but wait where's coach wilcox??

you would think after 3 losses this season attributable to kicking woes (a direct function of running off mateen) that the #1 pregame priority for coach would be to watch the bears (and beavers) kickers during the 90 minute early warm ups, wut on planet earth could possibly be more important??

fully expect justin to be on the field at memorial stadium at 11:30 am this saturday morning prior to the 1:00 kickoff against oregon state to check out/keep a first hand pulse on wut has turned out to the difference maker between a 6-1/7-0 and the actual 3-4 record this season

Nope. On one of his earlier 'makes' he missed first in the same manner as at the end of the game. The miss was cancelled due to defensive penalty. You're right that on his short kicks he eases up and tries to punch it. I missed the warm up misses but you are exactly right. Us golfers know this type of short miss stroke. I don't expect Wilcox on the field during pregame kicking warmups. I'll have something to look for though instead of being agitated by the loud music above my head.

back in the day when shocky attended 150+ games (as haas & on the road) in a row usually with taylor (who wuz not having great high school days, dad's solution wuz for us to experience the magic of cal basketball together) my favorite gameday tradition wuz to watch the early 45 minutes warm ups from our floor seats so we could laugh with the players & talk with the coaches re: recruiting updates

and yeah leading the stormin the floor in a MONSTER led sold out haas after EPIC victories wuz pretty ******* FUN too!!

If you want to go with a good football program you have to compete. In case you have not noticed, there have been a steady stream of QBs leaving the Cal program during the Wilcox years, which is typical of all P5 programs. There also has been a steady stream of new QB coaches, and what number Wilcox OC are we on now?

With rare exceptions, college QBs these days consider themselves gladiators for sell to the highest bidder, and you are Don Quixote wasting your breath discussing academics. The funniest line was about class rooms. Most football players now don't even see their professors live or have been in actual class room. They never leave the football building during the day. Take a look at Cal's portal transfers and their certificate degrees - and Cal really is one of the better schools. Most players today will never see the inside of a classroom. I think you need an education on what is really happening with academics in the current era.

How many of the guys that you think JSK loves are going to be here next season? Take off the blue and gold blinders # quarterbacks like o-lines that can block and schools the pay well.

Lots of nuggets in this post. I agree with them. But I am really intrigued by the highlighted sentence. It seems very possible that there will be changes among many staffers after the season. With some of the offensive staff being the more likely changes.

wifey, luv u my fellow neighboring 50 yard line seatmate but ur hot take is not even close to factually accurate in today's collegiate recruiting world...and ur comment about "players not seeing the inside of classrooms" is particularly misinformed & not even remotely applicable to berkeley...u would know this if u spoke to as many current bears as shocky & wuz aware of their demanding course workloads in the undergraduate programs (agreed the grad cert is a different academic time deal)

fun fact: did u know jks gotta 3.75 gpa which is a half point higher than the average 5 star qb prospect??

First, I said most players don't see the classroom or their profs live, and I stand by that comment. You stated without any authority, that I was misinformed. Here are my sources:

The various articles or tapes om BI, where undergrad Cal portal transfers say until Cal they had never seen their professor live.
My tour off the FSU athletic facilities where their Asst. AD showed us where the players took their classes (all on computer) in the football team facilities.

The geographic expansion of the conferences, as well as the expanded schedules that have come with the overall growth of college sports basically means many football players can't keep up with class work on a live basis.

If it was almost all on-line free C-19 it has become way more so as Covid years showed that players really didn't need to go to the classroom. In fact, it is more valuable to do you on-line work with your tutor, and even that has its limitation, as in most SEC schools, you can't do that

I'm willing to admit that football players have to try to go to classes that have labs or in other unique situations, or that in non P4 schools things may be different. But I believe you need to do some greater due diligence on how academic has been moved aside in the current environment. Particularly now that players are getting paid - it is competitive world that rewards superior athletic performance, not superior academic performance, with very few exceptions (maybe Cal, Furd, Duke)

Second, as for Cal grad students: Tell me how many live classes those football player in certificate programs attended? Let's start with Jack Plummer ? Did you know there is a reason these programs are called "on-line certificate programs" in all the Cal websites?

Third, I'm more than willing to go though where the top rated QB go to college if you want to play the game" they are coming for an education" game. That may be different for some other positions, but QBs are different and it all about their football career. Don't believe me, ask any P4 head coach (you can start with Wilcox). They don't start getting reps quickly, they most likely are out into the Portal. You may think this has nothing to do with the demanding Berkeley course work, as you put it, but it most certainly does from a recruiting and retention standpoint. Fernando was a lightly recruited two star that fell into Cal's lap. Goff fell into Cal's lap due to JT and being a legacy. But let's discuss right now. Only one of the top 25 2024 ESPN ranked duel threat QBs went to what you would consider a good academic school, UCLA (number 19) (I'm assuming you think UCLA makes that fit). Only one in the top 25 of pro style QBs made it to an academic oriented school, Stanford (number 11). Maybe two if you include Notre Dame on your academic generational wealth school list (I would). And all the guys were all four stars. And in Stanford's case, they had been getting 3 stars for some time as things soured under Shaw), and their 2025 guy will also be a 3 star. Point being, high school QBs today are not making decisions the way they used to. Now it is about NIL money and strength of football program. And it is not just a GPA thing. The kid that committed to Alabama (No. 3) had a 4.08 GPA at Carlsbad High School. Hell even the number 1 ranked QB had a 3.5 GPA and went to Florida, no. 2 went to Nebraska and had a 3.93, and I could go on. The kid that went to Georgia (no. 10) had a 3.75 GPA. Fun fact, you can actually look this stuff up on the internet. We will see how 2025 plays out, but absent Cal hiring the quarterback whistler, the probability JSK becomes a Bear seems remote because that isn't how these quarterback recruits think.

wifeisafurd, your comments above -- which I am not doubting in the least -- are rather disconcerting: To be honest, it was never like "The tight end? He's my lab partner in Chem 1." But it seemed like less of a stretch of the imagination to believe that the players are students at our alma mater, just like we were.

But as college football becomes more and more like NFL Lite, with players who are here because we're the best cash offer, and "hype men" from the local sports teams telling us what and when to cheer, how much can fans in an NFL market really have their heart in the "college" game?

wifey, the monster realizes ur a skilled barrister (dumb azzs don't evah live in bel air) by training experienced in the war of the words & legal tussles but keep in mind shocky got an online law degree from the new hampshire university of technology with a speciality in imminent domain

1) while zoom educations wuz prevalent during covid (former qb1 jack plummer's biological dad tole me that his son had never stepped foot on campus outside of memorial stadium & that he spent around an hour a day of work with the grad cert program) that's not the case anymore in berkeley...undergrads in berkeley are attending classes & working as hard as we did back in the day & let's be real here, achieving a berkeley diploma is no ******* joke & is arguably harder to achieve than our peers at stanford & the ivy leagues

2) agreed that the cert program admissions & workloads are significantly less rigorous than the undergraduate programs at the #1 ranked public university in the world...and that's why my monitoring of incoming gpas shows that grad portal transfer gpas are not nearly as high as the gpas of incoming high school freshmen...the effort put in differs from dumb azzs like washington grad transfer taj davis who didn't do **** & wuz dismissed from the program prior to the independence bowl to studious disciplined academic achievement by stanford grad transfer barrett miller...but keep in mind the grad portal transfers are earning a certificate while undergrads are earning a diploma

3) have you evah spoken to jared's dad jerry (former cal baseball player & berkeley grad) re: his 3.8 gpa son's recruitment like shocky??...if not, then ima probably way more knowledgable about this stinson beach high school grads recruitment on his pathway to berkeley, ok?...academics wuz the TOP priority, if stanford had extended an actionable offer it would've been interesting, wildly affluent high socioeconomic marinites (at one point the highest income county in california) are not gonna send their children to alabama because they wuz in the national championship game or something even in their son gets pre arranged scheduled trim on his official visits to football factories in the deep south

agreed that high school qbs along with special teamers got the highest gpas on planet earth, fernando mendoza got a 4.0 gpa at biscayne bay high school & ej caminong gotta 3.5 gpa in the drizzly azz northwest

bottom line, cal is assembling a high gpa high upside 2025 class that's not being affected by the 9 points between reality and 6-1/7-0...it's the usual panic at the disco crowd that doesn't actually go to games that's freaking out along with the non berkeley grads promoting cal giving up football but that's ok, the monster is a judgement free safe zone for everybody (he/she/it)

in each of the last 2 games derek wilkins has made a pivotal explosive tackle for loss behind the line of scrimmage, it's awesome how when wilkins returns to the sidelines how he's crowd mobbed by his jubilant teammates

3) have you evah spoken to jared's dad jerry (former cal baseball player & berkeley grad) re: his 3.8 gpa son's recruitment like shocky??...if not, then ima probably way more knowledgable about this stinson beach high school grads recruitment on his pathway to berkeley, ok?...academics wuz the TOP priority, if stanford had extended an actionable offer it would've been interesting, wildly affluent high socioeconomic marinites (at one point the highest income county in california) are not gonna send their children to alabama because they wuz in the national championship game or something even in their son gets pre arranged scheduled trim on his official visits to football factories in the deep south

agreed that high school qbs along with special teamers got the highest gpas on planet earth, fernando mendoza got a 4.0 gpa at biscayne bay high school & ej caminong gotta 3.5 gpa in the drizzly azz northwest

and that's why spavital & cherrington's decision to bring in an undersized 2.8 gpa sam jackson wuz a beyond breaking bad decision & destined for failure...rooting for the quiet, soft spoken sam to earn his collegiate degree at auburn after a rough childhood which includes his dad in prison

5) high gpa ELITE quarterbacks tend to prioritize nfl development, a clear path to becoming qb1 as quickly as possible (they are very aware of the dangers of getting stockpiled at football factories), market rate competitive nil compensation & warmer weather/proximity to home along with a preference for strong academic institutions

6) alex, u charge up & down memorial stadium's step multiples times every game, u need a new doc or something...would love tho to play rhcc with marie with u as a 18 hole non paid cart caddie/greens reading specialist, rolling hills is a special design since the david mclay kidd renovation work & the firmest playing surfaces in orange county which is a beautiful thing for links inspired golf before a good night's sleep after a nitecap at the bar at shocky's beloved montage in laguna beach

bottom line, cal is assembling a high gpa high upside 2025 class that's not being affected by the 9 points between reality and 6-1/7-0...it's the usual panic at the disco crowd that doesn't actually go to games that's freaking out along with the non berkeley grads promoting cal giving up football but that's ok, the monster is a judgement free safe zone for everybody (he/she/it)

jaydn ott update: there is ZERO chance that #1 is gonna return for another season of collegiate football, he is closing in on a berkeley degree in 3 years plus summer schools

and with that being said bloesch (with aristotle not saying ****) is wasting his talents by recklessly putting him in harm's way by intentionally running him into telephone poles instead of dialing up PITCHOUTS on the edges in open space where the playmaker can make moves and be OFF TO THE RACES

almost half of javid best's yardage wuz on PITCHOUTS often with cataclysmic violent cutback BLOCKS on the edge defender by nyan boateng in motion moving towards the center of the field...apparently burl & wilcox don't wanna speak up either re: PITCHOUTS, their track records (along with at) in getting offensive bears selected on NFL draft days speaks for itself

before the season espn (which consults with nfl scouts/organizations) had ott as the #1 running back to be selected in the 2025 draft, bloesch's dangerously reckless playcalling has contributed to jaydn's injured jr season & also poor rushing totals

last season the worst call of the season of a bloesch designed play that spav dialed up wuz sending a 165 lb javian directly into a violent collision with a washington defensive tackle literally twice his weight that resulted in a serious concussion

the year prior in colorado shocky sat next to jack plummer's biological dad in boulder who wuz ready to murder the cal staff after his son wuz stopped on a quarterback sneak despite heavily bandaged ribs that made it difficult to breathe during the week, plummer sr is a big azz man & wuz ready to knock the **** outta billy m after that call

reality is that until wilcox gets involved in the playcalling, cal's rushing is gonna be anemic with bloesch's uncreative predictable 1980s texas high school smashmouth playcalling which is contributing not only to running backs getting injured but also the bears losing football games because of a lack of offensive scoring

2024 zozo pga tournament in japan: 1st round update

fun fact: the reason collin is falling on his azz after this shot is because on the par 5 18th hole he's tryna to hit a snapping turtle hook shot (instead of his iconic fade) around the trees which requires the full release of the hands & hips which spun him around like a bottle top but his 2nd shot here found the center of the fairway

after a double bogey 7 on the par 5 6th hole after not carrying his drive over the lake jealously guarding the inside corner of the dogleg right, the world's #4 ranked player collin morikawa battled back for a solid 69 & is tied for 35th...collin is time/body wise far east clocked in having arrived last week with kat for sightseeing & japanese culinary adventures

still kinda fighting some crooked azz driving (only 4 outta 13 fairways in regulation) the world's #27 ranked player max homa shot a 73 & is tied for 70th in the 78 player field but the sun will rise tomorrow morning

one thing that's not in translation is that there are a lotta DODGERS fans like max & collin in tokyo!!

. I don't see our current offense being able to run this type of play: no fullback, no fire out blocking. Maybe there is a different scheme that results in the same type of thing but in the RPO I don't know. Just pitching the ball out doesn't look like it will work. Still agree that getting Ott and Jet out in space is better than running them up the middle where there are few gaps for them to run to.
