Preventing crime in DC is primarily the responsibility of the local DC Metro Police, the police force of the DC government, a government which has perpetually been under the control of Democrats. They are funded by Congress (usually a Democrat Congress). Unless the President could make some sort of executive order, as I understand it, all he can do in the short term is try and lobby Congress to provide DC Metro with the funds, equipment, and manpower to help control local crime in DC. He could try and lobby Congress and the DC government to stiffen penalties for felonies in DC, but there again, the likelihood that the Democrat politicians who run DC would be agreeable to that is not high.DiabloWags said:
Great to see that CRIME is DOWN in DC since Trump was elected.
MAGA!
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's bag, including $3,000 in cash, is stolen from DC restaurant
I had the same question. Especially walking around DC, one of the worst high crime cities in the US.bearister said:

Why is she totin' 'round 3 large in her clutch? That's serious walkin' 'round money.
I lived in the DC area for 5 years in the late 1990s and I never felt unsafe. I never thought I was about to be mugged. I did avoid areas like Anacostia and parts of Prince Georges county, but downtown among all the tourist sites seemed just fine to me. However, I grew up in Oakland and lived through the 1980s, so maybe that gave me a warped perspective of safety.SFCityBear said:I had the same question. I lived there for six months in the late 1960s. The only time I was scared was in a demonstration against the war, and the army pointed a .50 caliber machine gun up in the air way above my head.

Where are you getting the idea that Abrego had a lot of money on him?oski003 said:bearister said:

That's only slightly more money than Kilmar Abrego had on him while he was supposedly looking for legitimate work outside a Home Depot.

A Department of Homeland Security document said he was carrying about $1,178 in cash during his arrest.

So you're saying she was on the wrong side of the bars here?
Hundreds of J6 defendants had been charged under a statue that did not apply to their conduct. Misdemeanor trespass was converted into a felony. John Roberts took 3 years to hear the cases of Americans who had been wrongfully convicted. 3 years! But he works overnight for MS-13.

Apples to oranges because the Admin's position is that once a person lands on El Salvador's soil we (the US) lose all authority to control what happens to them next. That is a big deal and it provides substantial justification for legal safeguards for people's due process rights. Stated another way: J6 people got slow due process; the admin creates a construct where deportees get zero due processmovielover said:

Well put.
Let me guess.... one of Bearinsider's Maga Morons still hasn't figure this out yet?
John Roberts sat around and did nothing while U.S. citizens were thrown in solitary confinement without a trial for years, but when a foreign terrorist illegal was deported, Roberts suddenly became very concerned with due process.

According to John Roberts, the president can order the assassination of a U.S. citizen via drone strike without court approval, but he can’t deport the citizen of a foreign nation who entered the U.S. illegally.

Yeah, Trump would have saved himself a lot of controversy if he had just flown these guys to a foreign airport and just said "Good bye!".sycasey said:movielover said:According to John Roberts, the president can order the assassination of a U.S. citizen via drone strike without court approval, but he can’t deport the citizen of a foreign nation who entered the U.S. illegally.

Honestly Trump could have deported most of these guys without it becoming much of a story. The problem is that he sent them directly to prison. To do that I think you actually need to convict someone of a crime.

Some years ago, there was talk of the possibility of Obama running for a 3rd term. That was OK to talk about because he was a Democrat.tequila4kapp said:

Nah, people are making an example of that guy because the government admitted a mistake. But I think people still care about the process of just throwing people in prison without any proof they committed a crime (aside from being undocumented).tequila4kapp said:Nobody really cares about all the rest of them.sycasey said:Honestly Trump could have deported most of these guys without it becoming much of a story. Your point absolutely is valid for the one guy. He has no legal right to be in the US. He is ineligible for Asylum because he entered illegally. He is here on a Hold order because he convinced a judge a different gang would harm him if returned to El Salvador. That gang has generally been destroyed since then. They could have gone back to court and gotten the Hold order rescinded and he'd lawfully be deported under immigration laws.
No, the reason Democrats bash Trump is because he is an idiot. You would be delusional if you believed that the Democratic Party owns a majority of the media.SFCityBear said:Some years ago, there was talk of the possibility of Obama running for a 3rd term. It was more than OK when Roosevelt served THREE TERMS, and then got elected to serve a FOURTH term, which was cut short by his death. Nobody seemed to worry about how many terms a President could have, because FDR was so loved.
The law was changed after that, to limit a President to just two terms. The Democrats milked FDR's time for all they could get. Then one day they woke up and realized that the system could also allow for someone to get control of the Oval Office, and that person might be (horror of all horrors) a Republican.
And voila, the law was changed to permit all future Presidents to serve only two terms.
The reason why Democrats bash Trump, 24/7/365 and onward is the because Trump is the biggest threat they ever saw, politically He would be the worst of all Republicans. He is their biggest threat. They call Trump a Facist, a Nazi, an authoritarian, but in the world of authoritarians , Trump is a wimp compared to FDR. He is the Democrats' greatest fear.
The Democrats are out of power (in terms of office holders in the White House and Congress) but they still own most of them media. They will squash this 3rd term for Trump idea like a bug. I give it 2 weeks or less.
