wut is the most exciting news for 2024 other than heisman candidate jaydn ott returning to berkeley for his final year of collegiate football?

the above article wuz sent to me by monster reader goldengirl#1 who is a worldwide regarded culinary critic with multiple cook books ghostwritten (with nda's of course) before she later became the head golf professional at the dormie club near the beautiful sleepy hamlet of pinehurst

wut does the exciting news mean?

this means shocky on the friday before the wake forest game in winston-salem is gonna host another FREE tailgate party at the BUC-EE'S in florence south carolina!!!

look shocky's last tailgate outside of dallas on the drive to shreveport for the independence bowl wuz in retrospect a ****show but no worries now cuz he got his **** together this time

future chancellor richard lyons is already committed to be the guest speaker & he will be formally announcing his appointment of andrew mcgraw as the athletic director at this truly EPIC once in a lifetime event which will also include doms working the ponytail dance/cheer moves with the wake forest dance team along with the cal band

my moms (a berkeley grad) wuz poor as **** from a 2nd generation immigrant family growing up in san francisco, she never went to any sporting events during college because they never had a single disposable dollar so she did fun FREE things like walking on ocean beach with the family doggy

fast forward to now, berkeley got a record number of 1st generation college students from socioeconomicly disadvantaged families (which shocky 100% supports, the redistribution of wealth in the united states thru elite educational opportunities to build generational wealth vs governmental handouts) that CANNOT afford the current $150 annual student pass (that's a middle class+ luxury)

and so with that being said, this is 100% due to coach madsen LOBBYING for the FREE tixs, markeisha & knowlton had to be pressured to make this happen

mark madsen gets it, luv this guy

so the big questions on a go forward basis are will the FREE basketball tixs be extended for the rest of the season (the final 4 games after the upcoming 3 FREE games) & the 2024/25 season?

and when will coach wilcox make similar LOBBYING efforts on behalf of cal football for the inaugural 2024 acc season?...fully expecting andrew mcgraw to lead the marketing efforts to get this done...cap

monster analysis of cal special teams:

note: the following evaluation is based on multiple sources & my personal observations:

*****ryan longwell is a paid special teams consultant that lives 3000 miles away from berkeley that shows up around once a month, his personality is such that he is not really nurturing/encouraging in his coaching style which is kinda mind boggling from someone who is a scratch golfer who understands the mental fragility of golf swings/kicking motions

*****the kicking during the longwell era other than mateen bhaghani have been been beyond breaking bad with his unreal loyalty to the 3 iron trajectory dario longhetto which cost the bears multiple games in every season of his cal career

*****the punting during the longwell era has been somewhere north of mediocre with inconsistent distance & hang time

*****mateen bhaghani wuz a perfect 27 of 27 on extra points & 8 of 9 on field goals, he wuz not given any opportunities to kick any over 50 yards...he is now the ucla kicker, his 2024 big 10 season will be interesting to track

*****mateen bhaghani wuz given the assignment to kick off in only one game, his pregame instructions were to "kick the ball high & to the right" which wuz not practiced during the week...the dumb azzs will tell you he failed to kick the ball deep & lacks leg strength based upon this

*****it wuz a major 2024 recruiting miss & poor player evaluation of personnel by the staff not to offer all american punter kanyon floyd who will be heading to hometown asu with a full scholly...kanyon would've given the bears a potential 4 year all acc punter who with his current 4.73 gpa would've been a strong candidate to gain acceptance into the haas biz school

*****coach so'oto is nowhere in sight during special teams pregame warm ups (presumably vic is with the outside linebackers room), anyalyst zack tinker handles the warm ups

*****tinker preps during the week the punting & kick off coverage & return gameplans

*****the usc special teams play wuz terrible under coach so'oto (coach wilcox referenced his "experience" when he assigned the room to vic)

*****no team fair catches punts more than cal, the decision to have sure handed jeremiah hunter as the punt returner despite lacking lateral explosiveness to make the 1st tacklers miss is mind boggling

*****kickoff returns other than the epic jaydn ott touchdown return in the rose bowl have been non existent

*****shocky bumped into the last special teams coach charlie ragle & then recently hired bill musgrave in february of 2021 outside of the raucous world famous 16th hole of the phoenix open, both guys were absolutely **** faced & mostly incoherent during our 5 minute conversation...the person with me noted that both of them had the bulbous red noses of those with major drinking problems

*****former special teams analyst michael barton is "a terrible communicator"

special teams bottom line: cal has fielded the worst special teams units in college football during the coach wilcox era, a full time special teams coach needs to be hired as the bears can no longer afford the luxury of 2 defensive back coaches
incoming north carolina portal transfer scholly kicker ryan coe wuz injured during the 2nd game of the tar heels 2023 season & lost his job to noah burnette who made a remarkable 18 out of 19 field goals

kicker injuries, like golfer injuries, are a tricky deal...the timing & possibility of reinjury are real challenges

with coe now on campus & not a 100% guarantee for 2024, consultant ryan longwell is hedging his bets by bringing in a scholly punter who can also handle kicking if necessary

ryan longwell (or anybody on the staff including vic so'oto or marshall cherrington) has NOT reached out to asu signee (fully scholly) 4.73 gpa all american punter kanyon floyd in months

special teams are often the deciding factor in close games#

bobby is NOT a dumb azz, he got a 3.72 gpa

and yeah engstler gotta lotta power in his kicking motion, it's possible he will be able to generate additional distance & hang time by developing a higher leg follow thru (right now his punting motion stops slightly above the belt, see video below, yoga would improve that quick twitch flexibility) kinda like ray guy or bryan anger

bluehen, agree with ur take with the caveat that high gpa student athletes attending elite academic institutions such as cal, stanford, duke, vanderbilt, northwestern etc. are gonna be significantly less likely to follow their coaches to a truck stop academic skool & a kinda worthless degree

So cut the men's sports that lose money and the most costly women's sports doing that would allow. Easy fix. Oh that's right, the administration has determined doing that will cost more in terms of lost academic donations than they pay in subsidies by keeping them. It's not like this has anything to do with football or men's basketball.
Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.

To be in the Top 1% of all NIL collectives we only need around 10% of alumni to give $300 per year. Please help spread the word. "If we don't broaden this base we're dead." - Sebastabear

This is why spending our political capital on trying to block UCLA from making more money was such a horrible decision. The Regents were never going to think forcing less money and bigger deficits is a good idea. Even asking for calimony just invites scrutiny (welcome IMO). What we needed was to figure out how UC as a whole can be better off, with UCLA already with an invite to the B1G working to get one for Cal (and Stanford) too.

I am happy with the ACC for the revenue sports but a day of reckoning is coming for the non/revenue sports.

the financial reality for the cal athletic department is significantly less revenues in the future primarily from declining media rights revenues & donations to the athletic department due to the growth of nil fundraising & the aging (and fatigued) berkeley donor community which is not gaining any traction (building a pipeline) with younger future megadonors...the fake berkeley campus fundraising numbers are not dollars that are actually collected, ok?

so whether it be the con artist & his evil as **** confidante jennifer simon-o'neil continuing their bureaucratic wayward lack of vision or new leadership such as andrew mcgraw as the next athletic director, cal will no longer be able to field 30+ teams (many of them underperforming for years) & will need to cut teams/reduce expenses

It's not Knowlton's decision to cut sports. He could recommend it, like Sandy did and was overruled. (I'm NOT defending Knowlton here…). Christ has already said cutting sports is not going to happen on her watch. This is the chancellor's final call, and we all know it has no chance of happening until there's a new chancellor.

Why do you repetitively post the same bogus claim? I mean when the chancellor has gone on record saying it won't happen, do expect that the Athletic Director can overrule that?

Obviously this is the chancellor's problem. She has already spoken. It's her final responsibility. And I'm sure she's become quite aware of the financial challenges this past year.
You really think she's not aware?

She hired a yes man. That's all he is. She's not going to budge and she's going to ride off into the sunset and let the next chancellor deal with it. I disagree with that.

You however are misplacing blame. The buck (or lack of them) stops at her desk. He's just a figure head. The problem is that Cal has never allowed any athletic director that kind of autonomy.

Jim Knowlton is paid 2-3 times more than Carol Christ. Athletics administration is his job. He has thrown away $millions on hiring, extending then firing Fox, giving Wilcox a 6 year $30 million extension despite a losing record, ignoring swimmers, giving McKeever a huge $5 million contract, then spending $millions investigating McKeever, then getting sued by McKeever and the swimmers… and after trashing our revenue sports providing zero useful guidance to Carol Christ on the budget issues or on conference realignment other than setting up a meeting with the Mountain West Conference near his home in Colorado Springs.

That said, Carol Christ hired the idiot and then gave him an 8 year extension so it is all on her. I am admittedly triggered by people defending him.

there's gonna be significantly less revenues for the athletic department in the forseeable future & that's why knowlton's decision in fiscal year 2022 to secretly (required multiple public information requests by me before cfo tom lowry finally shared the details of the debt service with me) borrow $11,000,000 wuz financial malpractice...apologists will argue that borrowing money from the central campus is a standard operating mechanism, these are not ordinary times & the "good ol' days" of collegiate athletics (for schools not already in the sec or big 10) are firmly in the rearview mirror

the financial reality for the cal athletic department is significantly less revenues in the future primarily from declining media rights revenues & donations to the athletic department due to the growth of nil fundraising & the aging (and fatigued) berkeley donor community which is not gaining any traction (building a pipeline) with younger future megadonors...the fake berkeley campus fundraising numbers are not dollars that are actually collected, ok?

so whether it be the con artist & his evil as **** confidante jennifer simon-o'neil continuing their bureaucratic wayward lack of vision or new leadership such as andrew mcgraw as the next athletic director, cal will no longer be able to field 30+ teams (many of them underperforming for years) & will need to cut teams/reduce expenses

the next athletic director will need to quickly work within title ix constraints in revamping the currently bloated athletic department with the following teams in a new much more streamlined operation that competes for championships:

1. football
2. men's basketball
3. men's swimming & diving
4. men's water polo
5. men's golf
6. men's tennis
7. women's basketball
8. softball
9. women's soccer
10. women's swimming & diving
11. women's water polo
12. women's volleyball
13. women's golf
14. women's tennis
15. women's rowing

baseball, men's soccer, women's lacrosse and field hockey and both gymnastics and track & field (including cross country) programs would be terminated with current schollys honored thru graduation...women's beach volleyball would be discontinued with scholly transfers offered to women's volleyball...men's rugby & men's rowing would become club sports, fully expect jack clark to go nuclear on this necessary decision in his predictable myopic rage to defend his turf

not biz as usual in berkeley (or the pac 12)#
the knowlton financial plan is to continue borrowing money from the central campus not caring that there will never be future revenue sources for repayment & not cut any teams/rightsize his bloated bureaucracy

the only real thing is the hurt the con artist is gonna inflict upon cal athletics but eventually he's gonna go away in the end

knowlton's empire of dirt (upon his liar's chair & broken thoughts)#

It's not Knowlton's decision to cut sports. He could recommend it, like Sandy did and was overruled. (I'm NOT defending Knowlton here…). Christ has already said cutting sports is not going to happen on her watch. This is the chancellor's final call, and we all know it has no chance of happening until there's a new chancellor.

Why do you repetitively post the same bogus claim? I mean when the chancellor has gone on record saying it won't happen, do expect that the Athletic Director can overrule that?

I already said I was not defending him. He needed to go some time ago. I blame Christ who is riding off into the sunset. Knowlton just figured out he only needed to tell her what she wanted to hear.

And I can't recall anyone on this site ever defending him..
