This is true, RWNJs will go there. OTOH, he might never buy another drink in D.C. after that. If I knew him or worked with him, I'd buy him a beer.
To be honest, AB, this one could cut both ways. Obama recently expressed his desire for cancel culture to chill out a bit, to take into consideration that no one is perfect. In this instance, this is a guy who is part of a mass once-in-a-lifetime (for many) celebration after a game 7 win and lots of mass drinking. His opinions are presumably based on T's actions and not the color of his skin (Astros orange). Give this hero a pass.

How late was BUIDC up last night? Were you around other fans? Was there dancing in the streets? Just remembering how SF was in 2010.

Tip: don't have your car parked anywhere along the parade route -- depending on the setup, people may think to stand on your car to get a better view.

Replying on behalf of BUIDC, who has asked that I post this as his account is in a certain state.

B.A,

I'm basically asleep as I type, so.

*BUIDC hasn't slept yet

*With about 30 other fans. Because the Nats' bullpen has sucked all year, we knew 3-2 wasn't going to do it.
,,,,hell, 6-2 was iffy. Kinda like CAL under Sonny.

*Dancing all over the DMV. Biggest party was thrown by the Deep State at Ben's chili bowl on U Street

*I hear you about parking. Thing is whenever anything is happening along the Constitution Ave. parade route, (from Rolling Thunder to a Lebanese bake sale ) traffic is blocked off for blocks in every direction. METRO would mean risk and life and limbI'm walking.

At risk of getting "war on Xmas" type responses, why do we use terms like "So help me God" as part of swearing in? They are not becoming Bishops, they are swearing to serve in government and defend the office and Constitution. Is that not the higher authority, and the people themselves, to whom they are accountable? Or are they supposed to only abide by their oath for fear that God will punish them?

Separation of Church and State aside (which is equally good reason for not doing this), this seems to be totally illogical and antithetical to the purpose of the swearing in. It in fact seems to justify the breaking or diminishing of the laws of man, or the laws of the land to which they are being sworn to serve, and instead ascribing their REAL responsibility to serving the laws of God (whose God, which faith?).

How about instead they do the job of serving the people and protecting the Constitution rather than serving religion, self-interest, money, or party over country, and swear to resign office if they violate this oath?

Of all the things we've got on the docket, this is not one I'm going to lose sleep over.

Good song.
I recall listening to KFOG the moment they announced Marvin had been shot by his father. They did a little tribute in mourning to him and were shocked and saddened. It wasn't treated lightly.

"Nightshift" is a 1985 song by the Commodores and the title track from their eleventh album of the same name. The song was written by lead singer Walter Orange in collaboration with Dennis Lambert and Franne Golde, as a loving tribute to soul/R&B singers Jackie Wilson and Marvin Gaye, both of whom died in 1984. The single was released on January 31, 1985 in the United States.

Holy S, now that's Breaking News!
Super rare for Orinda!

Orinda police chief confirmed that the shooting took place at a short-term rental. (AirBnB at Knickerbocker and Lucille Way) The East Bay Times reports that a flyer had gone out advertising an Airbnb mansion Halloween party. The party was scheduled to start at 10 p.m. and people were asked to BYOB and BYOW, the report said. People were reportedly told to directly message the host to find the party. There were at least 100 people at the party when authorities arrived.

I wonder if any kids are going to be involved, or if the partygoers were from another town.
Or perhaps both. I could see the rental being an outsider with preppies showing up and it being like "The Outsiders".
Total speculation!
I only ever knew one person who lived in the area by the freeway.

I think AOC's statement is very ill advised as I think when you are making a scientific claim you should have more evidence to back it up. With so many people denying even the most rock solid science on the subject and looking for any ammunition, jumping to that conclusion is unwise.

Wildfires are the natural state of things in California. We have had large ones almost every year of my life. I think there are two major issues leading to a perception of the state burning - 1 national cable news reporting stories to fill time that didn't used to be national stories and 2. People moving more and more into areas that were not populated before. For instance. We aren't being overrun by mountain lions, we are moving to them.

That said, absolutely everything that opinion piece said about government failure causing the fire situation is nonsense and demonstrates complete and utter ignorance of the situation in California and how water management works. These places are naturally dry and snow pack has nothing to do with anything. The writer didn't care one bit about any accuracy. Just wanted to right something that sounded good to people who want to politically blame California.

Frankly I'm getting sick of conservative areas asking for money for god fearing people when they have disasters and turning around and saying California brings things on themselves. This isn't new. It happened with Loma Prieta, the East Bay Hills Fire, and the rash of fires in LA in the early 90's.

There is evidence that climate change is making the fire season longer and more destructive, by creating hotter and drier summers (therefore drier vegetation) and also delaying the first winter rains that typically signal the end of fire season.

So I don't think AOC is entirely wrong here, though there is more than one factor.

I agree with the second part of what you wrote, but not the first. There, you said:

* We've had large fires every year of your life. Sure, but the fires are way bigger and more frequent now. Look up a list of CA's biggest fires and the last decade dominates the list, big time! You could say it's because there are more people causing more fires in spaces where the brush is of the same dryness. What percentage of these fires ate man-made?

*AOC's comment was unwise? All she said was this:

"This is what climate change looks like" Ms. Ocasio-Cortez tweeted with the hashtag "#GreenNewDeal".

That's not a far stretch, at all, IMHO. In his film, An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore predicted bigger fires in the west and harsher hurricanes in the southeast and more tornadoes in the Midwest. It sure looks like he was right. And I thank him tremendously for that film which woke many people up.

* "With so many people denying even the most rock solid science on the subject"...

Are you giving credence to the nonbelievers? Or are you saying that "politically" it's unwise to make AOC's claim without backing up evidence?

The truth is, more and more scientists agree with Gore's posit all the time. Meanwhile the "many" people who deny global warming are pretty much ignorant and turning away from the mountain of evidence that the scientists have already presented.

I put the deniers into 3 camps:
1) vested interest: oil, coals, etc jobs or investments. Developer in Florida. Resident in New Orleans. Money.
2) emotionally wish to return to a time when such weighty issues didn't exist. Pleasantville.
3) ignorance. Education.

In all 3 cases, presenting more "evidence" isn't likely to change many of these people's minds. And you certainly can't present that evidence in 140 characters.

PS: AOC wasn't making a scientific claim. She was making a political one.

I'm saying you can argue that the frequency of wildfires in California is higher due to climate change. The frequency is already high without climate change and has always been. It is questionable to point to one fire and say it is caused by climate change. That is impossible to substantiate. When it comes to climate change there is so much substantiated evidence of its impact. You have an opposition ready to pounce on every unsubstantiated claim to try and undercut all the substantiated ones.

There is lots of scientifically backed evidence for climate change. Non scientists pointing at every natural disaster and saying "climate change" is not accurate or helpful.

As for the "not changing minds" obviously there are a lot of people's whose minds can't be changed. There are people who can be convinced and there are people that can be turned against you. If presenting evidence isn't going to work, I don't think flippant "political" statements are either. Yes, Often scientists fail to boil down conclusions to simple to understand language, but that doesn't make statements like this any more helpful.

So, I'm standing at the corner of 14th and Constitution maybe 1/3 mile or so from the staging area.
It's about 3:15...it's getting toward the end. Most of us have been out there for 2+ hours. Not only me but fans around me have kindna lost track of which players are left to pass by. There's a sound like "oooooo" coming from the staging area. Of course my first thought is that the Orange Guy had the **** to show up. As the bus/track whatever came closer , it became clear that the sound was "Dooooo"..really loud. Doo goes by holding a beer in his right hand and his lightsaber in his left.
