THE COLLAPSE OF PORTLAND, OR

1. Nike Community Factory Store (operated ~40 years since 1984): Closed permanently after 276 shoplifting reports in one year. Nike cited deteriorating public safety and sent a letter to the mayor.

2. Walmart (both Portland locations): Closed, with 580 employees laid off.

3. Target (three stores): Explicitly cited organized retail crime and shoplifting.

4. REI (Pearl District): Closed citing high break-ins/theft (highest rate in two decades); spent over $800k on extra security in 2022, including incidents like a vehicle rammed through doors.

5. U.S. Bank (U.S. Bancorp Tower): Not renewing long-term lease. Building sold in July 2025 for $45M (down from $372M in 2015, ~88% value drop).

6. Wells Fargo: Announced plans to exit Portland.

7. Starbucks: Closed at least 56 locations in September 2025 alone.

8. Nordstrom Rack (Downtown) and CVS Pharmacy (SW Broadway): Closed, with shoplifting cited as a factor at CVS.

Malls and major centers:

9. Pioneer Place Mall: Down from ~100 stores to about 20 (called a "dead mall").

10. Lloyd Center Mall: 90% vacant, confirmed for full demolition.

11. PacWest Center: Sold Oct 2025 for $55.7M (down from $170M in 2016, ~67% drop).

12. Montgomery Park: Sold Aug 2024 for $33M (down from $255M in 2019, ~87% drop).

"Multiple retailers publicly or privately cited retail theft, organized crime, break-ins, and safety concerns as key factors in closures. Other businesses and smaller ones have also closed or raised alarms about crime and lack of enforcement.

"Context and caveats: Crime stats in Portland have fluctuatedsome categories (e.g., certain thefts, homicides) dropped from peak pandemic-era highs with task forces and added policing, but property crime, retail theft, and perceptions of safety remain major issues for businesses and residents.

"Many closures cite a combination of theft losses, staffing/safety risks, declining foot traffic, and economic factors."

From memory, most or all of those store closures happened or were announced a few years ago. There is still a cumulative effect but it isn't quite as depicted in that FB post. Oregon had a ballot measure pass which legalized small amounts of nearly every drug. That coincided with the defund the police/no bail phase. The result was as most would predict - big upswing in vandalism, petty theft, etc. with no real legal impact to the criminals. Portland endured a very bad cycle of increased crime, drug use and homelessness. That law was reversed maybe last year. My perception is that things are improving. The last time we went into downtown Portland we were pleasantly surprised to see signs that it was returning to the clean, vibrant, fun place we used to know.

The 2nd part of the list is 2 office building complexes (I think) right downtown, an underground mall beneath an office building right downtown and an older mall just outside downtown. Portland's downtown office scene has been decimated and never really recovered from the Covid + crime/drug stuff. EG, I have not worked one day in the office (across the street from Pioneer Place) in like 6 years.

Good to hear on-the-ground reports. I mix up Seattle and Portland; it may be Seattle that still has radical politicians and crazy public policy. But similiar radical Progressive policies have devastated the West Coast, including Vancouver. (HI tech helped.)

I was in Vancouver around 1998 and it was amazing, pristine, cosmopolitan. Now I read stories of Asian triad drug cartels, casinos laundering drug money, widespread street drug use, bribed inspectors, CCP officials buying up real estate, and everyday young Canadians priced out of the market. Now Green and Trudeau policies have clobbered industry, and Alberta may exit the union? It doesn't sound promising. Their Woke academia even chased away Dr. Jordan Peterson.

Recently I think Spencer Pratt said Proposition 47 was only passed bc they dressed it up as the "Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act". Citizens partly repealed it with Proposition 36, but Newsom hasn't funded it, not even the lowball $400 million estimate.

Not sure why the Dems can't articulate this issue honestly. There are two questions to be answered:

1. Do you believe that someone can be "transgender"?

2. If so, do you believe that a transgender person should be referred to as a member of the gender they believe they are?

So, can a man get pregnant? Conceivably (no pun intended), if they are a trans man and you believe that counts as being a man, the answer is yes.

Opinions will vary on questions 1 and 2 above, I get it. What disappoints me is when my fellow folks-on-the-left skirt around the issue instead of addressing it honestly. Who do they think they are, Kamala Harris?

The ICE facility has been attacked (and people and journalists are attacked as well) almost daily and nobody is going to jail, the Portland police and DA is doing nothing to the Antifa black bloc. They are not doing what a functional city should do, they are just hiding their warts better.

My grandparents lived on SE Taylor Street for 50+ years.
Had many fond memories playing in Burnside Park as a kid. Glad to hear the City is bouncing back from the Covid period.

Thank you for your honest boots on the ground report. It sure beats the Left Coast bashing that we see here on a daily basis that mimics the NY Post.

Gender dysphoria is real, yet we've seen an EXPLOSION of new cases, many apparently self diagnosed. Why the explosion between 2010 - 2020, especially among young girls? Explanations include:

- social media
- peer group contagion (like bulimia)
- autism correlation
- diagnosis / coaching by parents, online 'friends', teachers

The mental and physical meat grinder we're putting insecure, confused children and teenagers into is tragic. But numerous research bodies have cited a lack of solid research data used to promote often barbaric practices, especially when some young people will grow out of it, or become healthy, functioning lesbian and gay adults, not lifelong science experiments.

So, can a man get pregnant?

No.

The order speeds up the normal 32-day timeline and puts the State of Louisiana on notice their current districts are not constitutional.

A U.S. Secret Service officer was arrested for indecent exposure in Miami while off-duty.

The officer had finished working on a security assignment for Trump's appearance Sunday at a golf tournament.

Spillman has been placed on administrative leave.
The U.S. Secret Service insignia is pictured on a wall at the Secret Service headquarters in Washington.

I don't entirely disagree with you. I think it's a lot more complicated than the woke left or the far right want to make it.

What the "EXPLOSION" of new cases tells me is...

- some people now feel more comfortable expressing their true selves
- some people who are biologically one sex but have traits that are classically identified as those of the other sex are being "encouraged" to believe they are "transgender"

Anyway, can a man get pregnant? Yes, if you believe a transgender man is a man. Otherwise, no.

Apparently some group of individuals have created Tik Tok videos to lead children down a path - with positive affirmations, etc - towards gender confusion and / or gender dysphoria.

Gender dysphoria is pretty rare, and so when Hollywood stars have two or many children who are "trans", that's mathematically impossible - unless an adult and / or their environment are leading them that direction.

I can't speak for anyone else's situation, but it is possible there's a genetic predisposition that would be passed to both kids.

Can't be genetic, it is cultural, as this psychological condition is shared by a high number of celebrities.

It is also cultural for sure, I just can't rule out that there isn't also a genetic component that makes some people predisposed.

Canadian PM dissing President Trump the past few months, not realizing we hold leverage, USMCA coming to an end... so Carney amps up backbiting, whining to Europe, pretending USMCA will stay in place. Mexico aligns w the USA, Canada doesn't. Logical fallout?

Electrek "Honda is shelving its massive C$15 billion ($11 billion) EV and battery manufacturing hub in Ontario, Canada, according to a new report from Nikkei. The move escalates what was initially framed as a temporary pause into what increasingly looks like an indefinite retreat."

Honda has a heavy presence here.

The Canadian government has strict controls in place to limit information to the Canadian people, so many have no context.

How sad, just like MAID (assisted suicide).

Meanwhile, they hitch their wagon to China, which will also negatively impact their car industry. And energy-abundant Alberta has a separatist movement.

Cultural Marxism in Canada? Gas is $1.95/L = $7.31 US gallon.
