i could see merit in either deicision of going up by 3 scores or getting 1 more yard. i like the fact that we ran our team out there to try to draw an offside . that is good coaching, for once

Tedford would have tried the FG.

Credit where credit is due, burning 1 TO to try a hard count was smart.

Wonder which assistant convinced Wilcox on that.

So happy to see we are actually able to run the ball and run out the clock on someone.

Truly an enigma, since they are all just as stupid as he is

Story of this season - how often will talented young QB be able to overcome inept head coach?

Other than that, looked like a typiCAL early season contest where Cal has more talent than their opponent and causes irrational undeserved optimism on the Premium board while Growls waits for the other shoe to drop against better competition.

Last year, was the team trying to overcome Wilcox. Now the talent has left, it's JKS trying to overcome Wilcox.

Unfortunately we have a lot of lackluster opponents on the schedule.. worst case scenario is he pads his wins with a pitifully easy schedule and we're stuck with him for an actual DECADE!!! A DECADE OF OUR LIVES as CAL FANS ruined by this piece of *****

i m getting ahead of myself, i am very afraid that we squeak out a 8 win season with a bowl win for 9 wins (which IMO is slightly below average given our schedule) and wilcox gets a 3 year extension

Can we tone down the hate a bit? I'm not a big fan of Wilcox, but this team looks improved at all aspects. Although, the pass blocking looks pretty good, I am concerned about the run blocking. Hopefully, that can get better.

JKS is a real deal.
OL solid.
RB serviceable.
ST serviceable.
Defense solid.
WR dropped passes :-(

Lynn's, RR, Offense Coaching staff made a difference.
Excited about the new era of Cal Football.

Go Bears more butts in the seats!

Big test versus Minnesota in a couple weeks. Think we will know much more after that result and going forward.

Both run and pass blocking appear to be much improved. The receivers have to work on getting separation downfield so that JKS doesn't have to throw into double coverage on every pass longer than 10 yards.

The play on the field was encouraging. Some stuff to work on...receiver drops, run blocking could use some work...

But the concern is it was the same old Wilcox decision making.

Playing for the field goal at the end of the half bailed out by the fact we made a 49 yard field goal.
4th quarter obviuos runs up the middle on offense until 3rd and long.
Defense taking the foot off the gas up big letting the other team score easily.

The last one pisses me off the most. Our defense is best when they are aggressive. Aggressive D is fun to play in. You could see the swagger the players were playing with against Miami last year. The defense was the aggressor and they were winning and asserting their will and they were fealing it.

Then we went soft D and they lost their swagger. We could get away with it vs Oregon State (a team we beat 44-7 last year). We cannot get away with that against better competition.

Really couldn't have asked for a better first week. Team dominated a lesser opponent. JKS is special, special teams were excellent and the coaches had them well prepared.
Ulauve is a stud and Masses could be our next DB in the NFL.

Thanks for having reasoned concerns, instead of some of the other twaddle on this thread.

I will give him credit for going for it on 4th downs to try to slam the door on OSU, not sure old Wilcox would have done that.

The national media definitely took notice of JKS last night. This is a potentially huge opportunity for the program (yet again). If he keeps this up it will mean eyeballs on Cal and us getting good TV slots and being talked up on ESPN all year.

After the joy of being in the stadium last night and watching a dominant win that was never in doubt, it makes me a little sad to read this thread this morning, with all the negativity.

Are we so scarred as a fan base that we can't even enjoy a good opening win?

I realize it was far from perfect, but can we save the hate until we actually lose?

Less than half the teams in the country are undefeated, and we're one of them. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Go Bears!
