ursa, isn't it quite remarkable how often cal, stanford & ivy league (yanni played lacrosse at cornell) grads get "lucky" in their life endeavors?

tony chen (72) & aaron du (77) did not make it out of local qualifying today at ruby ridge

already qualifying for sectional qualifying on june 3rd at lake merced (clever gil hanse restoration, still too many homes/roads on the course's perimeter which detracts from the aesthetics, need to plant more leafy trees along the fence line ala san francisco golf club) is nathan wang after a 71 at la purisma...sampson zheng is exempt from local qualifying & will also compete at sectionals

the 2024 us open is gonna be played on the donald ross masterpiece pinehurst #2 (faithfully restored by coore & crenshaw a couple of years ago) on june 13-16th with max homa & collin morikawa already extended invitations and ben an a near lock for an invitation

Backup at the G5 level. Almost certainly to push our incoming freshman QB for #3, or if the loser of the starting competition transfers, to compete for #2.

2024-25 Student Combo Pass Sale starts today. $125 for FB, MBB plus everything else.
Prevailing thoughts on this? Not sure how many kids buy this. 4000? Does that really add much to the Athletic budget?
I think free admission and a jammed student section at every home FB game is more valuable. When they opened hoop games up for free, it seemed to make a difference in terms of filling up seats.

plus at least 3 times last year, the AD offered free tickets to FB games for certain job categories (first responders, teachers) and when it came down to it, they actually didn't check any credentials and gave tickets to whoever wanted them. This doesn't seem fair to students who shell out $125 for season tics.

I can tell you right now that the Davis game is going to have a pathetic showing.

100%. It doesn't drive enough revenue to matter, and it's completely counterproductive. If you eventually want alums who support Cal athletics, you need to get them interested while they're students. Free tix = more attendance = more interest = more engaged alums. Plus, if you up the number of students at games, you up concessions sales which offsets a decent chunk of the the lost ticket revenue.

This is *less* than it used to cost, isn't it? It's been a long time, but IIRC as a Cal student in the early 1990s I paid $99 just for men's hoops. Football was separate and I don't remember the cost for that.

$125 is a terrible price point. Cal is admitting a lot of "first generation" college students, who probably start out as non-college sports fans and also may come from families with limited means. They really need to come up with more attractively-priced packages. Maybe $10 for football games ($20 for Big Game), $5 for basketball games. Or $45 for all football games; $35 for all basketball games. Or how about just FREE!

shocky went to nooner modern yoga with master teacher anton, not particularly focused (as usual) but great tunes & eye candy (as usual)

then the monster went to the old town chop shop & got his daily 32 oz green drink & an avocado egg sandwich on sourdough with steak added on top for extra protein...yeah shocky smiles at all the lulu lemons

https://instagr.am/p/C4a9PjOOfm2
too nice of a day to just get some work done so shocky goes to nearby papago to hit some balls, the head pro greets yoga boy & tells me that there wuz a tournament in the morning & that the course is absolutely empty...let's ******* go so shocky slings his black maczenie bag over his shoulder & sets off on a 2 and a half hours walking round

but wait, when shocky arrives on the 7th tee there are 5 college girls & their head coach on the tee box, it's the upstate south carolina college women's golf team in town for a tournament...how you do think this played out?...gonna give u 5 bucks if u can guess what happened then, got it?

yeah shocky asks the girls if they do yoga & they all nod and say yes

so then shocks breaks out the so predictable headstand with 25 stomach crunches which gets massive applause from his audience

coach asks me wut i do for a living?

tell him ima "substitute yoga teacher at modern yoga"

not sure he believes me, whatever

then shoski turns to the girls & mock whispers "actually ima male azz stripper"

that gets everybody laughing, this **** is getting live

b&g, if knowlton is still the athletic director when the bears play uc davis on saturday august 31st at a mostly empty memorial stadium then cal football (and other sports) will be gone for good as we know them now

thinking the athletic department can continue to go forward on its current path toward a financial tsunami is simply the end of cal sports on a competitive level

fast forward to now, berkeley got a record number of 1st generation college students from socioeconomicly disadvantaged families (which shocky 100% supports, the redistribution of wealth in the united states thru elite educational opportunities to build generational wealth vs governmental handouts) that CANNOT afford the current $125 annual student pass (that's a middle class+ luxury)
