Wow, this is getting way OT .Hey Vandalus, I'm from Oaktown also, ( 20 years your senior ) and we said that a long long time ago.. They still say " blood "?? Thought it was more " Sup bro ? " now. :bluecarrot:
I grew up in San Diego. But I've heard blood used a lot here, but my suspicion is that it's not gang affiliated in Oakland.
I was on my phone earlier and could not watch the video of him with DeAngelo Hall. I don't now what that hand sign is that he's doing there. If the LAPD thinks its something unique to a particular neighborhood, that might be accurate. I know of only one specific Long Beach Crips gang sign, and that isn't it, but certainly there are probably hundreds in LA alone that go beyond just the standard crip sign, so it's plausible. But even if he did, I still believe he's not an active gang member.
If the NFL banned every player who grew up in a gang neighborhood who still uses those signs/language, then a lot of guys would be kicked out. Guys use it as a rep thing - they grew up in a gang area, and they take on that as a badge of honor or identification. They are repping their neighborhood, just like they would rep their city by saying their elementary or high school in MNF intros. It's the same deal. I'm betting that DeAngelo Hall has used gang lingo while playing ball and no one says he's a gang member. I know plenty of Cal players used gang lingo all the time, and I highly doubt any of them were jumped in active gang members.
