How Ken Burns Turned The American Revolution Into Woke Propaganda

Personally, I didn't feel like The American Revolution was too "wokey". I mean, no more than the rest of Burns' series are. Pretty easy to make the case that his work is "balanced". I certainly didn't feel like it was designed to make people hate America.

This is a great country. But like just about any country, we have had some bad moments. Instead of whitewashing over them, we can study and learn from them. Plenty of room to become even greater.

The biggest problem with The American Revolution was that it was a bit of a snooze fest. I fell asleep while watching it on two different evenings. Not sure what percentage of the whole thing I saw; I think I gave up, at some point. It sort of felt like assigned homework. He should have included a few strategically placed car chases in there, to liven things up.

It was sneaky woke. A bunch of stuff went right passed me on first watch but upon being alerted to stuff you then realize the soft but persistent bias.

Tough afternoon. Stopped in Novato at a place I've seen before offering $2 Taco Tuesday special - Mi Pueblo. Standard fair, but the colorful interior, Christmas lights, whimsical Latin artwork, and Christmas music is wonderful. A great mixture, American classics, Gramma Got Runover, Rudolph, and some numbers I've never heard before. I'll be back ...

Their seafood soup looks interesting, looks like a CalMex version of Duarte's cioppino in Pesacdero:

He really should stick to restaurant reviews.
He's much better doing that.

Although there are better Mexican places in that San Rafael/Novato corridor.

Very nice! Looks a lot like my first bike, '78 80cc Fantic Motor, was a bit underpowered as that engine was put on their 125cc frame right after new regulations pushed the 125cc limit up to 18 year olds, but was a good beginner bike, had some pep at high rpms, very well suspended with twin Marzocchi shocks.

Does that Bultaco have some sentimental value, because the Japanese 1980s MX bikes really were better and much easier to find and maintain in CA...

Correct.
My Bultaco was made in Spain.

In answer to your question, the Bultaco pictured above doesn't have any personal sentimental experience.
I've just always loved the way that they looked when I was growing up in the early 70's.
So I bought one from a guy in NJ, had it shipped out, to put it in my Man Cave.

In 1977, I was riding a Suzuki RM125 and my buddy had a Suzuki RM370.
His 370 was so easy to ride FAST!

But of course, Yakima Washington's Jim Pomeroy was the first AMERICAN to win an overall victory in an FIM Motocross World Championship Grand Prix as an unknown privateer at the 1973 Spanish GP in the 250 class aboard a BULTACO.

#20 heading into the first turn.

What it shows is that there is topic de jour but eventually ennui sets in, people find something new to get crazy about and then that blows up. Some stuff just slowly dies….
The missing chart would be the total area under the curves of each topic

Looking at the area under the curves, it appears Inflation was the top Google trend for 2025 (consistent interest throughout the year) followed by K-pop Demon Hunters and Labubu (and not Lafufu).

Yup.
He's riding the Husqvarna 400 Cross in that photo from 1971.

I will never forget it.
I was 12 at the time.

This was when there was a changeover in the late 60's from formerly dominant heavier 4-stroke motorcycles like Triumph and into the wonderful world of 2-stroke Castrol oil burning (mixed with gas at 20:1) lighter off-road racing bikes like this sexy Swedish Husky.

I had a Husqvarna / Hodaka / Suzuki dealer about a half-mile from where I grew up.
Spent an awful lot of time in that shop sitting on bikes and grabbing the latest brochures.

I'm surprised the owner never kicked us out.
We were there almost every other day after hitting the local 7/11.

lol

What is the Tuesday Taco Special? What do you get? I'll try it next time I'm in Novato.

What could equal Tijuana Taco on Telegraph Ave in the late 1960s? Three tacos and a large Coke for a buck. Tacos were small, but delicious. A co-worker and I used to drive there from the Seawater Conversion Lab at Cal's Richmond Field Station for lunch every weekday to look at the girls and have some fine cheap tacos. One day, we got stuck inside Tijuana Taco when a People's Park Riot broke out with protestors throwing rocks at cops, and the street filled with tear gas. The staff stuffed towels under the door to keep the tear gas out, so we could enjoy our lunch. We had a lot more than 3 tacos that day. When the smoke cleared, we went back to work, and arrived at 5, just in time to quit work for the day. The boss was very angry. Said we had no right to go all the way from Richmond to Telegraph Avenue for lunch.
