That's because the greatest power the police have is the ability to prevent crime. Traffic stops, pedestrian stops, investigative detentions...what used to be called police work.

Now it's respond to crimes that have occurred and take a report. That's Apparently what America wants so have at it.

New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland--all of those cities has a Democrat mayor. It's no coincidence that they currently have crime waves that are out of control. The Democrats are soft on crime and criminals and hate the police. When will the citizens of those cities wise up and stop voting for Democrats? They may be getting lots of free stuff, but they're being killed right and left. The minorities, poor, and homeless in those cities are getting hit particularly hard, which is ironic. The Democrats really don't care about those constituencies; they just want their votes. DeBlasio in NYC is the poster child for totally incompetent Democrat mayors. He should be recalled ASAP.

This is a left wing talking point. Prior to the pandemic, unemployment, particularly among blacks were at historical lows.

A last ditch attempt by a desperate administration, a desperate party, and a Conservative propaganda machine to distract the public from the current state of affairs within America and create fear.

I will not forget how this administration has turned America into a laughingstock. We were respected for 70 years, now we have our peer global leaders literally laugh at ours at international conferences. America's reputation to uphold international alliances and influence international agreements has been completely obliterated. America's response to the only major global crisis of the last four years has been abysmal and the worst among peer nations in the world by nearly every metric (infected, deaths, duration), with the subsequent economic peril having yet to come home to roost. I also will not forget, the administration's willful glee in the trivialization and dismissing minority issues, and the enactment of xenophobic policies the majority of America were against. Nor will I forget the complete lack of action on the infrastructure initiatives, nor any meaningful action on the opiods epidemic, yet I do clearly remember them trying time and time again to take away our healthcare system, even though they had no plan or policy to replace it with.

Now the administration and the Conservative party are running on 'Law and Order', in spite of being the most blatant and continuously corrupt administration of all time. They don't want 'Law and Order', true 'Law and Order; would hurt their ability to steal from the people of this country. True 'Law and Order' would mean they would be held accountable for their corruption. No, when they say 'Law and Order', they mean 'listen to me and only me, there are scary monsters are outside, and they are going to hurt you, if someone tells you otherwise they are actually a scary monster and they want to hurt you, but if you listen to me and only me, and do everything I say, when I say it, I will keep you safe'.

The country, this administration, the Conservative party, and the Conservative Ministry of Information all know they have nothing to run on. They have no ideas, they have no new policy ambitions, they have no vision for a better America, Now they are simply trying to manufacture and sell fear, as fear draws emotional responses, which leads to logic, reason, and memory failing. Fortunately, America has learned how to deal with the distractions and America is not forgetting, and they will be heard this November.

Once again, you're avoiding the central point by creating the empathy diversion. It may have worked for you in court, but it won't work with me. Do you have an intelligient response to the fact that I presented? I doubt it, because you don't know hoe to deal with facts that don't align with your viewpoint. I don't respect you intellectually either; so I guess we're even on that score.

I do not believe in lawlessness. I went off on a tangent when you (or one of you) tried to wrap your point in respectability by expressing faux concern for the impact on minorities and the poor ( the linked articles were to demonstrate why Conservatives have no credibility on that point). What I do know is tRumpism is not the answer. I am willing to take my chances having a Biden Administration deal with the issue.
I believe communities like Berkeley will self correct when programs like civilians dealing with traffic issues results in an exponential rise in DUI fatalities ( people pulled over for traffic infractions are often discovered to be under the influence. No way anyone under the influence is going to pull over at request of a civilian). If police defunding results in a corresponding lack of protection for the most vulnerable, there will be a hue and cry to reverse it.

I don't see any "hue and cry" in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Seattle, or Portland. Crime is out of control in all of those cities. This is not a new problem in Chicago, which has been run by Democrats for decades. Unfortunately, people just seem to accept it. And the vast majority of people being killed are blacks. Same in the other 6 cities. I thought Democrats were strong supporters for improving the living conditions of black communities. Apparently not, given the evidence in these cities. New York city is another example. Crime there is up some 400% over last year (mostly black on black crime) and DeBlasio takes $1billion out of the police budget and eliminates one of their most effective crime fighting units. This is pure insanity. You can't just make this stuff up. Regarding Berkeley, when is the last time the Mayor and City Council did anything that made sense?

The crime rate right now is nothing compared to what it was in the 70s and 80s. Even with this recent uptick it's still near a multi-decade low. Could it be this is the beginning of a new long-term upward trend? Maybe. But it's way too early to draw that conclusion. Could just be that it's been a bad year . . . I can think of a lot of reasons why.

Well, let me point out that the current governors of New Mexico, Nevada, and Louisiana are Democrats. So out of the top 5 states on your list, 3 of them have Democrat governors. The 6 U.S. cities with the highest murder rate, are also run by Democrat mayors. Those cities, in order, are:
East St. Louis, MO
Chester, PA
St. Louis. MO
Gary, IN
Baltimore, MD
Pine Bluff, AK

Of further interest is the fact that the 20 U.S. cities with the highest violent crime rate are ALL run by Democrat mayors, according to the website Neighborhood Scout. In order, those cities are:
Detroit, MI
Memphis, Tenn
Birmingham, AL
Baltimore MD
Flint, MI
St. Louis, MO
Danville, ILL
Saginaw, MI
Wilmington, DEL
Camden, MJ
Pine Bluff, AK
Kansas City, MO
San Bernardino, CA
Alelxandria, LA
Little Rock, AK
Cleveland, OH
Milwaukee, WI
Stockton, CA
Monroe, LlA
Chester, PA

Now, do you really think it's a coincidence that the 20 cities with the highest violent crime rate, the 6 cities with the highest murder rate, and 3 of the top 5 highest crime states on your list are all run by Democrats? I don't see how any reasonable person could conclude anything but that Democrats are soft on crime and criminals. Recent evidence in NYC, Chicago, Seattle, Atlanta, Washington D.C. and Portland also point to that fact.

Great analysis! So clearly the only logical conclusion is that Liberals like crime, right? It's clearly a mental disorder. Why do those weirdos choose crime when they could instead be nice, normal people? When is the last time a Conservative ever committed a crime? Like never.

I think it is time to increase the power of the presidency so he can eradicate the pestilence of Liberals. Don't you think? I mean EVERY single one of them is irrational and wants to steal and be gay and change sexes and silence the use of perfectly good words and do more crime and ruin Christmas. We need to crush them once and for all!

Without them we can create a more pure society where just the good Conservatives can live in peace with one another. Can you imagine how pleasant and utopian it would be to have a world of just the FOX viewing audience? Just think how kind that world would be: marching in great love of humanity with their guns, making sure that all are white and hold strict traditional values, enforcing flag protection and a theocracy, and celebrating that there are only winners and losers in a cut throat economic model based on nepotism and bribery. One can only dream how stressless and easy that society would be.

If we just could eliminate the diseased Liberals from the country, it would be paradise. Because being American is only what GoldenOne says it is. And what he says is great!

Yes, I'm the one with a problem. Let's look at just a small selection of your greatest hits on coronavirus from a 30 hour period in early March. And then, please, continue to lecture me on how I'm the one with a problem with data.

After embarrassing yourself you disappeared for almost 3 months before starting an inflammatory thread about democrat run states having higher death rates from COVID, which is your stock in trade. You are a one trick pony and it's not a very fancy trick. You should leave the analysis to people who can engage with data thoughtfully and stick to your content-free drivebys and your claims that everyone who disagrees with you has TDS.

March 2:
Quote:

You must be having a bad dream. Whatever you think about Trump, his response to the corona virus has been outstanding--swift and comprehensive. And he is being advised by the world's leading epidemiologists and infectious disease experts. What would you do differently?
Quote:

Your lack of awareness is telling. Large scale testing is now underway. Limiting travel very early in this saga (January 2020) is a key to minimizing the ability of the virus to crossinto our country.

Let me give you a little reminder of history. In 2009 President Obama (your messiah) was faced with a similar crisis due to the H1-N1 virus. Before he took the steps Trump has already taken (including a travel ban), Obama waited 6 months, by which time there were already 20,000 Americans hospitalized and 1,000 Americans dead. Don't led your TDS color your ability to reason and think rationally.

If you think the administration has eschewed expertise on the virus issue, you're either totally ignorant (which I doubt) or you have no idea who is on the team Trump has assembled. It includes the most renown epidemiologists and infectious disease experts in the world. You should try to educate yourself on the composition of the team before you spout off nonsense. And this team is working closely with the WHO, which brings even more experts into the fray.

I guess you've never heard of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, one of the world's foremost experts in immunology and epidemiology. Or how about Dr. Robert Redfield (Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) or Dr. Anne Schuchaf (Depty Didrector of CDC) or Dr. Francis Collins (Director Of the National Institute of Health)? All of them are on the President's task force and have been meeting daily with the media on TV to explain what's being done to combat the corona virus. Today Dr. Fauci announced that our scientists have developed a vaccine for the virus and testing through the FDA on humans will begin very soon. He also said that medications are being developed to treat the virus and will be available before the vaccine is ready for widespread use. But none of these facts fits your TDS narrative that nothing is being done, or the effort is being led by bungling non-scientists. Get a clue!

Rather than praying for people you think suffer from a nonexistent disease, maybe you could pray that Trump and your fellow republicans begin to take COVID more seriously and start to do something about it.

Yup, nationwide we've had pretty historically low crime rates in recent years. This six-month blip only looks high in comparison to that.

And if you're being intellectually honest, that should also cause you to wonder: what were those Democratic mayors and city councils doing to so successfully reduce the crime rate in the last 5-10 years? Because I'm sure most of these cities had Democratic leadership during that time frame too. But no, apparently it's only useful to mention "Democrat leaders" when something bad is happening.

The only mayor that is allowed to receive praise for crime reduction is Rudy Giuliani. This happened in NYC in the 1990's when Giuliani was Mayor. It does not matter that crime went down in the 1990's across almost all cities across America. Giuliani performed a miracle and that is not allowed to be questioned.

Then the people in those cities should vote out the leaders. Non-federal crimes are purely within the jurisdiction of local government. If the people vote for the local leaders that create the environment, they get the government they chose and deserve. We all live with the choices we make. And if I don't like the crime rate and politics in a specific city, that will definitely be a strong factor in where I choose to live.

More than anything, crime rate is a reflection of economics and strong family values. The real question is are the liberal economic policies generating sufficient economic and family stability and well being that people have more to lose to deter against committing petty and serious crimes? I don't think so, but that is the core of the debate between liberal and conservative fiscal policy. I don't think liberal or conservative social policies play a lot into it, but just my opinion.

Liberalism is a mental illness.

You're sick. When you can't refute the facts, you just go on a rant.

Liberalism is a mental illness.
When you can't see the fats, you make them up. And yes, I am sick. Sick of people like you standing by and enabling the end of the pretty great country and life we had 4 years ago.

If I'm so sick, why is it that my satire isn't that far off from something you would actually write and believe?

If this COVID is nothing more than the sniffles or a Deep State hoax, ignoring of course the 140K dead Americans, why don't we try this?

Every person who believes it's fake or inconsequential, be given COVID while the rest of us shelter in place. I mean that gives everyone what they want, right? Quick to herd immunity, the Trumpers get to "prove" that the disease is nothing, we all get to make our own choice, and the country has a quick plan that can be over with in about 4-5 weeks.

Oh wait, you mean the Trumpers won't do this? Because those are only WORDS they say to argue against Liberals? They don't mean them at all? They actually do know that the disease is real and dangerous, they just don't want to admit it? Ah, I see, I didn't realize they are literally willing to die for this president and everything is about saving face and owning the Libs.
