wut's not clear is what's the agenda for the current no vote by north carolina state, unlike the other 3 no votes they are not being targeted by the p2 (sec & big 10) for an invitation

b&g, the acc doctrine requires 75% yes votes from the prezs to extend invitations to calford

need 1 more yes vote or a no vote school (or two) to give notice of withdrawal from the acc

Shocky, any word on how Jaedon Roberts is doing in his switch from D-line to O-line?

My sense is that he could eventually be a very good guard, but what I'm not sure is, how long does he need to get basically up to speed and how long to get close to his potential (the latter would be a year+, I figure).

big c, jaedon is a hard working team player learning a new position, right now he's not in the o-line room's 3 deep

fed ex st jude 3rd round tournament update:

max homa with non eventful 8 pars to start the round, then en fuego 5 birdies while attacking the next 7 holes before birdies putts on the last 3 holes burning the lips enroute to a 5 under par 65 tied for 3rd...max will play in the 2nd to last group with tommy fleetwood tomorrow

putting off the green kinda like shocky with the linksy texas wedge for an eagle 3 on the par 5 16th hole only to miss a 4 foot par putt on the next hole, colin morikawa with a 3 under part 67 tied for 12th

continuing his improved putting since switching to the long broomstick before the scottish open, byeong hun an with a 2 under par 68 & tied for 16th...ben is driving the ball long (2nd this week with a deep 324 yards average) & straight and is #1 this week statistically thus far in strokes gained off the tee

the cal bears also got 3 guys in next week's us amateur at cherry hills (not too far from my daughter shay's denver law school) and coore & crenshaw's magnificent colorado golf club in parker: sampson zheng, aaron du & tony chen

the magic of cal golf (is not reliant upon conference affiliations)#

nategrate, there r a lotta kinda depresso posters here that don't seem to care about the actual playing of cal football that would probably benefit from a yoga/meditation practice

along with dinner at buck & cutter (the steaks r quite good just not dominick's fantastic, is it normal to wanna eat a healthy desert at whole foods?) just saw oppenheimer which seems to suggest that berkeley intellectualism comes with a sorta sad acceptance of life...why can't some people hear the music, don't they got a favorite song or something?

odonto, that's very interesting, wut r the roster numbers/names of the players that r not running disciplined routes?

strykur, hear wut ur saying & wonder too wut's gonna be the role of tight ends in coach plough's room during the 2023 season?

the tight end room has seen an almost 100% flop & flip turnover since last season:

gone:
andy alfieri: now in coach at's running back room
jermaine terry: transfer to oregon state
elijah mojarro: transfer to nevada
keleki latu: transfer to nevada
nick alftin: grad transfer in portal, no new home
jake muller: football retirement, will earn berkeley degree

newcomers:
jack endries: best player in the room, acrobatic 1 handed catches with a non stop blocking motor
asher alberding: most physical trench blocking te with a high football iq (dad is a texas hs coach)
jt byrne: scott futija's carmel protege gotta get healthy, consummate team player
ben marshall: mr shoney's is the only +1 athlete in the te room during the wilcox era, unlimited upside
jeffrey johnson: 6'5" 250 lbs walk on is making a move

They need 75% according to their bylaws so at 15 teams that is 12 yes votes needed and 4 can block.

If 2 teams leave they will be at 13, so then 10 yes votes would be needed and 4 would still be needed to block. However 2 of the current no votes would have left. So instead of 11-4 it would be 11-2 and we would be in,

Comment was based on the video above. It gave every appearance that the TEs running the short curl routes were in slow motion. Seems to me with the limited #s of practices and reps that are shared that at this stage the routes should be run with vigor and full on speed.

Who knows what the scenario was there. Maybe it was footwork drills for the qbs. To try and dissect a video for which you have no context makes little sense, I think.

cal's monster offensive line update: brayden rohme

interesting to hear the trench warriors take last season's criticism personally & also that guys are asked to come to the front of the o-line room and share their family backgrounds, hobbies, etc.

gotta be honest with u, it's pretty easy to root for the unsung tight knit guys in the o-line room, that fact that r invested/bonded & luv each other is not surprising at all

My apologies if this has already been asked, but if 2 teams do leave, do the incentives of the remaining teams change? (Would a previous yes vote be more inclined to vote no?) Or, with the departure of two teams, would the ACC need us even more at that point?
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
ducky, conventional thinking is that if the acc lost a current school (or two or three) that there would be significant incentivation for the remaining schools to vote yes for calford invitations as there are lessons learned from the pac 12 demise as schools like san diego state & smu should've been offered immediately when usc & ucla bolted for the big 10...there's some safety in numbers

but that's also a factor for some of the current acc no votes, they are interested in breaking the acc gor & are leveraging their no expansion votes to destabilize the conference into concessions such as unequal revenue sharing

there's also sentiment among the no voters that if notre dame (which is not an acc member, they got a football/baskerball scheduling alliance) wants calford, then they need to join the acc in exchange for yes vote(s)...but notre dame is never gonna join the acc or big 10 in the foreseeable future with their lucrative independent nbc deal

Though if, say, FSU and Clemson leave and Notre Dame still values their football independence they would have more reason to support additional members to the remaining ACC . . . because if the ACC goes belly-up they are probably going to have to join a conference in football for the sake of their other sports.

I believe Notre Dame is an actual member for basketball and just has a scheduling arrangement for football. Which is why they get a vote. Regardless if anything would force ND into a conference it would be the breakup of the ACC as a conference. ND loves its independence but could find scheduling to become a problem if the ACC breaks up. The B1G is already contemplating a 10 game conference schedule. The same could occur if the scraps of the ACC head to the Big 12. If FSU and Clemson head to the SEC that league has already said it would go to a 9 game conference schedule. Conventional wisdom suggests if the ACC dissolves most of the current members end up in other conferences. Perhaps not as full share members but ultimately they would.

But as things stand now Notre Dame will stay independent. But by 2030 that may be nearly impossible.
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
sycasey, there will always be conferences that will welcome the opportunity to welcome notre dame non revenue sports, there is a zero chance imo that notre dame will join any conference because their administration is worried about the domers baseball program conference affiliation...only a dumb azz like knowlton is prioritizing quidditch & ice hockey over football & basketball not really financially understanding that their existence is contingent upon success in the revenue sports

nd football revenues are driving this deal, the nbc deal is worth a hundred million dollars plus & sharing those revenues within a conference structure is not in the cards...to the irish's credit they mostly recruit high gpa true student athletes like calford & are supportive of our entries into the acc

cal's monster offensive line: practice #10

really fun listen to all 3 quarterbacks competing for the bears starting qb role vs north texas...3 very different personalities but all good teammates

but the big story at today's key evaluation scrimmage (refs, markers, coaches in the press box, etc.) wuz cal's monster offensive line which had their most domineering performance of the 2023 fall camp...as ben finley notes there wuz an emphasis today not on passing but running the ball successfully with physiciality

big run of the scrimmage wuz ashton stredick's 37 yard scamper...yeah shocky has been touting ashton as the future of cal football forever, he just needs the rock to create the magic

pound for ground (r u gonna ride with us?)#

Here were my observations from today while chasing my 2 girls all over the west side of the stadium. No organization to them yet but they are in sequence:

Griselle with an excellent catch over the middle for 20+ yards from 15
Multiple offensive penalties fall start and delay of game

16. Found a hole in the cover 2 and did the same thing on the subsequent play

Run d stout on almost every play, stay in gaps

Finley with a great completion down to the one dB having trouble looking back to the ball in man

31 has got some quick feet

Great break up by 3 after a pi call on play before

Jackson is quicker than anyone else on the field

83 looks good
Jet with good carry not much room
Hobbled off the field a couple plays later back a few series later

80 with an excellent route and sky for a 30 yard pick up 15 nearly overthrew

11 returning blocked fg

Finley eluded blitz and ran up the middle for td

Jackson with a beautiful floating pass down the west sidline. Got receiver in stride. Td run on next play

15 great pass to 84 over the middle well covered
Nearly picked off on next pass

31 is clearly the best back of the day.

15 beautiful pass for the Td splitting the safety and corner. Cover 2 again

Finley was a great scramble and then comes up limping near the end of practice

I think a more experienced fan might have a better read. Mendoza has the best arm but not great pocket awareness. Finley looks like a game manager calm but not the strongest thrower. Jackson is quick and has a good arm but his drives petered out more often than the others. If the online looks like last year we might have to have Jackson back there to run away from pressure…

He's the best athlete out of the bunch and given the lack of OL protection could be a game-changer if he can improve his grasp of what Spav wants to run, along with the RB stable.

fellow haas biz ad major colin morikawa doing the math calculations/projections with the pga tour staff to ascertain wut it's gone take to win the fed ex championship, he's not a dumb azz like the con artist...colin shoots a 68 this afternoon to finish tied for 13th, he needs another strong tournament next week in chicago to punch his tix to the finals in atlanta while simultaneously solidifying his season long goal of making the usa team for the late september ryder cup matches in italy

confirmed ryder cup usa team member got 2 double bogeys late in the final round on the 12th & 14th holes (2 pars would've put him in the playoff with glover & cantlay) but max homa still shot a 70 & finished tied for 6th at 11 under par...yeah max, lacey saw taylor swift last week in la & homa pretended he knew the swifty songs or something, here's the songlist

byeong hun an with a up & down 72 & is now 38th in the fed ex standings, he needs a strong bmw championship to move into the top 30 in order to move into the finals in atlanta...congrats to ben for finishing in the pga's tour top 50 which guarantees him spots in the 8 signature tournaments in 2024
