You're in good company.
Dwight Eisenhower didn't like the idea either.

When asked if the United States should have a military parade to "show off its might," President Dwight Eisenhower said, "Absolutely not. We are the pre-eminent power on Earth. For us to try and imitate what the Soviets are doing in Red Square would make us look weak."

6-12 months ago, some voters were looking back at Trump's first term almost with a sense of nostalgia, but now they're starting to remember what it was really like and why they didn't vote for him in 2020.

These are your "low information" voters.

On the other hand, how much information does a voter need to cast a vote for anyone but Biden, Harris or Walz?

And looking at the bench, which I guess is Harris, Walz, AOC, and Crockett, the future does not look much brighter so far for their political party.

And the party needs coherent, positive message, with some ideas, some promises. Even with low information voters, a party needs more than a pretty face and Trump-hate, don't they?

It's very normal for a party to wait for someone to emerge right after a big electoral loss. No one thought Obama would win in 2005. Same for Trump in 2013, Clinton in 1989, etc.

But someone does emerge eventually.

I'd run, but I've been described as "less than a pretty face".

For Okaydo, all things Hollywood:

Tim Chalomet and Kylie Jenner make it official on "a" red carpet event:

No thank you.
I prefer not to be with people who have dated half the NBA.
Bad career move. Bad life move.

Er uh, maybe I'm confusing her with her sisters. Whatever. Same thing applies. Dirty by proximity.

Newsom is already too well-known as a potential candidate. I suspect the next nominee will be someone relatively unexpected (like Obama or Clinton).

It won't matter. Right now R's are winning on the issues, though people are pissed about the execution of the policy administration. D's have no issues other that Trump Is Evil. It is fascinating to me that after all these years Ds - the party, institution - cannot figure this out.

You might want to review your political history a bit.

After the Trade Acts of McKinley and Herbert Hoover, the Republicans were voted out of office for years.
In fact, after Smoot-Hawley the GOP didn't regain control of the House until 1947 and the Senate until 1945.

This time around, the average American household will see their expenses rise by $3,700
You think that's gonna be Winning???

Want to buy a FORD Mach-E for $50,000?
Tack on another $12,000 in tariffs.

How is that Winning?

July 9th will be here before we know it.

First, let's level set on something important - we are talking about the next Presidential election in 3.5 years.

Take the issues:
- Border control / illegal immigration: this administration is winning on this issue hands down.
- Economy: the punitive tariffs won't exist by the next election. Every other country needs us and our buying power more than we need them, including China. They will negotiate trade deals and those terms will be more favorable to the US. This will result in strong economic performance. And that aside, unemployment is steady, wages are up, job growth has beat expectations that past two months, jobs are being created in the private sector, etc. etc. etc. Today's economy is not the loser bad economy some would have us believe; it is only going to get better.
- National Security: The wars in Ukraine and Gaza will be over, very very likely with the fingerprints of Trump on the peace deals. Iran will be de-nuclearized. We will not be at war anywhere.
- Culture. Sorry guys, trans rights is a losing political issue and the D party continues to embrace it. R's are succeeding at changing the narrative on this one away from affirmative rights for one group (trans) and toward protecting women's rights. Easy W for Rs.

Importantly, what is the D policy solution to each of the areas listed above? Aside from Tran's rights they do not have anything aside from disagreeing with Trump and complaining about process stuff (on which they are correct but it doesn't matter to Joe 6 Pack voters).

There are two fundamental truths about politics: 1) the more personally likeable and dynamic guy wins; and 2) people want something to vote for. Right now D's only hope is that no R is waiting in the wings that fulfills #1.

I am rooting for this country to succeed, not to fail, so I hope you are right about the issues you bring up. That said, the economy is cyclical and it's been a while since we had a recession. Let's see how this tariff thing (or threats of tariffs) works out. I am not optimistic. Regarding national security, it's whack-a-mole: who knows what's going to pop up?

We can check back in two years. If it turns out you called it, hey, great.

I just think you are making big assumptions about what will be at the top of voters' minds in four years and IMO no one should be too confident about that.

For example, at one point the conventional wisdom was "sorry, gay marriage is a losing political issue" and that was that (actually several people on this site said that to me circa 2006). Then not very many years later it became the law of the land. You don't know how things will evolve. A lot of public opinion is thermostatic: reacting to whatever the people in charge are doing. Who knows where the second Trump term will drive things?

I am especially confused as to why anyone would assume that Trump is just going to drop his tariffs. Seems like almost all available evidence suggests that he just likes tariffs.

I think you need to have a better understanding of how the economy works.
And how tariffs work. And how significant trade deals (that are material) just don't happen overnight.

Here, let me help you with my Boss in a previous life back in NYC at age 28.
I was his floor broker on the COMEX in the Gold pit.

The UK isn't large enough of a trading partner to really move the needle for our economy.
You are terribly uninformed or gullible or a combo of both.

Even Trump's own Commerce Secretary Lutnick has admitted that we have "balanced trade with the UK".
In fact, by some measures, the UK actually has a small trade surplus.

This is more of a "symbolic" than economic move.
