Great to see that CRIME is DOWN in DC since Trump was elected.

MAGA!

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's bag, including $3,000 in cash, is stolen from DC restaurant

Preventing crime in DC is primarily the responsibility of the local DC Metro Police, the police force of the DC government, a government which has perpetually been under the control of Democrats. They are funded by Congress (usually a Democrat Congress). Unless the President could make some sort of executive order, as I understand it, all he can do in the short term is try and lobby Congress to provide DC Metro with the funds, equipment, and manpower to help control local crime in DC. He could try and lobby Congress and the DC government to stiffen penalties for felonies in DC, but there again, the likelihood that the Democrat politicians who run DC would be agreeable to that is not high.

My only question regarding the incident is:

Why is she totin' 'round 3 large in her clutch? That's serious walkin' 'round money.*

*Does she have a bad credit rating? Does she keep "off grid cash?" Did it come from a Go Bag?

I had the same question. Especially walking around DC, one of the worst high crime cities in the US.

I lived there for six months in the late 1960s. The only time I was scared was in a demonstration against the war, and the army pointed a .50 caliber machine gun up in the air way above my head.

I lived in the DC area for 5 years in the late 1990s and I never felt unsafe. I never thought I was about to be mugged. I did avoid areas like Anacostia and parts of Prince Georges county, but downtown among all the tourist sites seemed just fine to me. However, I grew up in Oakland and lived through the 1980s, so maybe that gave me a warped perspective of safety.

However, most of Baltimore gave me the willies.

That's only slightly more money than Kilmar Abrego had on him while he was supposedly looking for legitimate work outside a Home Depot.

Apples to oranges because the Admin's position is that once a person lands on El Salvador's soil we (the US) lose all authority to control what happens to them next. That is a big deal and it provides substantial justification for legal safeguards for people's due process rights. Stated another way: J6 people got slow due process; the admin creates a construct where deportees get zero due process

China's Deepseek AI is like next level theft that the CCP government has designed to essentially put out socialist propaganda. What's worse is a lot of data deepseek is collecting is using Bytedance servers (TIK TOK) and other intermediaries. I timestamped the video to start at the beginning of Deepseek coverage.

With the Trump Administration, the reality is stranger and more damaging than any scenario a staff of the world's best fiction writers could come up with.*

*My initial reaction to Trump's Easter Greeting was that his Truth Social account had to have been hacked. I delayed posting it until I could confirm it's authenticity because even I didn't think he had mentally degraded to that point or that he has that much control over his staff that they couldn't prevent its posting. I surmise that as long as Stephen Miller has his ear, we are going to see more of this bat guano crazy stuff.

"A jury on Tuesday ruled against former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in a rare retrial of her 2017 defamation lawsuit against the New York Times.

Why it matters: The ruling isn't shocking, given that a federal judge and jury already rejected Palin's libel claims against the Times in a 2022 trial.

Zoom in: After nearly two hours of deliberations, a federal jury ruled that the Times was not guilty of libel claims brought against it by Palin for a 2017 editorial that falsely linked her to a 2011 mass shooting.

Throughout this trial and the original 2022 trial, the Times asserted that the inaccurate link made in the editorial was a mistake.
It issued a formal correction of the piece, titled "America's Lethal Politics," two days after it was originally published on June 14.
In a statement, a Times spokesperson said, "We want to thank the jurors for their careful deliberations. The decision reaffirms an important tenet of American law: publishers are not liable for honest mistakes."

Between the lines: Palin and her legal team argued that the Times and its former editorial page editor James Bennet for libel used "actual malice" in publishing the editorial.

There is a very high bar for plaintiffs to meet the actual malice standard, which was established by the landmark 1964 New York Times v. Sullivan case.

The standard protects news outlets from liability under the First Amendment, even when they publish false statements, as long as they did not do so knowingly and recklessly.
Catch up quick: The outcome of Tuesday's trial ends a long legal battle between the Times and Palin."

Per Fox, a poll indicates 75% of Americans and 53% of R's do not approve of Trump running for a 3rd term. I am shaking my head at 25% of Americans and 47% of R's presumably being okay with it.

FWIW, those numbers will change if a lasting peace happens w the Russia-Uiraine war, and the economy improves.

Nobody really cares about all the rest of them.

Your point absolutely is valid for the one guy. He has no legal right to be in the US. He is ineligible for Asylum because he entered illegally. He is here on a Hold order because he convinced a judge a different gang would harm him if returned to El Salvador. That gang has generally been destroyed since then. They could have gone back to court and gotten the Hold order rescinded and he'd lawfully be deported under immigration laws.

Some years ago, there was talk of the possibility of Obama running for a 3rd term. That was OK to talk about because he was a Democrat.

It was more than OK when Roosevelt served THREE TERMS, and then got elected to serve a FOURTH term, which was cut short by his death. Nobody seemed to worry about how many terms a President could have, because FDR was so loved.

The law was changed after that, to limit a President to just two terms. The Democrats milked FDR's time for all they could get. Then one day they woke up and realized that the system could also allow for someone to get control of the Oval Office, and that person might be (horror of all horrors) a Republican.
And voila, the law was changed to permit all future Presidents to serve only two terms.

The reason why Democrats bash Trump, 24/7/365 and onward is the because Trump is the biggest threat they ever saw, politically He would be the worst of all Republicans. He is their biggest threat. They call Trump a Facist, a Nazi, an authoritarian, but in the world of authoritarians , Trump is a wimp compared to FDR. He is the Democrats' greatest fear.

The Democrats are out of power (in terms of office holders in the White House and Congress) but they still own most of them media. They will squash this 3rd term for Trump idea like a bug. I give it 2 weeks or less.

Nah, people are making an example of that guy because the government admitted a mistake. But I think people still care about the process of just throwing people in prison without any proof they committed a crime (aside from being undocumented).

No, the reason Democrats bash Trump is because he is an idiot. You would be delusional if you believed that the Democratic Party owns a majority of the media.
