during the 2022 season ashton hayes moms made some really dumb azz comments that her son wuz not getting a chance to be a superstar that maybe he should be starting ahead of jaydn ott or even "moved to another position like the defense line"

anyways, good luck to ashton in trading his berkeley degree which is literally worth millions of dollars over a lifetime for his future nevada degree in either their highly regarded casino parking & slot machine repair double major or the fiercely competitive escort management major

50 year decision#
Welp, I can't be sure he's wrong about the Cal workouts not being as tough, since our strength and conditioning seems suspect, given all the injuries we have had.
Plus, I give him some credit for being back home and feeling a need to talk trash about that "out-of-state" school.

I don't think his mom was being a "dumb azz," by the way. She was concerned that he should get more play time. He did show some great skills and speed on ST. IMHO, she was just being a mom, but might have also been setting the table for him to feel the need to portal. Now, his home games are close to her. IMHO, he's not Ott, but he has a higher than normal ceiling.

Oh, and fun fact: I seem to remember UNR's pistol offense cleaning our Bear clock, two years in a row, with a certain dual threat QB by the name of Colin Kaepernick. UNR has some credit in CFB.

Youth coach here. Parents can be dumbasses. Like when they think their kid should play ahead of a freshman all American or move from RB to DL.

transcript from a late breakfast (egg salad sandwich on sourdough, 32 oz green drink & apple slices) this morning at jj's deli in north scottsdale:

mr sun angel: really can't believe your ****, did you ask my wife last nite at whole foods why don't "i love them scared and frightened animal rescue doggys that live on the streets without a safety zone?"

shocky (munching on his food): i dunno, maybe

mr sun angel (handing over a 6 digit check in support of animal advocacy facilities in maricopa county): yeah, well thanks, so when i get home last night my wife is screaming at me and our daughter is crying because ima horrible person that doesn't care about "doggys"...do you have any sense of social cues or do you always just say whatever the **** you wanna say without any filtering of what might be appropriate or not?

shocky (putting the check in his pocket): sorry, ima gonna eat your pineapple if your not gonna eat it

mr sun angel (getting up to go & getting walked to his car): you really are a smelly berkeley hippie, you know that, don't you?...and thanks for paying for my "free" breakfast

silence as we walk into the parking lot

mr sun angel: what time tomorrow?

shocky: balls in the air at 12:30 pm, no mulligans

mr silverleaf sun angel tole me that ben coleman gotta significant "lower body injury" and hasn't practiced even once yet for the sun devils & is doubtful for the upcoming 2023 season this fall with a best case scenario of a late in the schedule emergence

this is yet another indication that football (particularly the trench warfare) is a violent sport but also that s&c coach brian johnson's program for cal's monster offensive line is not working & the byproduct of that failure is an inordinate number of injuries among the playing rotation offensive linemen

major injures in the last year:
ben coleman (starting guard)
matthew cindric (starting center)
spencer lovell (starting guard)
bastian swinney (interior lineman rotation)

significant injuries in the last year causing missed games:
brian driscoll (starting guard/center)
sioape vatikani (starting guard)
brayden rohme (starting tackle)
tj sessions (starting tackle)
trent ramsey (interior lineman rotation)
jackson brown (tackle rotation)

hopefully coach johnson is gonna wake up & quit ignoring my emails offering to help, our linemen moving like granite statues on valium with a lack of bend, flexibility & quick twitch reflexes which are critical to avoiding debilitating injuries gotta stop...the monster stands ready to assist coach johnson with a zoom call with my yoga buddy jaylen brown re: the importance of a yoga/meditation practice incorporated into cal football's s&c program

bowlesly, there is 100% no doubt there are major issues with the s&c training with respects to cal's monster offensive line

The mom has issues which were outlined in Ashton's initial offer article - so if there are problems at home like that it seems that moving home may be a good thing for him. But it is also another indicator of how mental health issues impact the whole family. I feel for him. It impacted his relationship with the team / coaches. Of course at this point he is making the best of it.

6'11" 245 lbs texas tech grad transfer portal super senior with 1 year of remaining eligiblity fardaws aimaq is a key target for coach madsen along with his friend/former utah vally teammate trey woodbury (who is awaiting approval notification from the ncca for his appeal for another season due to an injury 2 years ago that caused him to miss a year)

fardaws started his career at mercer, played a season & then redshirted a year after transferring to utah valley state where he blew up winning the wac player of the year award & also leading the nation in rebounds with 15+ per game...aimaq declared for the nba draft in 2022 & ultimately transferred to texas tech (with mark's approval, he really does put his player's best interests 1st) where he averaged 11.1 ppg & 7.9 rpg before a 11th game injury derailed his season

check out the athleticisim & innate sense for the game in this utah valley playing clips, gotta love the alley oop beautiful lobs, that's just good coaching too

like shareef abdur rahim who wuz attracted to berkeley because of its muslim community, fardaws (who is muslim) is also considering a move to the diverse & beautiful san francisco bay area...aimaq wuz born & grew up in vancouver, his dad faramarz is from afghanistan and moved to germany & then canada to avoid the soviet-afghan war

coach madsen got 4 strong hoopers returning in grant newell, jalen celestine, devin askew & nd okafor, the potential additions of elite talent in fardaws aimaq & trey woodbury could be the right infusions of talent to create a team that is well coached (a false narrative often repeated on this board is that mark fox wuz a strong development/gameday mind, that's not even close to reality) & that plays together with a much faster pace of play & fiery intensity kinda like their new head coach...if this roster is assembled which will require nil dollars, then the bears will compete for potentially 18+ wins next season

the university of california, berkeley=#1 ranked public university in the world
as shared by the monster a week ago, fardaws aimaq is gonna follow his old head coach madsen to their new home in the san francisco bay area & still fully expect fardaws' close friend trey woodbury to be the point guard for the upcoming season subject to ncca approval of his current appeal for another season of eligilbity

and under new conditions we are not alone

You might be trying to take the high road, but it's an incredibly charitable take. UNR has only had 3 RB ever drafted in program history and none at all since 1989 when two of their guys you've never heard of were drafted in the 8th and 9th rounds, respectively. In just that time Cal has had 11 RB drafted including two 1st round picks (one of them a guy everybody's heard of) and two 2nd round picks. Only one of those guys was drafted later than the 7th round. By every objective measure his path to the NFL just got a LOT harder. Now he's competing with Sean Dollars, another more coveted recruit. The question isn't whether Hayes is as good as Ott (he isn't--not even close); it's whether Hayes is better than a rehabbed Dollars. What happens if (when?) Dollars beats him out for the starting role again? (It's worth noting that Dollars entered Oregon in 2019 and missed all of 2021 due to injury so he not only has the extra COVID year he might also be eligible for an extra medical year on top of that.) As for Cal, we made out great here. We got Hayes for last year then got Ott too, then this offseason dumped his attitude and upgraded the room again. I'm at least as thrilled he's gone as it seems he is to be gone.

(Also, pedantic but Cal only played against Kaep once and hasn't played UNR in consecutive seasons since the 1930s.)
Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.

major cal's monster offensive line recruiting news:

6'4' 305 lbs 1st team all american athletic conference left guard cam'ron johnson from the university of houston (originally shadow creek high school in pearland, texas where he wuz a track & field standout) entered the portal this afternoon & wuz offered by coach bloesch offered within minutes

the iron man started all 13 games at left guard with only 1 sack on the season & zero pressures in 34 attempts during the independence bowl victory for the cougars, this is an immediate high impact elite prospect that is already known to coach bloesch & coach spav

cam'ron is a grad transfer that can be immediately recruited, that's why he don't got to wait until the portal reopens in may for those that don't got their college degrees...getting johnson on an official visit to berkeley is a huge priority for the staff

yeah coach bloesch is the most intense, demonstrative & loudest bear on the staff (and only a couple decibels quieter than the monster on gamedays)

Youth coach here. Parents can be dumbasses. Like when they think their kid should play ahead of a freshman all American or move from RB to DL.
I'm trying to take a high road.

jermarl baker's official visit to berkeley circa 2016 is reported as follows by cal's monster class:
https://bearinsider.com/forums/8/topics/28431/33

it's 5:30 pm at haas pavilion & unlike the crooked azz free throw shooting cal basketball team shocky is practicing his free throws at the north basket at haas pavilion while coach jones is playing horse at the south basket with one of the smooth shooting dads while other coaches walk in & out of newell court

at 5:40 pm the horse game at the other end of the court concludes with handshakes & fist bumps

at 5:45 pm juhwan harris dyson & jemarl baker enter haas pavilion in jeans & t-shirts & start shooting around at the south basket...this is my 1st time viewing them & both appear to actually be their reported 6'4" heights...at one point juhwan's ball rolls down to my end of my court & i'm tempted to ask him "where you live?" to see if he will point at the berkeley hills but don't do that, recruits & donors can never interact, the cal basketball program is a clean program that does things the right way so i keep my mouth shut...a couple of times i catch them watching me as i'm watching them

*****juhwan harris dyson is a freak athlete with a high motor...the spider fly moves effortlessly with tremendous length, he will be a lockdown pac 12 defender...he is only 16 years old & is coltish in appearance, he will become an absolute beast in coach christopher's world class s&c program...juhwan's perimeter shot is inconsistent at this time, he falls back (not vertical) a bit when shooting the 3 pointer, coach webster will definitely coach him up on his form

*****jemarl baker is draining 3 pointers a couple of feet behind the college 3 point line, he literally has nba range right ******* now...i got goosebumps watching him stroke one moneyball 3 pointer after another, his shooting form is steph like with elevation & balance along with a consistent release point...cal fans are gonna love watching jemarl let it fly, the ball soars thru the haas airspace with a perfect arc before softly dropping thru the rim...physically baker is not ready to defend elite pac 12 2s like tyler dorsey of oregon & allonzo trier of arizona as he would be abused at the point of attack with his skinny frame in the bears man on man d scheme, gaining strength along with good weight will be a priority in baker's development into an all pac 12 player/all american candidate

at 6:00 pm juhwan & jemarl along with their parents & families, the cal staff (including roberta martin) head out to catch golf carts aka the uber helicopter up to memorial stadium for the 7:30 pm kick off...coach martin comes over to ask what's up but i know he's only probably doing it because roberta told him to be nice to me for a change

yeah, the california golden bears were dead last in the pac 12 in free throws so the shockster stayed behind to shoot more free throws in an empty haas pavilion with the basketball echoing on the floor, not ever gonna be outworked that's for sure...haas pavilion is my palace, where is your palace?

couple of tidbits:

*****there is a program awareness/point of emphasis that the offense "needs to run thru ivan" this season, lob/entry passes to all the bigs including kam & the king should be more common this season than the unicorn sightings last season

*****jabari bird has had a "tremendous summer" & is ready to take the next step forward for an outstanding senior season & show nba scouts he got a motor that don't turn off

*****charlie moore is "tough", "moves like a waterbug", "an absolute game changer" & is "shifty with amazing changes in direction" with a high basketball iq...keep hearing comparisons to tyler ulis

*****marcus lee is "a tremendous addition" to the program with his kentucky work ethic, he's making young ivee a better player

cal's all the way up class (2017)#

yeah jermarl baker wuz a mcdonalds all american verbal commit (later flipped to kentucky, arizona & wake forest) & frenchman olivier sarr wuz a silent commit (later flipped to wake forest & kentucky), dumb azzs will repeat their uninformed false narrative that coach martin left the cupboard empty but the reality is that we wuz reloading in berkeley with the nation's #1 class with kentucky transfer marcus lee, the porter brothers (michael porter jr wuz the #1 ranked player in the 2017 class) along with jemarl & olivier, none of these guys wanted to play for wyking

jemarl's shooting stroke is 100% poetry, it's got pure shooting mechanics & flow better than anybody on the bears roster since cal's monster class & now he's in the transfer portal with 1 year of remaining eligibility

dumb ***** (easy to spot, they intentionally misspell cuonzo's name like a racist) will tell u baker never reached his potential but they fail to realize that if coach martin & his team (which includes me as the director of recruiting/gameday energy, that's why i wuz shooting baskets alone on the opposite end of haas on his official visit) had stayed the course jemarl would've balled out in berkeley & imho been an all american

jemarl's development has been hindered by a series of injuries (note my comment above re: his "skinny frame"), coach nicodemus christopher (who believes in the value of yoga/meditation unlike football s&c coach brian johnson, our yoga battles with jaylen brown wuz epic ) would've gotten his body nba strong/flexible like he did with jaylen, the bird & t-wall

jermarl baker is the real deal & if u ask him where he live, he's gonna point to the hills

california golden bears spring practice #10:

the offense wuz physically manhandled today by the defense with almost zero operational room in space for the running backs (jaydn ott held out & ashton stredick getting the most reps but coming off an injury) in the run game & the quarterbacks under duress in the passing game, this wuz 100% a mismatch

basically a repeat of the 2022 season except the d is faster & plays with more violence now

this can all be directly attributed to cal's monster offensive line which is missing cindo 1000% right now but which also needs the most important recruit of the coach wilcox era in this weekend's official visitor in cam'ron johnson, he is the UNICORN that can turn this **** around

any discussion of the cal football program that is not centered on the o-line room is an absolute waste of time

coach madsen is targeting shooters & scorers in rebuilding the roster, his #1 target at guard is explosive/dynamic jalen cone who is a portal transfer from northern arizona university that is projected to take an official visit to berkeley this month

jalen averaged 17.6 ppg with a lethal 40.0% on 3 pointers & 86.2% on free throws, as a true freshman at virginia tech the walkertown north carolina native shot an unreal 45.7% on 3 pointers

as a guest of my golf buddy mr silverleaf sun angel (runs the asu nil program) the shockster wuz on the floor last november watching the jacks play the sun devils in tempe, cone is a +1 athlete that wuz noticeably quicker than the ncca tournament asu guards...he is not 6', he is kinda a scoring guard in a point guard body's but his ability to create separation is elite

just got off the phone with another golf buddy of mine (my summer golf club is in flagstaff, 7000+ elevation) who is a skyjacks booster, say jalen is a high character academically focused young man that got a beautiful 4 year old daughter ivy faith cone, needless to say nil dollars will be a key factor in this recruitment which has nationwide offers including west coast interest from stanford, santa barbara & san diego state

https://instagr.am/p/CiQw9IqvC0u
jalen cone got the ability/upside to go off for 40+ points on gamedays, for a team that struggled to score 50 points per game last season that's kinda important...nau played utah valley twice last season, coach madsen is very aware of jalen's skillset & potential value to the 2023 california golden bears

get buckets#

the university of california, berkeley=#1 ranked public university in the world (a 50 year decision with the opportunity to build family generational wealth both on & off the court)

Honestly, I think you're right. Yoga would be an awesome addition to S&C. Back in my day, there were two tv shows that showed the advantages of meditative conditioning, "Tribes" and "Kung Fu." A good sports Med doctor could analyze what areas of the body are most likely to get injured and prescribe a target for conditioning, including yogurt, which is what my dad called yoga when he was in heart surgery rehab. It helped him immensely.
"Just win, baby."

Can't remember ever seeing one unit that was so much worse than all the other units like that (2022 season). Obvious focus.
