them oregon state beavers put 8 in the box & brought the dogs of war on blitzing packages on almost every play in their upset of the offensively inept (without qb cameron rising who will probably return for the bears game against the utes in salt lake city) utah, that's also gonna be the beavs gameplan against the bears next weekend at memorial stadium

but the real question is gonna be if coach sirmon & the head coach decide to dial up the pressure tomorrow at noon against the asu sun devils starting with the 1st series against an inexperienced quarterback operating behind the worst offensive line in the pac 12 that didn't get coached up this week as asu offensive line coach saga tuitele is not with the team

OSU DC Trent Bray is very good. He is a strong contender for the HC spot at OSU if Smith departs. Or he could follow Smith and be a DC at a place where they will be able to recruit better athletes than OSU has.

other than the jack endries crossing pattern route catch thru the middle 3rd of the field (which is available in every game) the bears tight ends did not play well today against the sun devils

pitch outs to jaydn ott in open space are woefully underutilized by the coaching staff as is the speed option to the edge with sam jackson v

the cal football program should be scoring more points in football games

jalen tole me that coach madsen will run a usual playing rotation of 7-8 players in marquee matchups with him playing 35+ minutes but that will expand to a 10-12 playing rotation in less competitive preseason & conference games with him playing 28+ minutes...we talked about flagstaff (elevation 7000) & its impact upon physical conditioning, mark has already noted jalen's excellent cardio stamina

huge kudos to jalen for not playing video games like many of his teammates, he'd rather play his guitar (we actually talked about black artists in country & western music) & sleep (tole him ima sofa king too)...his roommate at the basketball house is bishop o'dowd's monty bowser

asked cone whose improved the most during summer/fall practices...jaylen is very diplomatic but noted that grant newell has made significant strides forward in his game including his kinda suspect shooting from last season

jalen laughed re: my question of the toughest defender & tole me that serbian vladimir pavlovic literally lives in his jersey with physicality during practices, vlad gotta lotta jorge in his game

the monster is always real with everybody so shocky tole jalen that in watching him against asu last winter in tempe that i wuz not impressed with his hero ball & the ball sticking in his hands...too much strawberry in that jam...jaylen understood my scouting report (and skillset feedback from asu's bobby hurley who works out with me at the village in north scottsdale) & we both agreed that when a mid major plays a power five conference team that the star player (in this case cone) gets double teamed the whole game as the opponent is not gonna let him beat them & the reality the rest of the lumberjacks lineup wuz not skilled or +1 athletic

lastly we had some honest talk about his beautiful daughter, his girlfriend (a curvy brunette latina yoga female from san diego that plays soccer for nau) & his baby mama...he's doing a great job of balancing his personal life

shocky got to visit with a lotta fun people yesterday during his 9 hour in & out burger gameday roadtrip to nor cal

among those wuz doing the hang with 4th gen bear's guests jalen cone & his girlfriend taylor gomez who recently graduated from northern arizona...tay played soccer for the jacks & wuz a criminal studies major but her dad (a police officer in san diego) does not want her to follow in his footsteps...yeah tay is a curvy brunette yoga female that can 100% kick jalen's sorry azz if necessary

nau is in flagstaff (the home of my summer club, average temps in the 70s) & at 7000 elevation (which is optimal for player conditioning) cone is gonna be ready to play big minutes in coach maddog's 7-8 heavy minutes playing rotation which will expand to 10-12 against weaker opponents



asked jalen what's his max shooting range & he tole me that at the last scrimmage he shot one from downtown 7 feet behind the 3 point line...asked him if coach madsen had a heart attack or not & jalen tole me with a smile that "no, coach got confidence in me"

and that's awesome to hear that mark gives his stars a green light to do their thing on a basketball court with a basketball

madsen played for hall of fame coach montgomery back in the day before his los angeles lakers championship rings, the reality is that mike became more of a player's coach as a direct result of his failed nba coaching trial with the golden state warriors...his coaching style afterwards wuz less controlling, yeah life is not linear

as the director of basketball recruiting/gameday attendance for cal's monster class during the coach martin era of almost 11,000 fans on gamedays, cuonzo tole me that the deal/recruiting pitch with our multiple mcdonalds all americans wuz that if you played lockdown relentless energy d (which is 100% necessary in order to get paid in the nba), then we would let you improvise on offense without a lotta structure

mark fox & his enabling athletic director james arthur knowtlon never understood this modern day reality

bottom line, very glad that mark is gonna let his players play the game without them looking over their shoulder at an angry head coach, the magic of cal basketball is gonna return to haas this november

basketball is a game (and like any celebration of life should be fun)#

5) oregon state: home field advantage could be the difference maker in what promises to be a game of phsyciality, the team with the the key chunk plays will be victorious...this is the worst 16th ranked team in the nation with 3 victories against teams that would also get their azzs handed to them by idaho...fyi the perennial out of shape jermaine terry has caught 1 pass for 4 yards on the season

6) usc: the oppenheimer game at memorial stadium on october 28th will be sold out in the last meeting of usc & california in our lifetimes, the atmosphere will be ******* electric...this will be the most challenging match up of the season against the trojans elite wide receivers vs the bears takers...if the bears win the field stormin' after the game will see the goal posts torn down & dragged down bancroft

7) oregon: the ducks d is not elite, if the bears can generate offense on the road at autzen & remain calm thru the crowd noise then a victory might be possible...this is a school that cheats at every fork in the road, dana altman is a criminal & an absolute piece of **** as a human being on planet earth...**** the ducks

8) washington: this road game next week in seattle will be an excellent barometer of the cal d, is the bears d arguably the best d in the pac 12 or not?...we gonna find out

9) utah: would be a huge plus if the game is not played at nite in freezing azz salt lake city, not gonna miss the road trips to this dumpy backwards azz town with ugly azz architecture...the utes are gonna roll opponents in 2024 as they compete in the big 12, the conference of truck stop skool academics

2) asu: yeah asu defensive coordinator/future nfl of famer marv lewis is not working overtime this week in prepping the sun devils d against "the easiest team in the pac 12 to gameplan against" with coach wilcox's signature preference in not attacking the middle 3rd of the field (or pitching the ball on the edge to jaydn ott thereby allowing our superstar to operate in space) because of his conservative irrational fear of turnovers...despite the worst offensive line in the pac 12, runnings back cameron skattebo & decarlos brooks are running hard in gaining tough yardage...defensively the real question is coach sirmon gonna dial up the heat on the moderately skilled starting qb drew pyne?...last year in south bend peter opted to scheme break not bend which allowed pyne (who at that point had never played a down of college football) to eventually get into a rhythm & eventually make a couple of plays to lead the irish to a victory over the bears...that's not how morgan scalley would game planned it with the bears d talent...bet

3) oregon state: home field advantage for the bears in 2 weeks against a team that lacks +1 athletes on d & a qb who makes bad decisions when under pressure...the beavs got the 2nd best offensive line in the pac 12 after washington & running back damien martinez (432 yards) gotta relentless non stop motor

4) ucla: very winnable game at the rose bowl in what is likely the final game for a long time between these 2 uc flagships schools...after the last couple of seasons it's absolutely shocking the lack of high end offensive speed for the bruins, the running backs, tight ends & wide receivers (including j-mike) are not +1 athletic high twitch explosive playmakers

5) washington state: qb cameron ward is the real deal but the cougars are 1 dimensional with the worst run game in the pac 12...the d is undersized & plays hard...the home field at memorial stadium could be the difference maker on november 11th, r u gonna b there?

6) usc: throw out the records, the oppenheimer game on october 28th at memorial stadium is gonna be ******* lit!

7) utah: the utes offensive without cameron rising (will he be healthy by the time cal goes to salt lake city on october 14th?) is actually kinda mediocre but morgan scalley is the most fired up & effective defensive coordinator in the western united states

8) oregon: the ducks are rolling right now & autzen is the toughest venue in the pac 12 for visitors

a cal victory against asu this saturday at noon at memorial stadium gets the bears to 3-2 thereby setting up a very winnable home game against oregon state the following week to move to 4-2 & get the program into position to become potentially bowl eligible

r u gonna b in berkeley this saturday?...shocky is gonna be on the ground in nor cal for only 9 hours in order to watch homakawa compete in the 2023 ryder cup

updated monster probability of victories in final season of the pac 12:

1) stanford: troy taylor is not a miracle worker, palo alto needs to create a grad cert program like berkeley in order to retain graduating seniors with eligibility

2) ucla: lack of bruins speed at the skills position is shocking, this is gonna be our last chance to park on the 14th fairway by the roped off green/bunkers of the pasadena golf course

3) oregon state: coach wilcox needs a signature win, fully expect an amped up crowd this sat nite at 7:00 pm at memorial stadium

4) washington state: home field advantage could be the edge the bears need vs traveling to the freezing as **** palouse

5) usc: the bloodiest game in the history of memorial stadium in the final football game between the bears & trojans in our lifetimes

6) utah: without cameron rising the utah offense kinda looks like the asu offense

7) oregon: the ducks live in a truck stop town, not gonna miss the gameday roadtrips to overrated eugene cc (if it wuz within 100 miles of nyc it would never be on any architecture purist's radar)
