He loves it in Berkeley, other threads have told us that, but Missouri is his dream job

Tediford's agent was really good at this stuff too - why Tedford extension was a costly disaster.

Can't imagine Sonny Dykes landing the Missouri job. I think his agent is doing a good job keeping his name in the papers and establishing him as a "candidate" at other places.

Is this in bad form though or is this completely acceptable as normal "free agency" discussions like in baseball?

It's more troubling for our coach to be doing this, in this situation. Or am I reading this all wrong? Is this just business and no big deal (and this could all be moot if he signs the extension)?

Saturday evening Clay Helton's agent told Pat Haden that Memphis had offered Helton their head coaching job and they needed an answer by Sunday noon. Haden got nervous and that's when they pulled the trigger on a deal.

It's only one state over from Texas.
Well "hot" coaches are interviewed all the time, like pretty much the entire WAC head coaching fraternity after the 2012 season. But it seems kind of messed up in this situation. It's like Sonny should be the one grateful for a Cal extension, after barely making it to 7-5 (very impressive win v. ASU, but 0-12 and 0-5 in the gaunlet + Furd). It's more troubling for our coach to be doing this, in this situation. Or am I reading this all wrong? Is this just business and no big deal (and this could all be moot if he signs the extension)?

Jeff Tedford.

It's a tough racket. Mostly, you're either moving up or out. I don't blame him for gauging his market value and if he could land an SEC job after this gig, more power to him as I don't think that's coming around again

I don't mind him doing it now, but I did have a problem with him doing it when we only had 5 wins and we were struggling to get to the 6th win
First: Accomplish something.
Then: Complain or seek new employment via the media.
His 7-5 record makes him look really sexy.
I went from wanting Dykes gone (first half of ASUC game) to really appreciating the job he's done and defending his 0-12 record (after the ASU game) to feeling indifferent (after reading Wilner's sobering article).
Quote:
"My sense is that Cal fans simply waiting for him to win a game that matters to them. He's 0-12 vs Stanford/Ore/USC/UCLA"
"Also, narrative that Dykes has gone from 1 to 5 to 7 wins misleading: Bears had better talent than 1-11 '13."

His overall record is 13-23, Missouri fans will be pissed if that is the best hire that could get.
