandfather said when she was born they looked at her, saw a baby girl, and raised her as such. Then puberty kicked in.
We think gender/sex is determined by XX or XY genes. That's not all there is.

And we will never get to black/white delineations because there are actually shades of grey. We just don't all understand them.

Thus, this issue isn't going to be solved.

If people care, go ahead and debate. But I do t think they actually care one bit about the people involved. It's just a rant against the "others" who threaten the comfy status quo in their heads, whether those other are a different race, religion, sexual preference, nationality, or "Furds", for instance. (Unless you marry one of them because you've looked past the original training manual). Mankind divides the "us" group from the "them" group as an evolutionary survival mechanism.

What "cultural event" happens at a Valkyrie's game??
I don't consider it interesting to witness gay women playing hoops just for the fact that there are gay women doing it.
Is there a halftime show or something in the crowds?

If they play decent ball, great. I've enjoyed Cal women hoops in Haas!

The issue has existed in the sports world for a long while but we just didn't know about. For example, I am aware of a former elite WNBA player who would be in the news today.

If true, this indicates that women's sports actually have been able to assimilate trans athletes in the past and whole purpose of gender divisions was not destroyed.

Not going to comment further on this specific case until we know more about it.

But the claim (one of them anyway) from the anti-trans side is that if you let trans athletes into the women's game it will destroy the women's game. If they were already around then maybe that's not true.

You are now essentially calling me a liar. Not appreciated. I have said enough in this thread that you should be able to know how I might hypothetically know such a thing. And given that this athlete never went public and it is a very private matter there's no way in hell I'm saying more who, what, when or what.

Well, if you're unwilling to tell us who you're referring to, it's the exact definition of an unconfirmed example. You should know that around here "Take my word for it that there is one." doesn't fly with those having opposing views. It's probably best not to mention it at all if you're not willing to let us know who it is and let us make up our own minds.

The responses are an example of the general jackassery on this board. There is no "side" to a statement that a player from 25-30 years was not perfectly traditionally male/female. I just googled the person. They have not come out in any way. I am not doing it for them. If people cannot understand or respect that I don't know what to tell you. Besides, even if I did what good would it do? You gonna go track the player down and do an exam? This board sometimes…

I am struggling to see how anything said by me or Eastern here qualifies as "jackassery." Sorry, but I don't know you personally and you have only made vague references to someone in the WNBA being trans or maybe intersex (I'm guessing). How is that not "unconfirmed" from my perspective?

This is not a serious thing and these guys are obviously doing it for political attention.

But yes, the league should have some kind of eligibility standard if it doesn't already. Legitimately have no idea if they do.

apparently if you self-identify as trans you qualify. In White's case it clearly is motivated. The other guy hard to say. He made serious coin in the NBA and WNBA doesn't pay that well. Might be fronting for a lawyer looking for a case. With all the other headaches the WNBA had with Clark, reffing issues, etc. they don't need this wedge issue now.

Well, just today, DiJonai Carrington clobbered Sophia Cunningham, pulling her down from behind by her neck while she was shooting a wide open layup, and, upon review, was given a flagrant 2 and ejected. She went on Threads after the game and posted "White Privilege."

In the same game, Caitlin Clark was bumped out of bounds by the defender while making a dime to a cutting forward from the baseline. Caitlin inadvertently bumped the rep and, instead of people talking about the nice pass, the ref stopped the play to give CC a technical foul for bumping her. This tech was immediately rescinded after the game because it was obvious to everybody but the ref that it was an accident.

Catty garbage.

Not sure another spot to post this since we were also talking about WNBA issues overall.

The obvious question to the link below is, if Carrington didn't mean the obvious interpretation of her social media post, what exactly did she mean? Since she gave no reasonable alternative explanation, I believe she is a liar and just expects people to fall in line with her because she tells them to.

I disagree. Many girls and women care deeply about this topic, especially those particpating in Olympic sports, though opinions and viewpoints do vary widely. Public polling and discussions show a significant portion of female athletes and the general public express concerns regarding competitive fairness and physical safety, and that a smaller, yet significant portion of the population believe it is about rights and inclusion issue. You may not care, but the pubic does.

When the record in the Men's Mile fell after 27 years recently, I looked a couple of things up.

The records in the Women's 800m and 400m have remained unbroken for 43 and 41 years, respectively. There is a reason for that.

The records in the Women's 800m and 400m have remained unbroken for 43 and 41 years, respectively. There is a reason for that.

Longest standing world record in track and field.
1:53.28

Jarmila Kratochvlov (Czechoslovakia) on July 26, 1983, in Munich, Germany.

She looks pretty yoked up in photos. Steroids?

Several former Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc female athletes have come forward over the years claiming that they were basically being turned into men through chemistry.

The issue has existed in the sports world for a long while but we just didn't know about. For example, I am aware of a former elite WNBA player who would be in the news today.

If true, this indicates that women's sports actually have been able to assimilate trans athletes in the past and whole purpose of gender divisions was not destroyed.

If this player was elite as mentioned, it would prove the exact opposite.

Not going to comment further on this specific case until we know more about it.

But the claim (one of them anyway) from the anti-trans side is that if you let trans athletes into the women's game it will destroy the women's game. If they were already around then maybe that's not true.

its one example played out it what seems a don't ask don't tell environment so I wouldn't draw too many conclusions. Big chasm between this and a policy in support of trans in the league

Yes, and one unconfirmed example at that.

You are now essentially calling me a liar. Not appreciated. I have said enough in this thread that you should be able to know how I might hypothetically know such a thing. And given that this athlete never went public and it is a very private matter there's no way in hell I'm saying more who, what, when or what.

Yeah, let's say 75% of the nation cares.
But .000075% are ever going to compete against a man turned woman. That's what I was saying.

And I'm saying that gap exists because of fear of change, fear of outside threats to the status quo.

In the United States, the annual percentage of people who are murdered is roughly 0.005% of the population. Why do we care about how we treat murderers?

The Untouchable Records
800 Meters: 1:53.28.
Jarmila Kratochvlov of Czechoslovakia.
July 26, 1983 in Munich, Germany.

400 Meters: 47.60 seconds.
Marita Koch of East Germany.
October 6, 1985 in Canberra, Australia.

Why Have They Lasted So Long?

The longevity of these times is highly controversial. Both marks were established during an era heavily marred by unregulated, state-sponsored doping programs in Eastern Europe. While neither athlete ever failed a drug test, unsealed documents later confirmed widespread systemic steroid distribution in their respective nations during the 1980s.

Despite major advancements in track surfaces, nutrition, and carbon-plated spike technology, modern clean athletes have spent decades struggling to even come close to these marks.

Modern Challengers Closing the GapWhile once considered completely unbreakable, a new generation of generational talents is finally threatening these historical times:

In the 400m: American star Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone clocked a blistering 47.78 seconds, coming within 0.18 seconds of Marita Koch's record.

In the 800m: British Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson (1:54.33) and Swiss prodigy Audrey Werro (1:53.80) are spearheading the fastest era of women's mid-distance running in forty years.

At first blush, it may seem that you've made a good point.
On second thought, not.

You're equating sporting competition to death.
Further, anyone could be the victim of murder. Not just anyone could be the victim of…. getting run past in a foot race by the wrong person?
