There you go again. - RR

tequila4kapp - it's not so straightforward. Trump 1.0, the DC newbie, asked most department heads to cut 10%. His instincts were to cut, that gov't was bloated and inefficient.

From his first days, The entrenched Swamp leaked his calls, likely bugged the WH, Comey and others were setting him up in an unprecedented string of attacks, and he had relied on others to suggest top picks. He cut regulations massively, and taxes, but was sidetracked by Paul Ryan, and unprecedented FBI / DOJ attacks.

Spending jumped bc of the Plandemic. Trump 2.0 is closer to his true beliefs. RR also wasn't confronted with a MIC that had started / entered multiple Forever Wars which had cost us over $16 Trillion in debt in 24 years.

Russia helped us in WWII, has rich resources, and is a more or less stable Christian country. It ain't 1980. Saintly RR was conned by Tip O'Neil, and by 1989, federal spending was up 69 percent from 1981. Ronnie also didn't protect our border, was lied to about there being one million illegal immigrants needing Amnesty (3.5 Million signed up), and was himself Bidenesque at times his last 1-2 years.

Reagan was great, but President Trump is attempting something quite historic.

There is absolutely nothing in the traditional Reagan Republican party that involves isolationism, cozy'ing up to Russia, tariffs, economic populism, massive deficit spending (Trump 1st term), etc, etc etc. Trump has transformed the Republican party to be the exact opposite of what it was in all those areas; in so many ways Trump is a 1940s-1960's Democrat and that is why he confounds them, even though he is personally so flawed.

Reagan didn't know about the forever wars that was going to start under Bush.

Russia is nothing. Our main nation threat is the country controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.

Reagan wasn't good in Central America, setting up death squads and dirty wars in El Salvador, Nicaragua. These were the precursors to gangs like MS13.

He was however fairly decent in the mideast, pulling out from Lebanon and keeping a lid over Israeli influence on US policy.

China doesn't have anywhere near the influence over US policy that Israel has, not even close. Israel has been the main driver for forever war. China is an economic rival, but even there it's not a straight up zero sum game between us and them. Competition is good, the industrial and economic landscape having become too consolidated and almost monopolistic.

The only one that can promote Trump's lying bullsh@it without consequence is Trump:

"The conservative news outlet Newsmax agreed to pay the voting equipment company Smartmatic $40m last year as part of a settlement in a defamation suit over Newsmax's decision to broadcast false claims about the 2020 election, a new filing revealed."

it feels very circa 2000(?) with Matt Gaetz leading the shut down revolt but having no alternative, just in reverse since Schumer caved. It sucks to be the party not in power.

Yes, though in this case it's more than that. I think the whole Biden saga made the base feel like they were lied to and misled, because . . . they were.

Yup. And it's not like the MAGA people didn't try to warn us about "the whole Biden saga". But it was like the story about the boy who cried wolf: "Climate change is a hoax... the COVID vaccine has killed more people than COVID... January 6th was a peaceful protest and... oh yeah, Biden's no longer fit to be President."

I kinda think it's stupid that the Presidential pardon power is so broad and wouldn't mind it being curtailed, but that said . . . I don't think this is how it works.

"Joe Biden did not sign them but, more importantly, he did not know anything about them! The necessary Pardoning Documents were not explained to, or approved by, Biden. He knew nothing about them, and the people that did may have committed a crime," Trump added.

Trump was asked whether executive orders and pardons signed by Biden via an autopen are void.

"I think so. It's not my decision. That would be up to a court," Trump replied.
---

Put it in the speculation column for now but it was weird how all those pardons came down right at the last minute. There are layers of this that are potentially really troubling.

Lots of presidents do lots of pardons right at the end of their term. That part is not weird.

That is more reason to strike in Yemen - to avoid having to go to war with Iran. If we weaken their proxies, it will encourage them to come to the table.

We are striking Yemen because they are blocking maritime traffic through the Bab al-Mandab Strait. And the reason they are blocking traffic is because Israel is carpet-bombing and deliberately starving millions of Palestinians.

Trump would rather risk a major regional conflagration that could sink the world economy and kill tens of thousands instead of asking Bibi to respect the cease fire he signed.

"Turn off Fox News for one secondThe Houthis stopped attacking ships in the Red Sea -- like they said they would -- after Israel agreed to a ceasefire to end the Gaza genocide

When Israel started a 100 percent humanitarian blockade on Gaza, the Houthis said 'F that,' and started in again.

Trump is such a coward that he'd rather bomb Yemenis than ask his owner (Netanyahu) to let some flour into the enclave"

Yes, Israel just acted out of the blue, on its own, as first actor. There is no other party involved - say, a warring entity that refused multiple (all) cease fire options which Israel agreed to and refuses to return Israel's hostages.
