That's good to know.
Sounds reasonable at first blush.
You post about the issue A LOT and it's something I NEVER think about so I wondered why you do.
I should say… my freshman year roommate lives in the LA basin and I chatted briefly on FB with him a couple years ago. He said something about "my daughter " and I said, "wait, I thought you had a son". He responded, "she's transitioning".
So, I'll have to get back in touch at some point and inquire about it all. In the meantime, since I know NOTHING of it, I will trust John and his ex-wife to have guided his child with wisdom and compassion and an ethical responsibility.
The child was probably 14 at the
time (???).
I have had three acquaintances / work colleagues tell me their children (all girls) believe they are trans the past 3-4 months.
I definitely believe social media plays a huge role, and possibly lockdowns (isolation). Our society is also now hyper-focused on attention, 'look at me' behavior.
OR
MAYBE…For all of your prior existence there has been a shunning of people who were "different ", though they were always out there, struggling.
AND
MAYBE…Since you grew up where that was the norm, you grew comfortable with it and think it's right and proper.
SO…Now that things are changing, YOU think it's all wrong. But that's only from your perspective, not from the perspective of those who live the experience.
Rather than apply your logic from your perspective, which really has NOTHING to do with the issue, WHY NOT just let those affected figure it out for themselves with their families?
THAT SAIDI can agree with you that we should be concerned with how societal changes in values impacts us. For instance, the liberalization and common acceptance of drug use (Tim Leary envisioned "expanding the mind" a good thing) has been a massive dump on millions and millions of human lives! And no doubt the new online identity age with accompanying loss of privacy and ability to learn/mistake/try-again will have its drawbacks (why this
anonymous board is a plus!).
I am simply not focused on the "trans" issue. It's a minor minor player in what's going on in our world.
You've made your rants, and I appreciate your rational post above.
I'd be cool to read fewer posts which insult and demonize folks who are merely seeking to be mentally better tomorrow than they are today.
They aren't bothering any of us, are they?
Really?
I mean, does any of this touch you, other than you're just sitting in your room looking out the window and don't like the
bright pink cars driving by?
Peace.
