Landowner in Oakland hills who cut down 38 trees without permits fined $915,000.00

https://oaklandside.org/2026/05/05/trees-illegally-cut-fine-oakland/

I knew that lumber costs were going up, but I didn't know it was that high.

THANKS PRESIDENT TRUMP!

The size of this fine has nothing to do with the cost of lumber.

According to article, the trees on the property which might had the highest valuation was the Coast Live Oak, which City staff may have evaluated at $95,000. This species of tree has very little or no value as timber, from which to produce lumber. A mature tree of this kind has value only in preventing some erosion and of course, aesthetic value, which is very subjective. The maple might have some value for timber for furniture, but it is not likely to approach the $95,000 for the oak. The cost to remove any tree is expensive, and I would guess the cost to remove any of the mature oak trees would be $50,000-$100,000.

The fine is shocking, perhaps, but the property owner made a costly mistake in deciding to remove the trees without approval from the City. Planning and Building departments can be difficult to work with, and it is really a bad idea to go ahead with clearing the property, without getting their approval. They do not take violation of their rules and codes lightly, and can punish you by delaying your project, increasing fines, etc.

As to Donald Trump, yes, the Trump Administration's military action in the Middle East has caused a rise in gasoline prices, which in turn has caused a rise in the cost of lumber, but there was apparently little or no loss of any trees on the property in question which had value as lumber, only aesthetic value, or maybe erosion prevention value.

I didn't read the article as to WHY cut trees in the Oakland Hills, but I'd offer up VIEWS as a distinct possibility.

I read an article about this particular situation which stated that the owners cut down the trees in order to clear space to construct a building on the property. I'd expect that the City Planning Commission and the Building Department will make this project as difficult (and costly) for this landowner to do, in addition to the fines already imposed.

Nobody who has lived any amount of time in the Bay Area can be dumb enough to think "they are my trees and I can do what I want". I'm guessing tech executive.

Yesterday May 10, 2026 Trump sat with Sharyl Attkisson and said: "I want to go to Fort Knox. I want to see if the gold is there." Then he said, "THEY STEAL A LOT."

Was Trump speculating or was he TELLING YOU what already happened? Is the audit already done and the results classified?

Auditing Fort Knox and other US gold reserves was just red meat being thrown at concerned voters, much like with the Epstein files saga. These reserves haven't been audited in decades, including Trump's first mandate, and they're not going to be audited under Trump's second either.

You were one of the people on here who have denied the Gaza genocide, right?

As to Nigeria, not nearly the same scale, and not quite a "Christian genocide" either.

Quote:

In a Truth Social post at the end of October, Trump cited a figure of 3,100 Christians killed. He was referring to a report by Open Doors for deaths for the 12 months from October 2023, a White House official said.

Open Doors is a charity which researches the persecution of Christians worldwide.
In its reporting it says that while 3,100 Christians died, 2,320 Muslims were also killed in that 12-month period.

Open Doors also includes what it calls "Fulani Terror Groups" in its list of perpetrators and says they were responsible for almost a third of Christians killed in an area of central Nigeria known as the Middle Belt during those 12 months.

Frans Veerman, senior research fellow at Open Doors, said "what we see now is that Christians are still targeted, but increasingly some Muslims are targeted by Fulani militants".

Analysts say there are many violent attacks on mosques and Muslim communities in the north-west of the country.

"One could say that this is part of the broader insecurity," said Mr McHarry. "The reason why it is not assumed to have a religious dimension is down to the fact that the identities of the people who are carrying out these attacks against Muslims are themselves Muslims."

What you and Tenner here are implying is that the mass starvation of Gazans is due to their marriage patterns and cosanguinity, as if the deliberate destruction of their hospitals combined with forced starvation by the Israelis was not the reason they starved to death.

More insidiously, you are using that cultural trait to smear Palestinians and whitewash their genocide. You wouldn't do the same for other people who share the same cultural marriage patterns like Nigerians or Sudanese, because that is not what is being spoon fed to you by neocon propaganda.
