No HS players brought in under Wilcox at ANY position have ever been developed into NFL draft picks. The only player Wilcox brought in that was drafted (so far) was McMorris, who transferred in from SDSU (not recruited out of high school) despite good grades and being the younger brother of one of my favorite grossly underused Cal players (prototypical, no unprecedented, H-back edge blocker/receiver) .

It is not a coincidence that our four best recruiters (talent in) are relatively young and black (with the best being a Cal guy). Talent development on the offensive side is another story. I still don't understand your defense of Andrew Browning: poor recruiter, poor developer of the talent we get.

What is needed on offense is a great innovative young mind like Marion at UNLV. He then needs to be able to put together his staff. I don't understand your endorsement of Ron Gould at OC.

What I expect next year is more of the same we have seen for 8 years. I'd love to be surprised.

dp tour in south africa: 2nd round update

wearing shorts in a tournament for probably the 1st time since his cal days & playing in brutal oppressive heat in the southern hemisphere max homa stood on the tee box of the par 3 16th hole with a 2 stroke lead...but a double cross 6 iron pulled 50 yards left of the green (despite his alex noren practice swings) on the 16th & then a ballooned 6 iron into the lake on the watery par 17th hole resulted in back to back double bogeys...that's golf, that's sports, **** happens

but then homa showed his competitive spirit & rolled in a critical 15 footer from the fringe on the par 4 18th hole to save his par & finish with a 75 & tied for 4th

this golf course (which is reminiscent of my beloved desert forest in carefree) is firming up to fiery speeds under the baking african sun, max gotta cool down tonite with a cold bath/great nite's sleep & make sure his electrolyte levels are up tomorrow with a wet towel around his neck (this isn't about appearances, max) as the defending champion is still only 2 stokes off the lead with 36 holes to go...homa is still the man to beat!!



the last man standing will win this tournament (sure as kilimanjaro rises like olympus above the serengeti)#

Not sure what you saw, or if she is under the weather, etc. but your bash of King is way off the mark...not the reputation she has, or the regard she has from Charmin; talked specifically about her with Charmin during Auburn football weekend (yes, as part of the "invited" booster group) because of King's HS roots in Philly.

I think it remains to be seen if she is the "point guard of the future" considering the recruiting Cal just finished off....

SMU didn't get featured on the big networks much, maybe because ESPN didn't believe in them being a real contender until late in the season. I suspect they will be better next year.

lyons outlined some of the existential financial challenges heading towards berkeley with reduced future state of california support & downsized federal grants projected in the future...yet the chancellor has not given a clear mandate that the financially hemorrhaging (via loans from the central campus that will never have the future revenues for repayment) athletic department needs to cut sport teams (teams such as rugby should be club sports with zero university funding) & reduce bureaucratic costs at this time but unrealistically thinks donors are gonna continue to donate to the athletic department

lyons made it clear that he supports the revenue sports but that there will be consequences if they don't win big in the very near future...but he's gonna keep knowlton which means markeisha will continue to not offer FREE tixs to all students...as a failing dei hire everett has done absolutely nothing to brand/market/grow the cal football fanbase at memorial stadium while increasing the # of tarps...and both the men's & women's basketball programs are also not generating more gameday revenues with an empty haas pavillion despite clear demand for affordable basketball tixs in the bay area (the valkyries got 20,000+ season tix deposits)


lyons favors reducing costs for programs that cannot raise enough funds to operate autonomously but that is flawed reasoning...for instance the baseball team has spent nearly all the original funds raised by stu gordon & next season the ncca is increasing the # of schollys from 11 to 34 which will be necessary in order to be competitive in the acc...so instead of just cutting baseball which got minimal fan interest for a roster that is predominantly middle class white young men and repurposing evans diamond for the greater good of the berkeley campus, the lyons plan would just reduce their schollys to some minimal # which would result in them losing big time in the acc with exponentially increased travel costs

lyons is willing to fund the internal nil for the upcoming year & realizes he's gonna take a lotta heat from the greater berkeley academic community but isn't willing to make a change in the failed leadership of the athletic department today & then transparently cutting sports (self sufficient club sports)/reducing costs immediately

bottom line, after decades on the berkeley campus rich wuz in a position on day 1 to direct dan mogulof to terminate knowlton & jenny while demoting markeisha but he's opted to instead further fund & allow the irresponsible financial spending of the athletic department to continue while asking non receptive fatigued donors for bail out money to pay for the current bureaucratic bloat

shocky loves rich's spirit & good intentions but 100% disagrees with his non transparent plan to not replace immediately replace failing management & streamline costs in the athletic department...the lyons plan would never work in the REAL WORLD or corporate america & it's not gonna work at the current #1 ranked public university in the world

Protecting and continuing to pay Knowlton $millions to avoid paying the rightful claims of the swimmers is heinous. it is evil. I don't even think it is the right legal strategy.

The hope that Lyons would be the AD we need to make radical change within the system starting with the removal of Knowlton appears to be dead. At least until the impending financial is so horrible thst his hand is forced at which point it is probably too late.

Only one out of the box option left: A proposal from the big donors to Lyons to outsource the management and marketing of the revenue sports to an alumni run not for profit that would pay the coaches and players and replace Learfield. The other big selling point to Lyons is this avoids the players ever being university employees. They would be employed by the alumni newco.

The sports the newco would manage are the minimum currently required for ACC membership: football, mens and womens basketball and women's soccer.

Olympic sports could continue on the amateur, even Ivy or donor funded model competing in the Big West against mostly the other UCs (and Stanford) to reduce travel costs.

This would allow the university to cut the bloated athletics department to the bare minimum of a few normally paid university bureaucrats to oversee the Olympic sports.

to be honest with you this fall's road schedule of auburn with slim wadie (peachtree, shoal creek & wicker point), tallahassee (seminole), pittsburgh (merion & oakmont), winston-salem (old town), berkeley (sf golf, olympic lake & brambles) with dallas (highland park, trinity forest & buc-ee's) later this month has been the most FUN (and yeah frustrating too at time) schedule in the history of my california golden bears football fandom!!

yeah the pac 12 is clearly in the rearview mirrah (**** boring azz lily white eugene & salt lake city), shocky 100% loves the new infusion of energy/experiences with the acc, thx christy!!

dp tour in south africa: 3rd round update

swearing like a drunk azz sailor on shore leave with his regular caddie joey greiner back home in arcadia (and his sub whisper rock caddie kinda mute) max homa threw a dozen plus f bombs in an annoyed round of golf in southern hemisphere 42 temps (110% degrees) en route to a gutty 72 & is tied for 4th only 4 stokes behind an unproven south african leader (aldrich's nerves will be tested) who will surely find sleep difficult prior to the final round

max continued his love affair with the par 5 9th hole (who knew max got good wheels)!!


the key to the round wuz the par 5 14th hole when the berkeley grad pulled it into the left bush & then did it again with his provisional shot...staring a potential meltdown 10 in the face, max found his 1st ball & somehow chipped out thru a narrow window & then managed to salvage a critical par 5!!

homanation is 6 over par this week on the challenging par 3s

yeah golf is hard, max gotta keep his emotions under control mañana just like it wuz a casual round back in north scottsdale & stay focused/hydrated & ****

lyons outlined some of the existential financial challenges heading towards berkeley with reduced future state of california support & downsized federal grants projected in the future...yet the chancellor has not given a clear mandate that the financially hemorrhaging (via loans from the central campus that will never have the future revenues for repayment) athletic department needs to cut sport teams (teams such as rugby should be club sports with zero university funding) & reduce bureaucratic costs at this time but unrealistically thinks donors are gonna continue to donate to the athletic department

lyons made it clear that he supports the revenue sports but that there will be consequences if they don't win big in the very near future...but he's gonna keep knowlton which means markeisha will continue to not offer FREE tixs to all students...as a failing dei hire everett has done absolutely nothing to brand/market/grow the cal football fanbase at memorial stadium while increasing the # of tarps...and both the men's & women's basketball programs are also not generating more gameday revenues with an empty haas pavillion despite clear demand for affordable basketball tixs in the bay area (the valkyries got 20,000+ season tix deposits)


lyons favors reducing costs for programs that cannot raise enough funds to operate autonomously but that is flawed reasoning...for instance the baseball team has spent nearly all the original funds raised by stu gordon & next season the ncca is increasing the # of schollys from 11 to 34 which will be necessary in order to be competitive in the acc...so instead of just cutting baseball which got minimal fan interest for a roster that is predominantly middle class white young men and repurposing evans diamond for the greater good of the berkeley campus, the lyons plan would just reduce their schollys to some minimal # which would result in them losing big time in the acc with exponentially increased travel costs

lyons is willing to fund the internal nil for the upcoming year & realizes he's gonna take a lotta heat from the greater berkeley academic community but isn't willing to make a change in the failed leadership of the athletic department today & then transparently cutting sports (self sufficient club sports)/reducing costs immediately

bottom line, after decades on the berkeley campus rich wuz in a position on day 1 to direct dan mogulof to terminate knowlton & jenny while demoting markeisha but he's opted to instead further fund & allow the irresponsible financial spending of the athletic department to continue while asking non receptive fatigued donors for bail out money to pay for the current bureaucratic bloat

shocky loves rich's spirit & good intentions but 100% disagrees with his non transparent plan to not replace immediately replace failing management & streamline costs in the athletic department...the lyons plan would never work in the REAL WORLD or corporate america & it's not gonna work at the current #1 ranked public university in the world

rich is an outstanding human being on planet earth & we're very lucky to have a FUN chancellor who truly bleeds blue & gold, just hoping he will reconsider his strategic direction, go bears!!

the truth of the matter is that everett is an arrogant non innovative worthless bureaucrat who basically tole me to **** off when i approached her on the field during pregame warm ups on a football gameday to lobby for FREE tixs for all students in order to imprint future season tix buyers & grow the pipeline of future Builders of Berkeley

don't bother trying to label me as a far right wing conservative, shocky (who is a critically thinking independent) has posted his disdain for trump after spending 5+ hours playing golf/dining at lunch with the prez elect & any election denier which undermines democracy in the united states of america

shocky believes in the redistribution of wealth in america thru elite educational opportunities at generational family life changing institutions such as cal, stanford & the ivy leagues for those willing to do the HARD WORK in earning a degree, he does not believe in allowing people to steal **** or people getting free ***** (including paychecks)
