Trump did everything he could to gut the EPA and reduce regulation on private rail carriers. He specifically rolled back an Obama era rule on brakes designed to prevent derailments.

The rule that Trump repealed did not apply to this train although you and Buttigieg can certainly mislead folks into thinking it did. Biden had plenty of time to reinstate the rule and expand it to include this particular circumstance. He did not. He is not at fault for anything but the misinformation campaign his administration wages to blame others for bad things.

Saw some footage today that clearly shows where the failure that led to the Norfolk Southern train disaster.

A video recorded an hour before the derailment shows fire coming out from the trucks under the car; the whole underside looked like it was ablaze. From the dawn of railroads. the bearing surface between the axles and the frame of the trucks attached to the railroad car could catch fire leading to a wreck.
20, 50 years ago, on every 20 or thirty miles of track mainline railroads would install 'hotbox' detectors to discover such fires before they caused a wreck. The detector would broadcast a report telling the engineer and dispatcher that there was a hotbox 'X' axles back from the first axle of the train; after the train passed.

Until this wreck I didn't know that hotbox detectors had been removed. If they were still in use, that train would probably have set off 3 or more detectors before the eventual wreck and the train could have been safely stopped. I'll try and find out why they were removed.
