6956, nusi is a family based person who is mentally limitless from an academic perspective (just like 3.8 gpa cade), he is 100% being recruited as an outside backer/edge defender in coach so'oto's room & and got the necessary explosive quick twitch SPEED & explosive violence to compete for a starting job as a true freshman in the fall of 2025 with the hopeful nfl departures of david reese & xavier carlton...both olb spots r gonna be 100% wide open in competition in the fall of 2025 for nusi if berkeley is the call (the byu depth chart is not as wide open in 2025: https://www.ourlads.com/ncaa-football-depth-charts/depth-chart/brigham-young/90222)

right now this looks like a byu vs cal recruiting battle with utah, stanford & oklahoma state also competing for the ELITE game changing talent

patrick hits the ball almost as far as brandon hagy with unreal clubhead speed & tole me that the team's #1 ranked player wenliang xie is gonna grad transfer to cal's biz certificate program to compete for the bears during his final year of eligibility...patrick tole me that xie gotta complete game with professional golf upside & that he's a soft spoken very likable teammate

https://calbears.com/news/2024/7/15/general-markeisha-everett-set-to-oversee-nacma.aspx

"I am focused on getting things done. My mentality here at Cal is what's best for the university respecting the rich history and traditions that it has, and everything that those who have come before me have built while being able to bring new solutions and be a problem solver and the mentality with NACMA is the same," Everett said. "I'm going to make sure that I'm not leading from a perspective of 'This is what I want,' but more so, 'This is what the membership needs,' making sure that we are providing tools, resources and training that speaks to the ever-changing landscape of college athletics."
One thing that has been happening at the university over the last 10+ years is way more emphasis on professional development, professional networking, and advanced degrees among staff-persons. In general I view this as a negative development because there is usually SO MUCH work that can be done within one's immediate workplace that I have no idea how people make time for the conferences and groups outside of the that workplace where you might learn a tiny bit of theoretical information but you're not directly serving your stakeholders and making improvements for them. It also makes people seem like interchangeable cogs whereas I think staying somewhere where you can really learn the ins-and-outs of a particular workplace (e.g. possibly like Andrew M, although I don't know much about the work he does) seems much more valuable IMO.
Another example: Cal sold out for Furd in 2022 but did not sell out Auburn in 2023. Between those 2 games they lost several staffmembers with institutional knowledge that could have helped with ticket sales. Having people with are building institutional knowledge (who are also preserving that knowledge for others) seems very important. And making sure those people feel valued, and having some objective metrics to measure performance.

The athletic department calling the 2022 Big Game a sellout with only 51.8k tickets sold was an absolute joke.

There were 4-5k unsold seats (+ ~6k tarped off). The capacity of the remodeled CMS is 63k.

That's all just marketing...attendance of over 50k is huge given the landscape and worth celebrating. We need to keep home games north of 40k and work toward 50k on a regular basis

hare, as u know talented professionals will NOT work for knowlton & markeisha long term, they will gravitate towards well run organizations

colorado, one of the multitude of tricks for incompetent bureaucrats like markeisha is to tarp off entire sections & then set really low sales metrics & then claim victory once those numbers are met

shocky's hawaii top 10:

https://instagr.am/p/B93P9HjDUlX
plz keep in mind that lifelong students of golf course architecture weigh heavily the architect's routing as it affects the walkability of a course...most casual golfers don't really care about this but golf purists don't consider playing in a golf cart real golf & most hawaiian island courses are really just scenic vapid cartball venues...and so with that being said, this is the monster's rankings:

1) kapalua plantation: a stunning marriage of the ocean & a challenging mountainous pineapple field, the plantation is the only must play design in the islands...finishing on the dramatic wind swept downhill par 5 18th hole with lanai in the background is one of life's great joys
https://instagr.am/p/CgUoT4QuwAs
huge chasm in the rankings

2) nanea: charles schwab's uber private venue (his partner is george roberts of kk&r) for zillionaires is a spectacular david kidd design but it's a shame that with thousands of acres at his disposal that kidd didn't create a tighter more walkable design...the outdoor shower in the modern clubhouse is one of my favorite locker room amenities in the world
https://instagr.am/p/CUgP2KPvs3u
3) mauna kea: robert trent jones sr best design in his multiple decade design portfolio, it lacks the predictability that defines so much of his work...the collection of par 3 are outstanding as is the once a week buffet on the beach after swimming with the friendly but scary azz looking sea eels
https://instagr.am/p/CuaX06WuPtx
4) mama's fish house: pro tip, get a reservation unless u wanna dine on the taco bell/pizza hut combo meal in town
https://instagr.am/p/ChFe77aJ5xz
5) kukio: one of tom fazio's best designs with more strategic options than most of his usual work, the over the top lavish refreshment stands are a great way to put another 10+ lbs on a long weekend

6) wailua: outstanding public course hardscrabbled along the coastline on kauai, 40 bucks to walk on weekdays, a morning round followed by an afternoon t-rex jurassic park hike is a perfect day...the rustic caynon of the islands

7) waialae cc: there's not much seth raynor left in the design but tom doak is taking steps to return some of it, love the tight walkable routing with views of diamond head

8) manele: dramatic nicklaus course on lanai but flawed by its cartball routing

9) kukul'ula: dramatic weiskopf course on kauai but flawed by its cartball routing

10) any ramen shop in honolulu or food truck on the epic north shore

The equivalent attendance would be 10k. I know I dont share your tail wagging exuberance (though I do admire it at times) that would still be 4x more than what the twin anchors of AD/marketing have served up. I had that gold pass experiment (season ticket seating assigned just before gametime) thing during the monster class wand watched plenty of basketball with my back against the arena lol.

2024 british open at royal troon: 1st round update

collin morikawa: yeah collin wuz in between clubs on the diabolical par 3 postage stamp 8th hole & made a double bogey with a wedge lost in the strong left to right sidewinds (izzy in the above video beat our berkeley grad) but morikawa battled back with an under par back nine with several clutch par putts so he's still in the tournament after a 73 & tied for 43rd

ben an: 7th in the field today in putting stats, ben uncharacteristically missed a lotta greens in regulation en route to a 75 & is tied for 83rd...the top 70 & ties will make the cut after tomorrow's play & the play the weekend

max homa: 130th in the field in approach shot stats which is a function of not properly flighting trajectories thru the uk coastal winds, homa is driving the ball well but just don't seem to be enjoying himself...after a 76 max is tied for 96th...tomorrow is another opportunity to relax & not stress re: the frequent vagaries of pure links golf

at the barracuda pga tournament in truckee michael kim is 113th place in the modified stableford scoring system

on the korn ferry tour kk limbhaust despite taking 4 shots to get in the cup from 15 feet on the par 3 13th hole still shot a 69 & is tied for 66th

on the pga tour americas tournament in quebec canada brandon hagy showed improvement in his driving accuracy en route to a 68 & is tied for 56th

nerdy napkin math:

$15,000,000-fy23/24 covert loan by the athletic department from the central campus discovered by shocky's relentless public information requests

plus

$19,000,000-fy24/25 reduction in media rights revenues from pac 12 to acc

plus

$6,500,000-cal share of pac 2 settlement payment to oregon state/washington state

plus

$15,000,000-fy24/25 additional travels costs to acc competitions

equals

$55,500,000 revenue shortfall

minus

$10,000,000-fy24/25 calimony

equals

$45,500,000-revenue SHORTFALL with no financial plans/sports team cost cutting measures by knowlton, it shouldn't take an outside independent audit to recognize that the athletic department is heading towards an existential financial tsunami
____________________________________________________________________________

major cal athletic department staffing update:

cfo tom lowry has resigned effective june 1st, lowry wuz handpicked by knowlton from the air force academy...no replacement has been hired/named at this time

not so fun fact: the above nerdy napkin math does NOT include the recent acc vote for schools to make $20,000,000 direct nil payments in fy25/26 bringing the future annual financial deficit to $59,000,000 (the pac 2 settlement payment is a one time non recurring expense)
