That's a Husqvarna from Sweden Steve is riding.

Yup.
He's riding the Husqvarna 400 Cross in that photo from 1971.

I will never forget it.
I was 12 at the time.

This was when there was a changeover in the late 60's from formerly dominant heavier 4-stroke motorcycles like Triumph and into the wonderful world of 2-stroke Castrol oil burning (mixed with gas at 20:1) lighter off-road racing bikes like this sexy Swedish Husky.

I had a Husqvarna / Hodaka / Suzuki dealer about a half-mile from where I grew up.
Spent an awful lot of time in that shop sitting on bikes and grabbing the latest brochures.

I'm surprised the owner never kicked us out.
We were there almost every other day after hitting the local 7/11.

lol

Nice.

The late 70s/early 80s Huskies were peak vintage MX beauts with that brushed metal tank.

Tough afternoon. Stopped in Novato at a place I've seen before offering $2 Taco Tuesday special - Mi Pueblo. Standard fair, but the colorful interior, Christmas lights, whimsical Latin artwork, and Christmas music is wonderful. A great mixture, American classics, Gramma Got Runover, Rudolph, and some numbers I've never heard before. I'll be back ...

What is the Tuesday Taco Special? What do you get? I'll try it next time I'm in Novato.

What could equal Tijuana Taco on Telegraph Ave in the late 1960s? Three tacos and a large Coke for a buck. Tacos were small, but delicious... ...p Said we had no right to go all the way from Richmond to Telegraph Avenue for lunch.

$2 tacos, 4 or 5 options - asada, carnitas, a beef number, chorizo - and chips (free). It was the ambiance, colorful lights, and an unexpected kindness. The Christmas music selection was wonderful.

Quiote restaurant on Kentucky Street in Petaluma offers fancier and solid North Bay faire, but for me the best gourmet Mexican restaurant (not that I've tried many in that tier) is still in Oakland's Diamond District.

Feliz Ano.

No.
Don't get over to the North Bay much.
Need to hit Tomales Bay soon though.

Ernie's Tin Bar

Just go. So many things to enjoy, been there over a dozen times. Weekday worker vibe of locals, contractors, handyman, etc., possibly different than weekend tourists.

Boutique local beers and $1.75 cans.
Awesome craftsman beer selection.
No politics talk.
(Texting allowed.)
Cozy narrow interior attached to a defunct 90-year-old garage.
Small fireplace.
Large covered patio.
Unique bands. (I haven't enjoyed as of yet.)

The intersection in the country can be dangerous. Beware.

Lou's Luncheonette in Sonoma a solid classic diner, only been once. Had a fantastic spicy chicken sammie. Outdoor picnic tables, goats, memorabilia, craft beers?

Well, thx for that wish. I'd like it to be true, but no, it will end with me some day, too.

Perhaps you'd like to start an Official Concordtom Deathwatch thread.

I genuinely appreciate the review.

Interestingly enough, my GF and I spent NYE in Petaluma this same time last year following one of our favorite tribute bands. Fleetwood Mask.

Mass immigration and open borders in W. Europe is its own problem, should not be conflated with post-9/11 Clash of civilization dogma that has fed $8 trillion endless wars for Israel.

Nations of immigrants like the US and Canada are just better at integrating new populations. It's how these countries work. Europe is the old world and has a different mentality that makes it harder for them. They are caught between a general socially liberal desire to help the less fortunate (hence accepting refugees, etc.) and the more ingrained sense that foreigners cannot ever be "real" citizens, blood and soil, etc.

(I also know that the latter idea has risen in popularity in America lately, but the feeling is not as strong as it can get in the European countries.)

That is very much true. However, while Canada, the US or Australia have a greater capacity to absorb and assimilate immigrants than old world countries in Europe, there is still a limit to that capacity. In Canada for instance you have cities where the majority are newcomers from the same country (India), and the number of immigrants has been incredibly high, around 3% of the entire population in new arrivals annually, mostly unskilled labor, far exceeding the capacity of that country to absorb them.

The problem is even worse in W Europe where the numbers are similarly high but their economic and social capacity to absorb that high flow is much more limited.

It's pretty cool.

Have you ever looked into your ancestors' lives? Do you know if your great great grandparents were slave owners? Have you reconciled to how the advantages they enjoyed trickled down to you, and how the disadvantages their enslaved people trickled down to their descendants today?

I'm not saying I agree with this SF reparations bit - I don't - but one has to be an incredibly daft crotch to make the preceding post!

Considering half my family didn't arrive until right before WWII kicked off as Germans who lived in Russia, I'm guessing they didn't have slaves. The other half were Germans/English and later native american that arrived in the 1800s I still have the tin type family photo, they were poor living in Oklahoma working the oil fields. I know where my family came from and can speak confidently enough we had nothing to do with slavery, like most americans. Only 1.6% of Americans owned a slave when it was legal.

I like your answer in part because it is similar to mine...my paternal g/father didn't immigrate hear until the 1930s, my maternal g/mother was born and raised on the Cherokee reservation, and they both married in a way that pretty much means slave ownership didn't happen. (And I would add for myself...even if one of my ancestors did own a slave, I feel zero guilt, duty or obligation for what some person I never knew did 200 year ago. That isn't my responsibility).

It may be helpful context to the general discussion to note that in 1860 only 1-2% of Americans owned a slave.

Kind of cool crossover, mine was a great great great grandma who was Cherokee on my dads side. I don't believe they lived on the rez though, I think they lived in Salina, OK.

Ummmmm..... I have no idea why you are talking about slavery and slave ownership.
It has nothing to do with the reparations legislation signed into law by the Mayor of San Francisco.

Do you not understand what "redlining" is?

I would suggest you actually read the legislation authored by Supervisor Shamann Walton:
