2024 san diego open 2nd round update:

starting on the back nine with a bogey 5 on the par 4 10th hole due to a pulled drive into the wet tangled rough, michael kim then played elite golf the rest of the round other than a missed 4 foot birdie putt on the short par 3 8th hole after nearly holing his tee ball for an ace en route to a 68 & is currently tied for 5th at 9 under par and will play in the 2nd to last group tomorrow

max homa lost his temper on the 2nd to last hole with a 3 jack bogey from 15 feet and is at 4 under par & poor greens reader collin morikawa continues to miss putts to the right with an open putter face due to not releasing the putterhead thru impact and missed the cut

Where do you think Hunter lands?

that's not clear at this time, cam

but it won't be washington which is heading towards potentially the biggest season to season collapse in the history of college football as the huskies head into unchartereed 1st season high risk big 10 waters during 2024

jeremiah is in kinda a tuff spot, he's not an elite speedster with nfl speed metrics in the 40 & a lotta elite programs are already set with their 2024 rosters with nil dollars already allocated plus he's under a time crunch to make a decision very soon as he needs to matriculate in order to be eligible for 2024 spring ball

hunter graduated from berkeley in december with a degree in sociology

The way things have played out Hunter's almost certain to be a late round or UDFA guy either way. Hes should just declare now as a Bear and bet on himself to start the clock working towards his second contract. I'm sure he's weighing NIL $ vs Year 1 NFL salary but that's short-sighted IMO.

walter, jeremiah is kinda in the same predicament as craig woodson, a very good college football that lacks the nfl speed metrics in the 40 to create separation/close on the ball to get drafted or realistically make a roster as an udfa...both guys got upside but that will necessitate speedwork development this offseason...complicating matters is that hunter wuz not happy with the 2023 play calling not giving him deeper vertical routes when in reality he couldn't consistently create separation downfield like dumb azz taj or sneaky fast trond
WalterSobchak
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I know we disagree on this but IMO Hunter has NFL speed. The thing for him is speed won't be the reason he makes or sticks on a roster. He has NFL hands, catch radius, and body control. Footwork is the big question mark. He's gonna have to prove himself on route running and technique and make his living primarily 5 to 20 yds from the LOS. If he thinks he's going to be a consistent NFL deep threat he's crazy. That's never gonna happen for him and there's no way to train his way into it or find a perfect school for 1 year that's gonna magically turn him into it.

Agree. If he wants to make the league he will need to learn to run better routes and be ok with that role. And he will need to block his ass off. Much like 49er WR Juaun Jennings.

As a rabid fan but not a student of football, how do you guys determine that a WR doesn't have good footwork from simply watching games in person or on TV? Assuming you don't know the routes they are trying to run vs what they run how do you observe that? I would like to keep my eye out for that in the future.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm not saying he doesn't have good footwork. All I'm saying is I'm not sure he has NFL footwork. I don't know. I can see he has or lacks the other attributes I mention. But IMO footwork, which to me includes "foot speed" plus many other things not necessarily strictly limited to the feet, is the #1 most important thing for the average NFL receiver to have to be successful in a decent career. To be a legitimate star takes other things, often including running speed. Guys like Tyreek Hill and Justin Jefferson have both. They can set up and "beat" guys at the LOS and in and out of breaks, and then run by and away from them too. A guy like Keenan can't really use speed to run by guys but he does so many things on the route that he's consistently open. IMO that's the absolute pinnacle comp for Hunter, but there are many guys not nearly as good as Keenan having solid careers making great money.

There's a great clip from the most recent hard knocks when Tyreek is working back from an ankle injury. He's mic'ed up on the practice field and is talking about how he can run again but still can't get in and out of his breaks like he's used to. Can't remember which episode.

6956 & walter, respect ur opinions but jeremiah don't got nfl speed right now & it's not even close

https://www.nbcsportsboston.com/nfl/new-england-patriots/nfl-combine-40-yard-dash-who-was-the-fastest-in-2023/288590/

reality is that the 2023 cal football program lacked speed at both the wide receiver & defensive back positions, this wuz particularly noticeable watching the bears warm up in shreveport vs the much faster texas tech raiders & reinforced during the game as the cal wrs couldn't create separation & the dbs couldn't close on the ball

the portal additions (which targeted more speed) & blueshirt/high school additions will result in much needed faster units during the 2024 acc inaugural season

and yeah speed also gets u paid in the national football league

SPEED (as measured by 40 times) kills in the game of football#

I'm no expert but you could see Keenan's route running ability from the very first passing line in pre game warmups. At that first game I was wondering what number our big recruit was. As soon as he ran that first slant route you could tell. "Oh, it's that guy".

1) kuangyu chen: arguably the most improved golfer in the nation, tony is yet another example of hard work elite development by walter & assistant coach peter ireland

2) ethan fang: the world class true freshman from plano, huge fan of buc-ee's (the beef chow fun with red bull is his preferred pre round meal)

3) charlie berridge: the 6'5" bomber from westchester county got long levers, mr brambles will be a charter member of shocky's upcoming t-rex yoga studio in yountville

4) ethan chung: the usc transfer es en fuego ahora, fight on with academic integrity in berkeley

5) aaron du: the senior almost qualified in a playoff on monday qualifying for the fortinet pga tournament last september at silverado which wuz won by max homa

this lineup wuz determined by qualifying scores (all rounds are weighted the same), how deep (and highly competitive) is this team?

the nation's #1 player in the 2023 class/tied for 1st in his first college tournament eric lee wuz 8th in qualifying
