Just boarded the plane! Lots of Auburn fans making the trip. Think yall will be surprised at how many fans we bring.

After watching both games, the teams seem evenly matched. Lot of questions though. Did either of the opponents (U Mass or NT) really give an adequate test? At least Cal won on the road. I expect a close game. Would be ecstatic for a Cal win but kind of expect the Tigers to win (by 10). As usual, turnovers will be a key stat. If Jackson starts and stays healthy, his mobility could give Auburn fits but Auburn also has also a 2 way threat. As for Finley, he looks great at times but also threw a couple of near picks that Auburn could turn into actual picks. If Ott and baby Marshawn can do half of what they did against North Texas, Cal could pull the upset.

You just equated North Texas football with Sac State football. Seriously?dimitrig said:Sebastabear said:If 45 points would shock you then the 58 points Cal scored (checks watch) five days ago must have killed you. That was against a cupcake. I don't mean against the Sacramento States of the world.

I just think it's unfair to Cal football to dismiss a convincing Bears win over a decent AAC school like North Texas. No one's confusing North Texas with the tea-sippers over in Austin or the cow-tippers down in College Station, but Cal just beat a solid Group of 5 school, on the road, in near 100 degree heat, by 37 points. That's as good of a season-opening win as any Cal fan could have reasonably expected. Thanks to that win, it will make for a very compelling early season matchup with Auburn.dimitrig said:BearBoarBlarney said:You just equated North Texas football with Sac State football. Yes. Are you confusing North Texas with that school in Austin?
North Texas is a middle-to-good FBS G5 team (made minor bowl games each of the last three years). They are not an FCS team.dimitrig said:BearBoarBlarney said:You just equated North Texas football with Sac State football. Week 1 is great, but not indicative of the rest of the season. We had a convincing win against Arizona last year and then had back to back embarrassing losses against WSU and CU the following weeks.BearBoarBlarney said:I just think it's unfair to Cal football to dismiss a convincing Bears win over a decent AAC school like North Texas. I think there's a strange tendency amongst a certain segment of Cal fans to dismiss the legitimate accomplishments of the Cal football and hoops teams. I'm certainly not accusing you of being in that vocal minority, but I just don't get why we can't celebrate what was a legit road win over an opponent that is a heckuva lot better than Sac State (with apologies to any Hornets fans).

No doubt most long-time Cal football fans understand the value of being cautious and tempering expectations.DoubtfulBear said:

Dropping that many points on Auburn is unlikely, but I will point out that this was the first game since returning to our previous offensive coordinator who used to drop 40 points regularly.dimitrig said:
My comment was not that Cal didn't have a good showing against UNT or that they can't win against Auburn. It is that I really doubt we will hang 45 on them. If we do it will be a pleasant surprise because we did that just once last year, zero times the year before, zero times the year before that, twice the year before (one was against Idaho State), and none the year before that.
So in Wilcox's entire tenure before this year Cal has scored 45 or more just 3 times in 5 seasons before this year.
To then point at UNT and think we could do that against Auburn…
I hope I am pleasantly surprised but I predicted Cal will win. I just don't think they drop 45.

Had a wonderful time out here and can't wait to get back. You guys obviously should have won and Wilcox knows how to call a defense and make the offense fight for every yard.
War Damn Eagle, Go Bears, and can't wait to host y'all next September in Auburn.
Auburn and bama did not play for 41 years. in 1908, the players got into a fight, the fans joined in, and they just couldn't agree on anything for decades. during that time, Georgia Tech was our biggest rival. Our first football game was against Georgia, the second against Georgia Tech. Auburn is only about 30 miles from the state of Georgia and typically 1/3 of our team comes from there.Eastern Oregon Bear said:
Interesting Auburn factoid: Their arch rival Alabama mentions Georgia, Georgia Tech and Tennessee in their various school fight songs. They do not have a fight song that mentions Auburn.
I'm not sure what you could do with that info, but maybe some creative taunting could be done.
