not so fun fact: a butterfly can get get THE JET!!!! running free on the edges in open space more often that coach bloesch's continued failure to dial up PITCHOUTS which is costing jaydn ott millions of dollars in the national football league 2025 draft

Shocky,we ran wide repeatedly vs OSU particularly early in the game and were outflanked over and over. Our run blocking continues to be poor and the lack of running game hurts us in the red zone.

Nevertheless it was a great win vs OSU.

I'll note that these were largely sweeps and not pitchouts, though. Still it's a fair point; I'm not sure the blocking would be any better on a pitch.

nv & sycasey, legendary future hall of fame defensive coordinator marv lewis lives in north scottsdale too & recently tole me that PITCHOUTS are the quickest way to get a ball to a running back on the edges in open space

marv also tole me that PITCHOUTS are most effective when utilized with elite running backs with SPEED that can make the outside edge defender miss & then they're OFF TO THE RACES!!

reality is that ron gould dialed up PITCHOUTS for his 10 national football league running backs, right now mike bloesch has dialed up ZERO PITCHOUTS & he's costing jaydn ott millions of dollars in the 2025 nfl draft

honestly ott could probably sue wilcox, bloesch & thompson for coaching malpractice, it's no coincidence that his INJURIES & lack of rushing yardage can be attributed to the predictable & dangerous play calls directly into telephone poles

the counterargument is that barrett miller covered up a lot of the o-line deficiencies last season & that jaydn ott is not 100% healthy this season

this bull**** argument ignores the fact that barrett miller wuz healthy in shreveport & that mike bloesch wuz dialing up the play calls at the independence bowl when espn's preseason projected #1 running back in the 2025 nfl draft rushed 17 times for 55 yards, a little over 3 yards a carry

this season jaydn is averaging 2.6 yards per carry

shocky is gonna be in winston-salem on november 8th to serve lawsuit papers on the cal coaches responsible for this injustice on behalf of jaydn if necessary!!

or wilcox, bloesch & thompson can FREE jaydn for multiple PITCHOUTS for espn highlight epic touchdowns & 200+ yards against the demon deacons

this **** is getting live#

dear coach bloesch,

how r u?

i am fine

this really isn't that complicated, would you plz dial up some PITCHOUTS against oregon state next saturday??

PITCHOUTS r the quickest way to get the ball to ur rbs on the edges in wide open space...and let's be real here, outside edge defenders cannot run with jaydn & THE JET!!!! on PITCHOUTS just like inside linebackers cannot run with jack endries & corey dyches on interior streak patterns, got it?

thank you in advance for ur support of the california golden bear touchdown celebrations in the pumpkin patch end zones at memorial stadium

best regards,

https://instagr.am/p/DBW-VJGJekW
former starting o-lineman addison ooms dad has posted on the monster that his son addy used to lobby billy m to dial up PITCHOUTS but guess who is greatest proponent of PITCHOUTS in berkeley??

yeah that would be former bears running back coach ron gould who developed marshawn lynch, javid best, justin forsett, jj arrington, etc...while at cal gould sent 10 (TEN) runnings backs to the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, he got his guys PAID!!
https://www.davisenterprise.com/sports/stanford-hires-gould-as-running-backs-coach/article_27eea617-21c6-547c-baa1-c6f690377ffd.html

ron once tole me (in addition that nobody in his rb room would evah see the field until they could bench press 350 lbs to assure pass pro strength) that the PITCHOUT is the most exciting play in football not only for the tailback who gets to dial up their creativity but also for the offensive lineman that get to pull like their hair is on fire & also for the wideout who gets to deliver a violent crackback BLOCK on the edge defender...almost half of javid's billion rushing yards wuz on PITCHOUTS

unfortunately wilcox, bloesch, gilbert, thompson, toler & saffell got NO track record of putting running backs into the NFL, in fact mike said earlier this season he don't care about stats (i.e. promoting his players)...so we got jaydn ott averaging 2.9 yards per rush despite the fact that espn projected him as the #1 running back to be selected in the 2025 nfl draft...that is COACHING MALPRACTICE

these bears coaches are 100% RESPONSIBLE for the dangerous playcalling which runs our student athletes intentionally into telephone poles which is not only causing serious injuries (shocky thought javian wuz dead last year after my 165 lb bro wuz put in harm's way against washington in one of the dumbest play calls in the history of cal football) but also costing them millions of dollars

when if evah will the cal tailbacks once again be OFF TO THE ******* RACES??

cal's monster class OFFICIAL question of the day:

will the FAILING offensive staff of wilcox, gilbert, thompson, toler & saffell demand from bloesch that he dial up PITCHOUTS on the edges in wide open space this afternoon at memorial stadium to jaydn to not only protect him further intentional INJURIES but also stop costing him MILLIONS OF ******* DOLLARS in the 2025 national football league draft??
2024 jaydn ott rushing stats: 57 carries for 146 yards, 2.6 yards per rush

honestly when me & jaydn sue the cal offensive "masterminds," ron gould is gonna be an EXPERT WITNESS on the collegiate value of PITCHOUTS

nv, these are slow developing sweeps NOT quick hitting PITCHOUTS with jaydn already in motion when he got the ball & u got ACTION
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
"healthy" (per wilcox) jaydn ott stats vs oregon state: 11 yards on 10 slow developing play calls by bloesch

keep in mind this abysmal rushing yardage wuz amassed against a decimated beavers d which has seen 17 defensive players in the pre season 2 deep injured which resulted in 2 offensive players including andy alfieri playing d against the bears

dumb azzs will say this validates the scheduling of oregon state when in fact the opposite is true, when the bears make the trek to corvallis in august of 2025 presumably the beavs will be mostly healthy for the 1st game of the season & not beaten down with injuries like most mid major programs...that game is gonna be a battle against a healthy northwest team with a decidedly loud home field advantage with the chainshaw blaring after every 1st beavs 1st down!!

EVERY d the bears will face in the final 4 games will be significantly more talented & deeper than oregon state yet the #1 running back in college football could only rush for 11 yards on 10 ******* carries last saturday afternoon??

yeah ron gould got his rbs PAID in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, the offensive staff of wilcox, bloesch & thompson get their rbs INJURED & no running back they've "coached" has evah been drafted by the NFL

let's be very clear about this, a pre season heisman trophy candidate who the coaching/medical staff deemed healthy to play averaged LESS than a yard a carry against a mid major defense decimated by late season injuries that resulted in them playing 2 offensive players on d

prediction: if bloesch keeps doing the same old **** & hoping for different results (which is the definition of insanity), wake forest is gonna stop all 5 of ott's 1st quarter predictable interior runs for less than 7 yards total at which point ott should selfishly just sit out the rest of the game/season & prepare for the 2025 nfl draft

It is very frustrating. A huge opportunity for the program has been squandered. We could be undefeated, in first place, ranked with a great shot at the CFP after the ACC Championship Game featuring a Heisman candidate but instead we are in last place and Ott, who lead the PAC-12 in rushing last year, is #260 nationally in rushing and #251 nationally in yards per carry.

Hopefully we salvage an LA Bowl appearance against UNLV and Ott has a monster game.
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
calalum, 100% agreed that the non ron gould/marv lewis approved predictable self inflicted amateur hour playcalling is frustrating (which coupled if longwell had not run off mateen the bears would be 8-0), if the coaches cannot ADAPT (remember last season when future hall of famer kyle willingham creatively flipped his safety to running back due to an injury at rb1 & with a week's worth of practices the dude ran for 100+ yards in a victory against the bears?) this team may NOT be in a bowl game

u wuz rite, bloesch's insanely dumb azz 1980s texas high school smashmouth playalling which resulted in a healthy jaydn rushing 17 times for 55 yards on a chilly nite in shreveport wuz not an aberration as shocky originally thought but actually a harbinger of his wasting/injuring ott this fall

Maybe wer should hire Ron Gould as the next OC, put him in charge of play calling and the running game, and make Gilbert the passing game coordinator/QB coach. I don't know what Gould is making with the Rams, but I'm guessing maybe as OC we could pay him more than he's making as a pro running backs coach?

Coaching in the NFL at Ron's age is a lot more desirable than being a college coach. I doubt he ever coaches in college again. He's near the end of his career.

agree with both jeff & alky, ron gould would be a significant upgrade as the offensive coordinator (no need to split the position as a co coordinator with anybody) but understand that ron is probably at the end of his hall of fame coaching career on the west coast with a premiere national football league organization

but with that being said shocky is not one of those gameday thread posters (who don't actually got to football games in person & want everybody fired after every loss) who is calling for the dismissal of coach bloesch...mike is truly respected/loved by his high gpa hard working trench workers & is an excellent developer of o-line talent, the 2 freshman tackles nick morrow & frederick williams are both quick twitch +1 athletic all acc upside difference makers

shocky don't want wilcox to fire bloesch, the monster just wants mike to dial up some ******* PITCHOUTS against wake forest, got it??

yeah there are other staff members, current players & bearents who see the mismanagement of jaydn ott & some of them have let mike know their suggestions for setting free this generational talent on the edges in open space but is he really listening or is he just gonna continue to be stubborn as **** with his failing texas high school run schemes even after a 10 yards on 11 rushes performance against an injury decimated mid major program??

unless something changes, this is gonna be a 2029 california golden bears trivia question:

question: back in the day before jaydn ott was the starting running back in the 2029 pro bowl, which cal coaches derailed his 2024 heisman aspirations with dangerous playcalling that did not include PITCHOUTS??

answer: wilcox, bloesch & thompson

yeah calling a ******* PITCHOUT takes no effort (it's not like a ******* handstand or something)

Jeff82
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Shocky, just saying Bloesch is stubborn doesn't cut it for me as an explanation. I'm assuming he doesn't do this because he doesn't think Ott can beat the defenders to the edge, especially if they're all keying on him.

I'm also assuming he doesn't think the blocking is good enough. As I recall the description of the classic Vince Lombardi/Packers sweep of the 60s and 70s, which I read about as a kid in one of my books, every player except the ball carrier and the QB had a blocking assignment that had to be carried out successfully, including the other back and the receivers. We know that the WRs and the other RBs are weak in blocking, so Bloesch may be correct.

I think one of the things we probably should be trying is putting Ott in the slot, with The Jet at tailback, then giving Ott the ball on the fly sweep. That would give him a head of steam headed to the edge, and he would be closer to the LOS that way than on a pitchout. If you then put Endries as the wideout on the side Ott is running to, and give him the assignment to make the crackback on the outside LB, that might spring Jady. Of course, I'm not an OC, and I did not stay at Holiday Inn last night. YMMV.

jeff, u make a lotta cogent points but hall of fame defensive coordinator marv lewis tole me a couple a days ago that PITCHOUTS are the quickest way to get elite SPEED backs to the edges in space & shocky is gonna defer to his 30+ years track records as on the greatest defensive masterminds in the history of the national football league

look, instead of everybody including the staff crying about a coaching **** up 4-4 season (due to longwell running off mateen but now rebounding well with ice in his veins derek as k1 along with the dangerous run game play calling) why don't burl toler before he goes trick or treating tonite with his fam just make a 5 minute call to ron gould's private cell # and ask him wut are the 5 key intricate nuances of a successful PITCHOUT & then report back/share this info at tomorrow's staff meeting??

scholly roster math is FUN (43 in/43 out/85 schollys for 2024)#
new 2025 ncca scholly roster cap will be 105 (up from 85) but will also cap the total roster size including walk ons at 105...there are internal competitions going on right now by walk ons to show developmental upside to become one of those 105 players for the 2025 season

the struggle that must be (hug/embrace COMPETITION & a curvy brunette yoga female at the #1 ranked public university in the world)#
2025 scholly roster math management:

despite the new 2025 ncca scholly roster cap of 105, the washington huskies football program despite its affluent donor base (microsoft, boeing, starbucks) is targeting a soft cap of 85 for 2025 that could potentially expand to 90 if necessary

this decision to not utilize all the available schollys is based not only upon practical player development considerations (how many players can get practice reps?) but also economics

there are a zillion new economic challenges for schools with the new scholly caps, for instance is cal baseball gonna go from 11 to the new max 34 baseball schollys in 2025 despite operating a program that is bleeding money & the initial stu gordon fundraising money nearly 100% spent??

of course the pathological liar current athletic director won't provide any financial answers/gameplan in his worthless as **** Knowlton Knows Nothing notes any more than he will give an update re: the promised practice basketball facility that he's being telling everybody including coach madsen is gonna have shovels in the ground tomorrow (not so fun fact: it's not even listed on the uc berkeley list of current capital projects)

and meanwhile lyons is asleep on pride rock during his 36 month listening tour despite working on campus for decades

financial malpractice (with a day of reckoning just around the corner, **** real??)#

scholly roster math is FUN (43 in/43 out/85 schollys for 2024)#
new 2025 ncca scholly roster cap will be 105 (up from 85) but will also cap the total roster size including walk ons at 105...there are internal competitions going on right now by walk ons to show developmental upside to become one of those 105 players for the 2025 season

the struggle that must be (hug/embrace COMPETITION & a curvy brunette yoga female at the #1 ranked public university in the world)#
2025 scholly roster math management:

despite the new 2025 ncca scholly roster cap of 105, the washington huskies football program despite its affluent donor base (microsoft, boeing, starbucks) is targeting a soft cap of 85 for 2025 that could potentially expand to 90 if necessary

this decision to not utilize all the available schollys is based not only upon practical player development considerations (how many players can get practice reps?) but also economics

there are a zillion new economic challenges for schools with the new scholly caps, for instance is cal baseball gonna go from 11 to the new max 34 baseball schollys in 2025 despite operating a program that is bleeding money & the initial stu gordon fundraising money nearly 100% spent??

of course the pathological liar current athletic director won't provide any financial answers/gameplan in his worthless as **** Knowlton Knows Nothing notes any more than he will give an update re: the promised practice basketball facility that he's being telling everybody including coach madsen is gonna have shovels in the ground tomorrow (not so fun fact: it's not even listed on the uc berkeley list of current capital projects)

and meanwhile lyons is asleep on pride rock during his 36 month listening tour despite working on campus for decades

financial malpractice (with a day of reckoning just around the corner, **** real??)#
Roster management is a crucial piece of the future of P4 athletics. New roster caps will have a substantial impact on both the competitiveness of programs but also the financial viability. Football is the big piece that must be decided IMO. Staying in a P4 conference and hoping for entry into the near certain "super league" that is likley coming is crucial. To all sports not just football. But football will be the deciding factor for entry into a new super league or obscurity. The new super league is mechanism to fund NIL and department revenues. Without being in the super league Cal sports will almost certainly be decimated.

Cal will need to decide how to allocate the scholarships and NIL monies they likely must start to distribute starting as early as next Fall per the House settlement. The House settlement has been preliminarily approved but several legal challenges likely remain. But the new scholarship numbers and roster caps go into place for 2025/2026.

The financial impact the additional scholarships place on the department will be heavy. But IMO they must fund football to the absolute highest level possible. Football has to lead the department. Other programs will likely have to become fully endowed or face being taken to club status or dropped altogether.

The department has been in bad shape financially for a long time. But the rent is coming due. Soon. It will be interesting to see how the Chancellor, AD and Justin Wilcox manage the new scholarship limits and roster cap.

The program sits at 85 scholarships now. But is over what will be the cap come next Fall. Determining how many walkons to keep will be interesting. Do they scholarship the entire roster? They need to be at 105 by the time Fall practice starts in August.

Some of these decisions likely have to occur now or soon. The early signing period starts on Dec 4. Ends on Dec 6. The transfer portal opens on Dec 9 and closes on Dec 28. Cal will need a plan in place.

As Shocky rightly points out other programs now can increase their scholarship numbers. Title IX will play a large role in deciding if a particular sport can increase or stand pat. I would expect many female sports to increase as Football likely will. They will need to keep pace. But not every sport will be able to add scholarships. Not with the current financial state of the department and NIL payments starting.

Football recruiting will be very interesting to watch. Will Georgia, Ohio St and others scholarship the entire 105 player roster? That is an increase of 20 per program now available. Cal is in a very hard spot here. To stay competitive and work towards entry into the likely super league the football budget will have to rise. The AD will also have to begin to distribute NIL funds per the House settlement. How they decide to disburse these funds will be very crucial. Football drives the revenues.

Sometime soon Cal will need to activate their plan. I agree with Shocky that a day of reckoning is coming.

Last year we had the #48 scoring offense, #47 in rushing and #46 in yards per carry. That despite being unsettled at QB the first 4 games, Mendoza being a first time starter and committing a bunch of turnovers and injuries on the OL.

We get nearly everyone back, with upgrades, and Mendoza starting from the first snap and playing great, virtually eliminating his turnovers. We have great TEs and a deep RB room. Great talent at WR. Yet, we have the #81 scoring offense, #108 rushing offense and #120 in yards per carry. On paper, our offense should be MUCH better than last year, not far worse. Even with OL injuries again.

The major difference is the OC and the play calling, especially in the second half and 4th quarter with a lead or the game on the line. I saw some improvement against OSU, but it was OSU. The continued misuse of Ott was VERY troubling.

I like that we added a jet sweep, but we need someone who is a bigger running threat than Mikey Matthews running it. I'd love to see Ott in the pistol with the Jet in the slot on the jet sweep and Endries the sealing blocker. Mix in faking the handoff to the Jet and pitching it to Ott going the other way. Mix in faking those two with Endries streaking long up the middle or the WRs running deep routes over the middle where Mendoza is money on the throw.
