cal's TAKERS recruit update:

6'1" 170 lbs cornerback florida international hezekiah masses with length & SPEED from deerfield beach, florida is gonna officially trip to cal & kansas state this week...an elite talent that runs with a gliding NO EFFORT motion kinda like t grizzly

kinda wondering if masses has evah been to somewhere as ugly & cold as **** as manhattan kansas??...**** is gonna get real when he takes the long drive from the airport to the campus, dude better own a 7 layer parka or something...brrrrrhhhhhh

hezekiah wuz a 3 year starter at fiu & an all conference usa selection in 2024...he's a hard worker who didn't take schoolwork seriously in high school with a 2.7 gpa but has grown up a lot since then, we're gonna find out real soon if hezekiah is mentally limitless with academic ambition

the university of california, berkeley=#1 ranked public university in the world (for those that wanna build generational wealth thru nfl development as a TAKER & hard work in the classrooms of berkeley)

With regard to the J. Michael Sturdivant notation "lacks speed. Can't create separation", wasn't J Mike a Texas state sprint champion in the 100M and 200M in hs?
Shocky1

pitts, j-mike bulked up at ucla (when he actually needed to core out) & lost speed plus he never had any wiggle/cutting ability which allows defensive backs to blanket him except for line of scrimmage bubble receptions for 1-2 yard yards, he's just a dime a dozen big catch radius wideout whose not a threat in the downfield vertical passing attack kinda like jeremiah hunter who to his credit earned a berkeley degree unlike sturdivant

justin wilcox: tireless worker who cares about the academic goals/ambitions of his student athletes, an ELITE defensive mind that continually fails to get involved with offensive & special teams...an intensely private person in a profession that favors extroverts vs introverts

brian johnson: good person that beat cancer but a FAILED s&c coach that needs to be replaced later this month, wilcox not having the stomach for this will doom 2025 once again to epidemic INJURIES & yet another underachieving season...this is by far the #1 issue holding back the cal football program

mike bloesch: very detailed offensive line coach that lost focus on o-line development this past year tryna unsuccessfully juggle both his room & play calling duties...not an emotionally available person due to his stoic personality, mike stubbornly refuses to listen to the more than half of the staff's preference for less interior run schemes in favor of PITCHOUTS...this is the #2 issue adversely impacting cal fb

peter sirmon: an outstanding defensive coordinator & ELITE developer of inside backers, his biggest miscue of 2025 wuz not giving hunter & liam more snaps early in the season particularly in the miami game which resulted in cade & teddye gassed in the 4th quarter & unable to tackle the canes qb1 & wr1 in open space...does wilcox have a line of succession in place (has justin burned all bridges with tim deruyter)??

ryan longwell: former nfl kicker/low handicap golfer it's mind boggling to me that ryan didn't see in mateen the collin morikawa like ELITE precision in his stroke coupled with an ice in his veins mental make up...if ryan can put together a deal (outlined in an earlier post) for mateen then cal's special teams could be the best in the acc next season, otherwise more lost games because of missed field goals is a real possibility...has longwell burned all bridges with the bhaghani family like he has with a significant # of development coaches in the nationwide kicking community?

aristotle thompson: likable coach with a remarkable family but has never produced a nfl draft running back, his failing to advocate for PITCHOUTS like ron gould did back in the day has cost jaydn millions of dollars

burl toler: one of the best west coast recruiters with his sincere ability to build relationships & sell berkeley academics, burl has also built a now ingrained zero BLOCKING culture in his wideout room which has hurt the nfl scouting evaluations of his players

mike saffell: the engaging FUN haas berkeley biz ad grad is the future head coach in berkeley (our version of asu's home grown dillingham), would be nice if he elevated the BLOCKING expectations in the tight end room before that day gets here

sterlin gilbert: a gifted developer of quarterback talent, he also shares bloesch's texas high school background of smashmouth only interior runs/**** run game schemes, could serve as an analyst

andrew browning: good not great coach in a tough spot recruiting historically the lowest gpa position in college football, andrew is a plus for the program

vic so'oto: more fiery this season is a real plus given the kinda buttoned up personalities of wilcox & sirmon, his earlier recruiting mistakes with low gpa prospects are now in the rear view mirror

tre watson & terrence brown: the PERFECT coaches in this era of college free agency, the are both FUN & mentoring their room both on & the off the field to become remarkable young berkeley grads...and if a player has nfl physical tools, they will get them to the next level of their dreams & PAID in the national football league!!

marshall cherrington: a high energy recruiter who juggles well, marshall has hopefully learned from his earlier wasted time/resources recruitments of low gpa academic silver bullets, struggling academically students will be the 1st to bail from berkeley when a better nil offer rolls in, right nyziah?

valerie grimaldo: berkeley grad in 3 years is very creative & got a good PONYTAIL!!

andrew mcgraw: the most qualified next ad to hit the ground running (cal athletics is running out of time under knowlton's cluster****) with a football first approach to everything which will help finance all other sports...needs to be more assertive in guiding wilcox thru his blind side

sierra achin: the berkeley grad is a huge upgrade in the cfo role from the anti football/basketball agenda tom lowry who retired last year after carrying out the knowlton driven financial tsunami of loans from the central campus which will never have the future revenues for repayment

beth tafolla-voetsch: a competent administrator, her conference call with donors scheduled for this friday soliciting internal nil fundraising is NOT gonna be well received just like the earlier zoom call (described to me as a "timeshare sales pitch") requesting funding for all the non revenue sports...NOBODY wants to pay for worthless bureaucrats & only a fool would think any monies directed for the internal nil program won't be misdirected

markeisha everett: an arrogant self promoter who decision to not offer FREE tixs to all students & also failing to capitalize on the professional sports team tix competition departing from the bay area marketspace has resulted in tens of thousands empty seats/a lotta tarps at memorial stadium & high school crowds at haas pavilion for both the men's & women's basketball teams...an unqualified worthless bureaucrat hire by knowlton

jennifer simon-o'neil: the one truly evil as **** person in the athletic department, still tryna lobby for internal nil dollars to be distributed to the star quidditch player instead of the starting offensive line with her anti football agenda

james knowlton: the general is financially illiterate & a pathological liar (both promising the basketball practice facility which is never gonna get built under his watch & deceiving the uc board of regents last months utilizing 2023 financial data instead of projected 2025 numbers while lyons quietly played along with his deception), he's NOT liked by the football program or even his own staff other than jenny & marekisha who like him are not employable anywhere else on planet earth

rich lyons: means well & loves cal sports in a profound way but after working decades on campus his decision to not terminate knowlton re: the mckeever fiasco via the chancellor's office guard dog dan mogulof is beyond disappointing, if rich can't embolden himself to make decisions his tenure in a time of existential financial challenges barreling towards berkeley his legacy will be just that of another bureaucrat who got paid to look out the window at the campanile on a wintery december day

lance cooper: the program mvp, cal football would be unrecognizable without his involvement

kevin kennedy: see above, his pro bono work pencils out at about 5 cents an hour for his thousands of unbillable hours

randy scott: cal men's basketball biggest madsen confidante & football/basketball landlord of the year

oski: got replaced by buc-ee, huge ******* upgrade!!

https://instagr.am/p/DDDJbtMPeL1
the world according to shocky#

ok, internal problem #2 facing the cal football team solved, no time for the implementation of new schemes with the la bowl on december 18th but fully expect significantly more diverse (i.e PITCHOUTS) run game schemes that don't predictably/unsuccessfully attack with interior run calls

so now problem #1 the termination of s&c coach brian johnson (wildly overpaid relative to the college football marketplace at $425,000) needs to happen after the bowl game, is justin gonna put his feelings/friendship ahead of the needs of the football program??...to be honest with u, shocky may be out on cal football to a large extent if this does not happen next week, there's zero point in attending every second of another football season with an epidemic of avoidable critical INJURIES

let's be very clear there is a tsunami of really BAD NEWS heading towards the program in the next week or so, cal football & the athletic department are running outta time to autocorrect their really dumb azz past decisions

life is NOT linear (the world is changing quickly, can berkeley avoid the tsunami??)#

MAJOR CAL ATHLETICS ZOOM CALL:

is scheduled for this thursday by beth tafolla-voetsch with donors re: the future of cal athletics (tryna get fundraising going for non revenue sports, good luck with that "time share sales pitch"), the participants will include chancellor lyons & ron riviera but most notably NO JAMES ARTHUR KNOWLTON!!

is this **** getting live or not?? (as the world turns in berkeley)#
update: in speaking with MULTIPLE sources the cal internal nil fundraising will be led by beth tafolla-voetsch who wuz the lead person on the zoom call...ron rivera did not participate on this call

knowlton did speak in his nasal blah blah blah which is a clear indicator that lyons does not intend to commission dan mogoluf to terminate him at this time...a complicating factor is the women's swimmers lawsuits costs if both jimbo & jenny are fired for failing to protect the best interests of berkeley students which they have clearly done on a borderline criminal level

lyons outlined some of the existential financial challenges heading towards berkeley with reduced future state of california support & downsized federal grants projected in the future...yet the chancellor has not given a clear mandate that the financially hemorrhaging (via loans from the central campus that will never have the future revenues for repayment) athletic department needs to cut sport teams (teams such as rugby should be club sports with zero university funding) & reduce bureaucratic costs at this time but unrealistically thinks donors are gonna continue to donate to the athletic department

lyons made it clear that he supports the revenue sports but that there will be consequences if they don't win big in the very near future...but he's gonna keep knowlton which means markeisha will continue to not offer FREE tixs to all students...as a failing worthless bureaucrat everett has done absolutely nothing to brand/market/grow the cal football fanbase at memorial stadium while increasing the # of tarps...and both the men's & women's basketball programs are also not generating more gameday revenues with an empty haas pavillion despite clear demand for affordable basketball tixs in the bay area (the valkyries got 20,000+ season tix deposits)

lyons favors reducing costs for programs that cannot raise enough funds to operate autonomously but that is flawed reasoning...for instance the baseball team has spent nearly all the original funds raised by stu gordon & next season the ncca is increasing the # of schollys from 11 to 34 which will be necessary in order to be competitive in the acc...so instead of just cutting baseball which got minimal fan interest for a roster that is predominantly middle class white young men and repurposing evans diamond for the greater good of the berkeley campus, the lyons plan would just reduce their schollys to some minimal # which would result in them losing big time in the acc with exponentially increased travel costs

lyons is willing to fund the internal nil for the upcoming year & realizes he's gonna take a lotta heat from the greater berkeley academic community but isn't willing to make a change in the failed leadership of the athletic department today & then transparently cutting sports (self sufficient club sports)/reducing costs immediately

bottom line, after decades on the berkeley campus rich wuz in a position on day 1 to direct dan mogulof to terminate knowlton & jenny while demoting markeisha but he's opted to instead further fund & allow the irresponsible financial spending of the athletic department to continue while asking non receptive fatigued donors for bail out money to pay for the current bureaucratic bloat

shocky loves rich's spirit & good intentions but 100% disagrees with his non transparent plan to not replace immediately replace failing management & streamline costs in the athletic department...the lyons plan would never work in the REAL WORLD or corporate america & it's not gonna work at the current #1 ranked public university in the world

rich is an outstanding human being on planet earth & we're very lucky to have a FUN chancellor who truly bleeds blue & gold, just hoping he will reconsider his strategic direction, go bears!!

https://instagr.am/p/DC16Ir5PaEt
as mentioned above there is some really BAD NEWS barreling towards berkeley, some of the tsunami has already arrived on campus in the eradication of the men's & women's basketball fanbases (which is basically a core of loyal old blues in their 70s/80s with no material growth in the development of a younger fanbase due to incompetent ineffectual marketing/branding which also means there aren't any future Builders of Berkeley in the pipeline

women's basketball attendance (bears are almost nationally ranked at #28):

st marys-1231 attendance
idaho state-5066 (area kid's rock schooldays 11 am tip off, this event predates markeisha)
san jose state-1288
grambling-1153
auburn-1341
alabama-1431

both the auburn & alabama games wuz against nationally ranked opponents

men's basketball attendance:

bakersfield-3472
cal poly-3023
air force-3631
sacramento state-3662
mercyhurst-2093
stanford (the BIG GAME)-6089
cornell-3035

WINNING is not the solution, it's not the magic wand in building a fanbase with new fans, the expansion wnba team via brilliant marketing got 20,000+ season tix deposits for the valkyries which have never won a single game!!...the greater bay area is basketball crazy for an affordable (the golden state warriors are for the rich as **** 1%) FUN option in financially challenging times as evidenced by the 11,000+ sold out hostile/high energy crowds back in the cal's monster class era which inclusively (not hiding behind a premium board) celebrated the MAGIC of cal basketball (those days are clearly in the rearview mirrah)

if chancellor lyons is gonna allow knowlton, jenny & markeisha to continue to degrade the revenue sports on his watch, rich might be the only person in the stands at future games at memorial stadium & haas pavilion

what are you going to do, rich, ur running outta TIME??

so he tells us while we wait for the short par 4 8th green to clear that he thinks ferry point is one of the greatest golf courses in the united states (it isn't, there are at least a dozen courses on long island & the hamptons that are significantly better) & that he's qualified to make that statement because of his extensive travels around the globe playing golf, that nobody knows golf architecture better than him & that includes actual golf architects

so in front of his 2 buddies & his cart caddie i tell the donald that actually i'm one of the 13 guys (and the youngest) to have played the world top 100 courses & stare him down...total silence, one of his buddies who is the chairman of macys starts to laugh & donald play punches my shoulder kinda hard, he's been pwned...whatever

Stocky, my wife and I did fly the 6,800 miles to attend Big Game (and attend to a family emergency in Texas, and Thanksgiving in San Diego). Because of the "sell out" we started the Game on Tightwad, then found empty seats in the stadium. It was a great game. It was last minute and we were pressed for time so we missed out on seeing a lot of people, including my good friend Will (KoreAm Bear) who I met in Kulapea, the Hawaii Cal Club. It was good talking with you at the Northwestern game in Chicago back in the day and I'd love to be in my hometown just down the road from where I grew up to see the LA Bowl.

Plenty of friends and family with ties to Inglewood and lots of sports and concert memories. My great uncle, Kenny Hahn (a famous LA County Supervisor) and his family lived there growing up so we sometimes had family gatherings there. My ex-wife who also went to Cal went to St Mary's in Inglewood as did another close friend who lived on my floor in the dorms. My ex mother in law and her mother are both interred at Inglewood Cemetery, right next to Ella Fitzgerald. My best friend since kindergarten growing up in West LA, who coincidentally was one of my freshmen roommates at Cal (we did not request to be) currently lives in Inglewood. It would be great to see him. Last year we visited his and many of my childhood friends parents' graves in the Japanese section of the cemetery.

Some of my friends in high school enjoyed betting on the horses so we would often ditch school to smoke weed and go to Hollywood Park. Or buy stolen stereos for our cars at the Inglewood swap meet to replace the ones that had been stolen. My first indoor concert was Earth, Wind and Fire at the Forum in 1977 (age 15, so we could finally drive).

For three years after Cal, 1985, 1986 and 1987 my friends and I had Lakers' season tickets. They were "student discount" tickets my friends had used when at UCLA but the Lakers kept sending renewals and allowing us to buy more tickets. The seats were the highest row of the lower bowl. However, one night we were smoking joints and drinking in the parking lot pregame and some very attractive young ladies joined us. They asked us if we wouldn't mind sitting in their seats directly under the basket. Turns out they bought the seats because they came with Lakers' Club passes but they spent the entire game in the Lakers Club selling coke and turning tricks. They wanted us to sit in their seats to avoid drawing attention. So we watched three seasons of Championship Showtime Lakers sitting directly behind the basket, high fiving Jack Nickerson on the way to our seats, hearing Larry Bird talking ****, amazed at Hakeem's fade away baseline jumper, mid 80's NBA and all its stars. And of course our guys Magic, Kareem, Worthy…. Threepeat champions.

So yes, I'd love to fly back out for the LA Bowl, with their coaching losses we probably kill them, but I'm actually currently sitting in a hospital room in Manila (world class St Luke's in Bonafacio Global City, feels more like a cruise ship than a hospital) recovering from surgery to remove a tumor from my stomach. The flight home to Guam will be enough this month. Going to be making some life changes when I get home too. Including posting here a lot less.

However, my wife and I have been contemplating building out a van on the Mainland and following the Bears while visiting family and friends in California, Arizona, Texas, Maryland, Virginia, Atlanta and Florida since that corresponds with our rainy season. Or now buying an akiya near Kyoto to renovate. Largely depends on how things go with Cal and the US. All our nieces (especially) and nephews in Texas want to leave despite living in relatively blue bubbles of Austin or Houston. We will see how things go.

Fiat Lux!

OMG, so sorry to hear about your health issues. I hope you don't reduce you posts on this board. I find that significantly more often than not, when I "star" a post I just read, I see it was written by you. I didn't think we had a prayer of a chance of getting into the B1G, but other than that issue I almost always agree with your posts. Cal football is lucky to have a supporter like you. I wish you a full and speedy recovery.

the other bad news is that our pathological liar ****tard athletic director (with the counsel of his #2 the evil as **** jennifer simon-o'neil who shares his anti football/men's basketball agenda) that is 100% enabled by chancellor lyons never got shovels in the ground for the basketball practice facility he blatantly lied about/promised for years but just got approval for a massively overpriced softball renovation

the new levine-fricke softball field will cost $57,950,000!!

the financing is as follows:

$24,883,000-campus funding
$29,490,000-external financing i.e. bank loans
$3,577,000-gift funding

shocky is a new softball fan but this is financially reckless for a department that is already running a $50,000,000+ deficit that will become $70,000,000+ annually with the 2025 nil payments, meanwhile not a single sport has been cut & Knowlton Knows Nothing Notes fail to mention a financial gameplan every single time

rich's gameplan based upon last week's zoom call with donors is to just have donors pay for all his administrators/bureaucrats & reckless spending rather than implementing financial discipline/austerity, that plan is NOT gonna work

Thanks. On the B1G thing, I just think that instead of trying to use our leverage, including the governor of California, to try to block UCLA from leaving, or getting Calimony, we should have tried to use that influence to tie us to them (a resolution that we have to be in the same conference?) while at the same time making a positive push for admission to the B1G, working with B1G presidents, UCLA and USC, Stanford but especially Fox Sports in LA. Don't know if it works, but that should have been the plan.

However, the main thing I objected to was "insiders" authoritatively attacking me personally for saying there was no evidence Christ and Knowlton were trying to get us into the B1G or even wanted us in the B1G, that all indications were they were all in with Kliavkoff, even letting him represent us before the UC Regents. They claimed Christ was doing MORE than UW and Oregon to get into the B1G.

Anyway, I always thought the Pac-10 should have negotiated a merger with the B1G or the ACC, so I was happy we got into the ACC, it was a great opportunity, it is just a shame we are squandering it with Wilcox.

^ the mendoza family decision to have both of their sons together for one gameday flight moving forward wuz the major BAD NEWS

the other bad news is that our pathological liar ****tard athletic director (with the counsel of his #2 the evil as **** jennifer simon-o'neil who shares his anti football/men's basketball agenda) that is 100% enabled by chancellor lyons never got shovels in the ground for the basketball practice facility he blatantly lied about/promised for years but just got approval for a massively overpriced softball renovation

the new levine-fricke softball field will cost $57,950,000!!

the financing is as follows:

This is going to get very ugly when Federal funding for education and research gets cut next year. I see an existential crises for Cal athletics in the coming years.

Our only hope is to accept that college football and basketball are professional sports and view ourselves as professional franchise in the East Bay nominally representing all of California. And then hire managers and marketers (lots of Cal alums) from the professional sports world to make smart decisions to win games and build our brand.

the following is a reprint from cal's monster class back in the day:

visited this morning the recently opened nicklaus design group ferry point golf course just outside of nyc with panoramic views of the manhattan skyline

https://instagr.am/p/C7dS0GksHlA
arrive from my upper east side central park hotel by cab at the clubhouse around 7:30 am to stretch & warm up at the practice facility

upon arrival the head golf professional tells me that ferry point's developer donald trump heard that as a golf digest & golf magazine rankings panelist that i had an 8:10 tee time and would i like to play with the donald at 8:20 am instead?

so i say sure, no big deal, let's do this

so we make the introductions on the practice green & the 1st thing i notice is that trump has the weirdest color hair ever (kinda yellow orange) & that he has total man boobs along with an oversized obnoxious red cap

i walk & carry my lightweight leather mackzenie bag while the donald drives a golf cart literally to within 6 inches of every green...just as annoyingly, we then proceed to play thru every group on the golf course in front of us (why does he do this, why not just take the 1st tee time?)...it's funny to watch people's reactions as he dictates the playing thru, some golfers are understandably agitated while others want a selfie with him on their phones, he very clearly enjoys all the drama he's created

so he tells us while we wait for the short par 4 8th green to clear that he thinks ferry point is one of the greatest golf courses in the united states (it isn't, there are at least a dozen courses on long island & the hamptons that are significantly better) & that he's qualified to make that statement because of his extensive travels around the globe playing golf, that nobody knows golf architecture better than him & that includes actual golf architects

so in front of his 2 buddies & his cart caddie i tell the donald that actually i'm one of the 13 guys (and the youngest) to have played the world top 100 courses & stare him down...total silence, one of his buddies who is the chairman of macys starts to laugh & donald play punches my shoulder kinda hard, he's been pwned...whatever

dude is an interesting guy but playing golf with him is not really a celebration of the game but more like riding a roller coaster

you're fired, shocky#

as a financial conservative (that believes in balanced fiscal budgets/discipline & the full funding of the police but that will never vote for election deniers) & social liberal (except transgender males tryna compete in women's sports, laws that tolerate/embolden stealing (including paychecks) & dei protections for failing employees) independent that strongly believes that all citizens of the united state of america should pick up litter, shocky can tell u that after spending 5+ hours (golf & lunch) with donald trump that he lacks empathy for others & that he's non intellectually curious in a self agenda driven feral kinda way

https://instagr.am/p/BK1PpkdD858
vote for andrew mcgraw for athletic director!!#

calalum, unlike the angry myopic people on the extreme both ends of the political spectrum like urself, shocky believes brian harsin's FOOTBALL related positives far outweigh his negatives & is a HOMERUN hire with his innovative offensive schemes/playcalling!!

can't wait to see wut he dials up for the bears OFFENSE on wednesday october 18th at the nfl tricked out so fi stadium!!

r u gonna be there to celebrate the magic of cal football & maybe STORM THE FIELD with shocky??

I thought a merger with the ACC (to set up a west coast "division" of the remaining 10 teams would have been great. Perhaps the ACC was not interested, but we don't know.

I agree Christ should have tried to get the Regents to insist on Southern Branch taking Cal with them. I remember hearing that Robert Gordon Sproul insisted that Cal bring Southern Branch into the conference with them back in the day. Sproul was a visionary.

mateen bhaghani backstory:

the following is my take based on multiple sources directly involved, ima very confident that all parties can come together with transparent communication and amicably resolve this situation

mateen wuz recruited out of san diego by then special teams analyst/coordinator michael barton

bhaghani took an unofficial visit to berkeley for the 2022 big game at memorial stadium...at the game he sat by 2024 elite punter kanyon floyd (asu commit with a full scholly) from horizon high school...on the flight back to phoenix that nite i sat by kanyon & his dad jeff...they tole me that coach barton tole them that while the scholly situation wuz not 100% determined for the 2023 season that any preferred walk on earning a starting position would be awarded a scholly the following season as is the practice at most power conferences

mateen accepted the cal preferred walk on offer & this season won the starting kicking position with a perfect 27 out of 27 extra points and 8 out of 9 field goals (including 4 ice in his veins kicks in the rose bowl) including 2 out of 2 from 40-49 yards

bhaghani handled kickoffs in only 1 game, his directions prior to the game wuz to "kick the ball to the right" which wuz not practiced during the preceding week...he had a poor kickoff in that game which gave the opponent very good field position

cal's special teams kicking is handled on a consulting basis by packers hall of famer ryan longwell (who is also an elite golfer) who travels to berkeley around once a month to work with the kickers

https://instagr.am/p/BliTs0pA7gs
ryan (and not the staff or head coach) called mateen a couple of days ago & informed him that mateen will not be receiving a scholly in 2024 & that he intends to bring in his own guy for the scholly as longwell runs a kicking business...this obviously also has implications for the 2023 scholly kicker michael luckhurst

mateen luvs berkeley's educational opprotunties & as an excellent student is interested in following in the footsteps of shocky & nando in seeking admission to the world renowned haas undergraduate business school which opens nearly every door imaginable & is worth millions over a lifetime...he is well liked by the staff & teammates and is recognized as a hard working team player

bhaghani does not want to leave berkeley & would like to handle the kicking duties in the bears upcoming independence bowl game vs texas tech despite ucla already offering a roster spot for 2024

my take is that ryan wuz not aware of coach barton's promise that a preferred walk on winning the starting duties would be guaranteed a scholly the following season

wut needs to happen to amicably resolve this situation?

coach wilcox needs to touch base with coach barton to get clarification re: his conversations with mateen...then an in person meeting needs to be scheduled with mateen & his family with coach wilcox, coach so'oto, marshall cherrington & ryan longwell to transparently discuss solutions

there's absolutely no way mateen should be basically forced to leave the #1 ranked public university in the world
^ why cal is NOT 9-3/10-2 in 2024, this mistake can be corrected now

https://instagr.am/p/DCLTNyaR7aA
let's make a DEAL!!#
coach wilcox's myopia hunt:

at yesterday's press conference justin reiterated multiple times his newest blah blah blah coachspeak phrases which are "nothing surprises me anymore" & "there are some things we can control and some things outta our control"

the clear indication from the comment "it's better if those conversations remain private" re: his final conversation with mendoza (who at the end of the day is just a self serving young man with little regards for his teammates) is that the transfer blindsided him (and totally ****** up the bears in the jks recruitment with ferdinand the bull's caca timing) & he tole his qb1 that he could NOT play in the la bowl

but guess wut coach?

ur players are not stupid, they ALL know that the BIGGEST REASON cal this season is not 9-3/10-2 is because you, longwell & cherrington ran off mateen!!...that wuz under ur control & u ****** up

ur not that loyal (or apparently very self perceptive) either so some guys are acting in what they perceive as their own selfish best interests just like u

the truth of the matter is that the cal media that follows the program which includes the bearinsider.com has NEVER asked wilcox even after multiple game losing MISSED chip shot field goals is why mateen is in westwood not berkeley

mateen bhaghani=the colin morikawa of kicking with his unfailing precision & ice in his veins persona whose quest to apply to the haas biz school (which now has ZERO football players, how come hunter barth wuz not accepted coach, did u or lyons lobby for him??) wuz taken away from him

and so here we are (if u see darkness look away)#

cal football program relationships with parents:

whether or not the above claim is true or not (that bloesch promised rogers the qb1), what is indisputable is that just like wilcox, longwell & cherrington alientating mateen bhaghani's parents & not having healthy trusting relationships to work out the scholly issue, the mendoza family also does not have open lines of communication/a strong relationship with wilcox & bloesch

shocky gotta lotta sun angel golf buddies in north scottsdale, what is very clear is that asu grad dillingham got GREAT RELATIONSHIPS with everybody from players, parents, fans/boosters, the academic community, the local media, etc

justin wilcox is an introvert in an extrovert profession (randy is 100% on the money)

if lyons will quit gazing out the window at the campanile & do his job in firing the con artist & jenny (which will then result in markeisha getting demoted to berkeley parking enforcement duties) as the financial tsunami is closing in on berkeley every day then the next athletic director andrew mcgraw will be in a position to promote the gregarious haas biz ad grad mike saffell to head coach in 2029 when the wilcox contract expires

I love Saffell and his loyalty and enthusiasm. However, do you really think he is the best pick to coach our OL in 2025?

Recall that our OL is the primary reason that we didn't have a much, much better season in 2024 (more important than our placekicking situation). We are probably not going to sign a bunch of portal OL who were starters/stars at power 4 schools. Hopefully we'll entice a promising mix of lower conference high achievers and power conference guys who weren't the best fit for their former teams but could excel in the right situation and with the right coaching.

But whoever we get from the portal, they will need to be integrated with whichever holdovers we are left with from the current OL mix. Tough decisions will have to be made about who starts and where, and cohesion will have to be developed. Blocking schemes may need to be changed. I think we'll need excellent coaching to offset the fact that we likely won't have top-25 OL talent, at least not when they walk in the door.

Given all that, should we entrust this key success factor to a guy in his mid-20's who has never been a full time OL coach?

I don't think we should pick guys because of their Cal connections....not when the future of our program depends on us fixing our OL by the beginning of the 2025 season.

I want an experienced OL guru brought in, someone who can coach them differently....better. I want a veritable horse-whisperer of OL coaches.

I'd love for there to be a spot for Saffell to continue with the program. I'm sure one can be found, even just continuing as TE coach. I agree he's a great asset for the future. But we need to make the best hire we can for offensive line coach right now.

zony, agree with ur sentiments, that's why the operative words in shocky's post are "may be"

we need to trust brian harsin whose been doing this at a very high level for a longtime to know better than any of us if saffell is ready to become the offensive line coach or if there's somebody else out there who is better qualified to develop the o-line room heading into 2025 spring ball

one thing is for sure, the days of the wideouts NOT BLOCKING are over in berkeley, a noted obsessive compulsive hard azz who micro manages every detail, harsin is gonna lay the foundation/expectation with the new bears wr coach that relentless violent blocking to support the run game is as IMPORTANT as making receptions in the downfield vertical passing game

that message never got clearly communicated by toler & bloesch, the bears wuz the worst downfield blocking wideout room in college football at any level during the 2024 season, that **** is gonna change!!
