quarterback coach sterlin gilbert is officially tripping right now 6'4" 210 lbs ohio university grad transfer cj harris from west bloomfield michigan (which is not further afar from 8 mile drive & us open venue oakland hills south course)...pending ncca approvals for medical eligibility extensions, he could potentially get 3 years of remaining eligibility
harris has completed 78 of 147 passes for 829 yards & also rushed for 239 yards during his bobcat career as a mobile running threat...football is a violent game, he would be 2 plays aways this fall from being a starting quarterback in the atlantic athletic conference (the future is unknowable)
cj is not a dumb azz, he already got a masters in management plus wuz national honor society with a 3.75 gpa in high school
let's roll cj, do u wanna have an adventure on the beautifully diverse cosmopolitan left coast in the cali sun while building ur business credentials?

Does Gilbert expect him to compete for QB1, or just fill out the QB room?
100%. It doesn't drive enough revenue to matter, and it's completely counterproductive. If you eventually want alums who support Cal athletics, you need to get them interested while they're students. Free tix = more attendance = more interest = more engaged alums. Plus, if you up the number of students at games, you up concessions sales which offsets a decent chunk of the the lost ticket revenue.udaman1 said:

This is *less* than it used to cost, isn't it? It's been a long time, but IIRC as a Cal student in the early 1990s I paid $99 just for men's hoops. Football was separate and I don't remember the cost for that.udaman1 said:
2024-25 Student Combo Pass Sale starts today. $125 for FB, MBB plus everything else.
Big C said:
$125 is a terrible price point. Cal is admitting a lot of "first generation" college students, who probably start out as non-college sports fans and also may come from families with limited means. They really need to come up with more attractively-priced packages. Maybe $10 for football games ($20 for Big Game), $5 for basketball games. Or $45 for all football games; $35 for all basketball games. Or how about just FREE!

Prevailing thoughts on this? Not sure how many kids buy this. 4000? Does that really add much to the Athletic budget?
I think free admission and a jammed student section at every home FB game is more valuable. When they opened hoop games up for free, it seemed to make a difference in terms of filling up seats.
plus at least 3 times last year, the AD offered free tickets to FB games for certain job categories (first responders, teachers) and when it came down to it, they actually didn't check any credentials and gave tickets to whoever wanted them. This doesn't seem fair to students who shell out $125 for season tics.
I can tell you right now that the Davis game is going to have a pathetic showing.

b&g, if knowlton is still the athletic director when the bears play uc davis on saturday august 31st at a mostly empty memorial stadium then cal football (and other sports) will be gone for good as we know them nowbearsandgiants said:
If Lyons is worth his salt, this summer he will announce free admission to all sports (until capacity) with priority given to those who Knowlton forced to pay, and a $125 concession or ASUC store merch credit for all those who did.
the remarkable decision by markeisha & knowlton to once again try to unsuccessfully sell UNAFAFFORDABLE $125 student passes instead of offering FREE tixs for all students to all football & basketball games is yet another fatal example of them killing the gameday energy & failing to create a pipeline to future season tix holders/donorsShocky1 said:Quote:
my moms (a berkeley grad, 1st generation family college grad) wuz poor as **** from a 1st generation immigrant family growing up in san francisco, she never went to any sporting events during college because they never had a single disposable dollar so she did fun FREE things like walking on ocean beach with the family doggy zuma
fast forward to now, berkeley got a record number of 1st generation college students from socioeconomicly disadvantaged families (which shocky 100% supports, the redistribution of wealth in the united states thru elite educational opportunities to build generational wealth vs governmental handouts) that CANNOT afford the current $125 annual student pass (that's a middle class+ luxury)
yeah stupid people make stupid decisions
love you, moms#
