I also think this is a big mistake by the right wing, going after Indians. That's a pretty wealthy and successful and visible group of immigrants right there; the public isn't going to buy those negative claims like they might for Somalis.

How does this guy represent the right wing? I have never heard of him. Is he an elected official?

No one person represents the entire right wing, but you must have a pretty curated Twitter bubble if you haven't seen the unabashed anti-Indian sentiment rising among right-wing MAGA types.

This man is the Republican nominee for Railroad Commissioner in Texas, a statewide office that handles regulation of oil and gas and other fuels.

I haven't seen the unabashed anti-Indian sentiment rising among right-wing MAGA types. Hopefully, he doesn't get elected.

Me neither nor have I heard of this guy. Hopefully he doesn't win.

For context though, French's 663,679 votes would probably represent only roughly 79% of Texas's Republican/Republican-leaning registered voters. Not exactly fair to categorize this as an entire right wing issue.

So what percentage would represent the right wing? 85%? 90%? 95%?

7-9% is an incredibly small number to say it represents the whole population.
You typed 79%, not 7-9%. If it's truly 7%-9%, then I'd agree with you.
he got 51 percent of the gop voters, so I'm not so sure what the 7 percent signifies

7-9% of right leaning registered voters, as stated earlier.
lots of registered voters didn't vote. The ones that did you think would reflect the will of ALL of the people at the same run rate . So more than 50 percent of voters and registered non voters.

For what it's worth, in the Republican primary, Ken Paxton got 886,000 votes or 64% of the vote. French's 663,000 votes would be about 3/4 of that or 48% of the Republican voters. That's quite a bit higher than 7-9%. You can probably wiggle the numbers somewhat, but I can't see how you can fudge away 40% even if you decide every single Republican that didn't vote thinks like you want them to.

which is an absurd assumption he won the primary with 51pwrcent of the vote. It's most likely that it's likely that 51 percent of the non voters would vote the same.
So 644k + ( x*51%) / (all gop registered voters)

Where x. = registered voters not voting

Way the hell more than 7-9%

You didn't show me your math, you showed numbers.

It's really simple. 18 million ish registered voters in Texas. Let's say half, which is an undersell, of them are right leaning. 9 million right leaning voters. Just under 700,000 voted for French.

700,000 divided by 9,000,000 = 0.077777777

7.77%

Sad, for those of us here who are interested in engaging in a good faith discussion.

He explained his calculation in a post. It was very clear.

Sad that some of you can't do simple division and claim to have gone to Cal.

I understand the math. It's the application that is bad.

Nah, he explained his numbers. Don't hate on the math because it doesn't fit your narrative

Has nothing to do with narrative.
His denominator was clearly wrong.

Thinks only 7percent of Texan republicans are hard liners that think like this guy is a good one and based on some absurd calculation that makes no sense at all. Ok.

This guy Bo really own his racism and get it out there so we can see who he really is. Trump would never take back a racist statement like this, why should he? lol.

I didn't understand his calculation either.
It appeared highly flawed to me.

In my opinion, there was no good faith interest in discussing how he arrived at his calculation and what assumptions were made that went into that calculation.

Sad, for those of us here who are interested in engaging in a good faith discussion.

Explain in English what the 7.9% is? Can you please do that at least? Or do you have to have someone explain it to you. It's the number of Bo's Votes Divided by the Total Number of registered voters in Texas?

You didn't read very well. It's Bo's votes divided by the total number of right/registered Republicans in Texas. 9 million is not the entire voting population of Texas. Don't act like this and then be wrong.

"For context though, French's 663,679 votes would probably represent only roughly 79% of Texas's Republican/Republican-leaning registered voters. Not exactly fair to categorize this as an entire right wing issue."

Why are you showing me what I already said and what confirms exactly what I said? Bo's votes represent 7%-9% of right leaning vote. The percentage would be half of that if it was being divided by total registered voters in Texas

Are you having a hard time with comprehension?

18 mil voters in Texas
9 mil right or right leaning
700,000 Bo voters/9,000,000 right/right leaning registered voters=7%ish

Argue against the way he's using his numbers, sure, but the math speaks for itself. Really don't know why you're arguing that.

its a meaningless number because you can't explain what it means. Pretend like you have to tell your boss what this 8% means to him/her. Or is it just a number of some random calculation?

This is the last time I'll respond to you on this. The number represents the total percentage of right leaning voters in Texas who voted for French. If he was more popular among the right leaning voters in Texas, more would have gotten out and voted for him. I'm done watching you twist into a pretzel over this rudimentary math.

Primaries are always low turnout no matter who is on the ballot, so I'm not sure what this back-and-forth about the exact number of votes accomplishes. French got enough of the vote from Republicans who bothered to turn out. We'll see if he wins the general despite these racist comments.

Plenty of people have won races after making racist comments, on both sides.

This guy seems a lot more direct about it, though. I mean, unless you're going back to the 60s or something.

Maybe true, I don't know anything about this guy and hadn't even heard of him until this situation arose. I was thinking much more recently than the 60s
