William Barr's loyalty to the President will be rewarded with a job for life.

Hey, I just had an idea...

What do you think the chances are that Trump will strike a blow for fairness and nominate Merrick Garland?

Barr is too old. Trump will pick someone in their 40's.

I still think our best hope is that Trump tries to hold Republicans hostage by waiting until after election to appoint someone. Would possibly motivate more anti Trump republicans to vote for him. But you never know with this clown.

The only way Trump will get to pick a new justice is if it's after the election. And I wouldn't call it a solid conservative majority, even if he gets one. Roberts is very moderate and can go either way quite often.
It may well be after the election to protect the likes of Susan Collins, who is up for reelection. But it will certainly occur before January 20, 2021. And regarding a solid conservative majority, you'll have Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and the new justice. That's 5 solid conservatives. Then if you say Roberts is about 1/2 of a conservative vote, that gives you 5 1/2 conservatives and 3 1/2 liberals. I'd say that's about as solid a majority as you'll ever get on the Supreme Court. Then you have Breyer, who is getting up there in age. So, if Trump get's re-elected, you're likely to have an extremely solid conservative majority ot 6 1/2 to 2 1/2. That would be close to utopia!

This one is entirely on all the Bernie Crybabies who didn't vote for Hillary. This is the biggest and most expensive toy they broke in their psychotic rage. Thanks.

Last presidential election was undoubtedly a failure by the Democrats and Progressives, but the numbers show that a greater percentage (and overall number) of Bernie voters voted for Hillary than Hillary voters for Obama in '08.

If the establishment is looking to parse out blame then the demographic that deserves the lion's share is suburban white voters (Republicans, Moderate Democrats, and Independents) who actually voted for donnie and swung the electoral map. (not that it's anyone's business, but no I am not a Bernie voter personally)

I wonder if the fact that Moscow Mitch is up for re election will factor in. He's unpopular in his own state and I wouldn't be surprised if this causes millions to pour in for his opponent. This could really catalyze his opposition.

RIP RBG. Although socially moderate and fiscally conservative, I always found her to be one of the good ones in

Socially moderate? Are you kidding. She was the most liberal justice, socially and fiscally on the entire Court. She might have been more moderate than Bernie, but not by much.
Perhaps you might want to read that again...slowly.
Clearly, OB66 is stating HE'S socially moderate and fiscally conservative, NOT RBG.

RIP RBG

I seriously doubt it will hold, especially if Trump nominates a sitting U.S. Senator, like Ted Cruz. The rinos in the Senate will have a hard time voting against one of their own.

I think this is bigger than offending a colleague. If you keep changing precedents to suit each situation, then eventually it'll come back to bite you in the ass.

True, but the sitting senators never seem to worry about the long-term consequences of their actions. They only concern themselves with the near-term and their self-interest.

He can correct you himself, but read it again again. Think of his posting history. It goes without saying she is liberal. He is saying that he respected her despite the fact that he differs politically.

It was one of unfortunately too few decent posts on here.

The precedent is that no Senate majority has confirmed a Supreme Court nominee in the last year of a Senate minority party's lame duck presidential term.

There have been other nominations and appointments in the last year from presidents of the same party as the Senate majority: https://www.scotusblog.com/2016/02/supreme-court-vacancies-in-presidential-election-years/

I'll add that I'm sad that RBG passed before she could retire of her own volition. I disagreed with her legal stances on many occasions but respected her as a person of integrity who stuck to her values and worked well with her colleagues, even when they disagreed.
