Credit where credit is due, burning 1 TO to try a hard count was smart.
Wonder which assistant convinced Wilcox on that.

Only a Freshman and he is special.

Story of this season - how often will talented young QB be able to overcome inept head coach?
Other than that, looked like a typiCAL early season contest where Cal has more talent than their opponent and causes irrational undeserved optimism on the Premium board while Growls waits for the other shoe to drop against better competition.

Last year, was the team trying to overcome Wilcox. Now the talent has left, it's JKS trying to overcome Wilcox.
Unfortunately we have a lot of lackluster opponents on the schedule.. worst case scenario is he pads his wins with a pitifully easy schedule and we're stuck with him for an actual DECADE!!! A DECADE OF OUR LIVES as CAL FANS ruined by this piece of *****

Can we tone down the hate a bit? I'm not a big fan of Wilcox, but this team looks improved at all aspects. Although, the pass blocking looks pretty good, I am concerned about the run blocking. Hopefully, that can get better.

The play on the field was encouraging. Some stuff to work on...receiver drops, run blocking could use some work...
But the concern is it was the same old Wilcox decision making.
Playing for the field goal at the end of the half bailed out by the fact we made a 49 yard field goal.
4th quarter obviuos runs up the middle on offense until 3rd and long.
Defense taking the foot off the gas up big letting the other team score easily.
The last one pisses me off the most. Our defense is best when they are aggressive. Aggressive D is fun to play in. You could see the swagger the players were playing with against Miami last year. The defense was the aggressor and they were winning and asserting their will and they were fealing it.
Then we went soft D and they lost their swagger. We could get away with it vs Oregon State (a team we beat 44-7 last year). We cannot get away with that against better competition.

I know it's midnight on the East Coast but you all need to flip on the Cal game right now and experience Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele.

After the joy of being in the stadium last night and watching a dominant win that was never in doubt, it makes me a little sad to read this thread this morning, with all the negativity.
Are we so scarred as a fan base that we can't even enjoy a good opening win?
I realize it was far from perfect, but can we save the hate until we actually lose?
Less than half the teams in the country are undefeated, and we're one of them. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Go Bears!

NEW: It was a welcome to the show moment for a lot of Cal players yesterday. The OL didn't allow a sack, Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele exhibited poise beyond his years, and Cal put together a win where many took care of business
