No wonder he seemed so relaxed during the ASU game.

His overall record is 13-23, Missouri fans will be pissed if that is the best hire that could get.

If they could afford him, I'll say Mark Richt to Mizzou.

This could be an indication that Dykes feels that his market value peaks now. With Goff expected to be gone, perhaps he is expecting the team to take a step back next year, so now is the time to maximize his opportunities.

Edit: Whoops, concordtom said the same thing.

Very curious to see where Richt ends up... South Carolina, Missouri or maybe Virginia, where he actually interviewed before taking the UGA gig back in the day.

Wonder if he senses the negativity, even the ones before his hire

Apparently, he interviews well so he probably likes his chances.

Why wouldn't Mizzou go after Richt or Kirby Smart instead? Can do better than Sonny. Hope Williams doesn't panic.

If Sonny leaves now, he would owe us a $1.5M buyout! For once we could be on the winning side of one of these things monetarily.

I view this news as such:
Coach knows that his team is going to suck next year after Goff and all those WR's are gone. Tough to negotiate a new deal, let alone have your resume looking good, after a 3-8 season. Coach probably reasons: I'd better get while the getting is good.

This seems very plausible.

This is his agent trying to create leverage as they negotiate the extension.

This is the business. Funny story I heard last night... Saturday evening Clay Helton's agent told Pat Haden that Memphis had offered Helton their head coaching job and they needed an answer by Sunday noon. Haden got nervous and that's when they pulled the trigger on a deal... Think about that for a second. SC beat out Memphis for their head coach.

Tediford's agent was really good at this stuff too - why Tedford extension was a costly disaster.

Please don't get sucked into that trap.

Our A.D. could panic and offer a 4 year extension. We'll see now whether Williams is cut up for this job.

I actually know some Mizzou alumni who live in the Bay Area and who follow CFB closely. I doubt they'll be happy but I'll check later.

Me OTOH, if Dykes is happier elsewhere, follow your bliss. Life is too short.

If SD is gone, thank you for getting academics on the right track and being a decent person.

Tedford got that crazy extension so he wouldn't leave in the middle of the tree sitters...thus leaving UC without a coach but with protesters and a $500m project online but without a coach. Tedford was thus given a fat extension to stay. He was the insurance policy and Sandy Barbour was happy to pay it.

Here's a St. Louis Dispatch report confirming Pat Forde's report.

If you start at 1-11, you can only go upward.

Sorry, SD is a nice guy but he can't win against good teams in the P12. He's 0-12 against Furd, UCLA and USC. Those aren't subjective measures, those are standard measures in football: wins.

D&mn it Sonny, you should be in LA recruiting offensive and defensive lineman!

Actually Tedford got his last extension after the 9-4 season of 2008 which bothered some around here because it was somewhat undeserving and ultimately bit us in the ass. It was the Phil Fulmer syndrome at Tennessee whereby a coach got an automatic extension after a 9-win season, which in modern college football does not match with the aims of winning a conference title or making the playoff.

I hope Dykes at least isn't expensing this trip and pretending he's recruiting.

An underwhelming list of candidates Mizzou is considering per that article. All midmajor guys plus Dykes. Wells has basically treaded water at USU. Bobo went 7-5 at CSU in his one year. Calhoun has been at AF for 9 years and done fairly well but nothing spectacular. This season he did win his division for the first time. This is the company Dykes is in apparently.

As for Richt, I saw elsewhere that he interviewed with Miami.

And 2008 was during the building...just starting out. Let me just say - I've been in similar situations where I was hired/kept on as insurance because the other option is implosion. I think if Tedford left during the renovation it would have been BIG TROUBLE, especially with the big donors backing the project. I'm sure they could have backed out at any point if something like that happened.

Would be surprised if Butch Davis does not get that job, otherwise Richt would be very attractive at Missouri despite his last few years at Georgia, and he would be back coaching in the SEC East.

Said after the ASU game that Todd Graham should have left after last season. Sonny knows his value is peaking now and an SEC gig would save face for Cal and Sonny. Not so much for Mizzou.

Losing Snyder was bad. Bears upgraded after Boyle to UVa. Dave ONeil (w crew) to Texas and Kevin Grimes (w soccer) to ASU were no big deal. Greg Meehan (m swim asst to w head coach) was a tacit surrender by LSJU.

Well Dykes is the only name mentioned in the headline and his picture is shown with the story. That suggests he's got something or other on the other guys.

Ride Goff till the end and we outta here cause 2016 might be harsh.

Sonny should and likely will take the opportunity, if it materializes for him, and run. With Goff likely gone after this season next year is going to be a disaster. Imagine this year or last without Goff? With another year of Maynard or Riley, etc. Yikes... next year is looking to be a 3 win season, including (hopefully), our ever valued FCS opponent. He has this one chance to bounce and move up, or at least laterally, and I think he will definitely take it if given the chance. Who wouldn't? He has no future at Cal and in the Pac-12. 0-12 against the big four with a NFL caliber QB doesn't suggest Dykes is ever going to get much success at Cal.

I assume you meant to add oregon, since he has only played furd, ucla and usc a total of 9 games in three seasons. It is a fair point to look at the facts.

Even better! I thought it was $3 mil and reduced by $750k each year like our buyout for him, but I guess I misread or my source (Wilner from a few years ago) was wrong.

Sell-high proposition for Sonny. Future doesn't look too bright with the likely talent exodus and mediocre recruiting classes in recent years.
