Agreed. This is also far more enjoyable than the occasional bickering we get between huskies and ducks. I highly encourage the airing of intra-fanbase grievances here during game week.

As for it being unusual or not for a Mod to criticize coaches or players, it really depends on the board and the philosophy of the Mod staff there. On The Mesa we view ourselves as regular members who have the responsibility to keep things as civil and on topic as possible. We are big fans, long time fans (Aztec William first attended SDSU in 1960, and I went to my first Aztec game in 1970 at the age of 2 1/2) with strong opinions, and that never changed when we became the Mod staff.

On some boards the Mod staff chooses to refrain from much in the way of posting opinions or criticism. It really is different from board to board. Personally, I'd have a real problem with a Moderator who doesn't appear to care much about the topic or team. I prefer a Mod to be an open, opinionated fan of the team (or topic, depending on what the board is about). But that's just me.

And, yeah, I did go a little overboard Saturday night and Sunday morning, but the offensive showing was so bad that people in the stands were complaining about how boring the game was. It was a big game in that it was the SkyShow night (a local Classic Rock radio station hosts the event and has a HUGE fireworks display after the game, bringing in a lot of people that wouldn't otherwise come to an Aztec game), so it was important that the team look good and that the game was entertaining. When our offense had the ball the game was boring, not entertaining. They did a poor job of selling those casual fans on the team - and SDSU desperately needs a boost in attendance. Especially playing in a 70,000 seat NFL stadium. Even when we get a crowd of 40,000 the place still seems somewhat empty. And the program has been in financial deficit mode for the last 20+ years. That's a problem, too. So given all of that I vented my frustration. I attempted to do so in a reasoned, rational way, but I also did so very aggressively - which, for a Mod, can be a little unusual.

So there you go. The reason behind this thread even existing. I guess it has provided some entertainment value to someone...

1. You are 100% correct on that.

2. I will tell them why William. I work closely with the Athletic Department, but am not employed by the Athletic Dept. I am on Committees from Mascot to Fan Experience. I meet with the Athletic Director on these issues (3 times in the last 3 months). San Diego State Athletic Dept. is struggling for money. Every $ donated makes a difference. The Athletic Dept. has a rule...NO paid employees are to be on Aztec chat boards. And if any employee is ever heard saying the following to a donor, they will be fired..."We don't need your money". This rule is very important and in place to protect the University from employees spouting off when they get mad. My goal is to make SDSU Athletics the best it can be.

I identified a poster on Evil Mesa that was a paid employee on the football staff. In his excitement under an assumed name on Evil Mesa was calling me out on something (which is fine), and he said..."Nobody in the department likes you. In fact they wish you would quit donating. Just go away" . I replied to him...That was not too smart and I will now contact your boss. All the sudden the poster wasn't so cocky.

I did not know the exact name of the kid and had no intentions of using his name. I emailed Rocky Long and Athletic Director Jim Sterk (and I know both of them pretty well) and I advised them to review their policy with their employees in the name of making the program better and not losing donations. They agreed they would. They never asked who the person was and I never mentioned who I thought it was. I was simply protecting the program.

Awik (Eric) used this as a reason to ban me. He banned a fan, who had donated 100's of hours toward the program, spent 2 1/2 years of his life on an issue to help the program (non paid), who only wants to help the program.

***Special note. I also had done that on 3 previous boards, and was praised by the MOD's and fans for doing so. WE CAN NOT BE TELLING DONORS TO NOT DONATE. We don't get $20 million a year from TV money.

And William and Erik...I will do that again...in the name of protecting our great University and our money starved football program if the same situation happens again.

3. True. You guys don't always agree. My only problem with you William is that Aztec Mesa is your board and you have allowed Erik to destroy it and turn it into Evil Mesa.

4. You didn't build Evil Mesa...The previous board closed and you inherited the posters. You have then since lost about 30 of the best posters. Your board is a shell of what it once was.

I first attended Fullerton Junior College (Anybody remember Hal Sherbeck?) and then transferrred to SDSU in '62. I will never forget attending a football rally that Fall. Don Coryell was the MC. I'm pretty sure that John Madden was one of his assistants at the rally; possibly one or two other future coaches as well. Those were the days!)

It was '70, even if I can't remember that game. The first game I actually remember was probably from '72, we were in the upper deck in late November, I was wearing a heavy jacket but was still FREEZING. It was cold with an icy wind.
