His overall record is 13-23, Missouri fans will be pissed if that is the best hire that could get.

If they could afford him, I'll say Mark Richt to Mizzou.

I view this news as such:
Coach knows that his team is going to suck next year after Goff and all those WR's are gone. Tough to negotiate a new deal, let alone have your resume looking good, after a 3-8 season. Coach probably reasons: I'd better get while the getting is good.

This is his agent trying to create leverage as they negotiate the extension.
This is the business. Funny story I heard last night... Saturday evening Clay Helton's agent told Pat Haden that Memphis had offered Helton their head coaching job and they needed an answer by Sunday noon. Haden got nervous and that's when they pulled the trigger on a deal... Think about that for a second. SC beat out Memphis for their head coach.

Tediford's agent was really good at this stuff too - why Tedford extension was a costly disaster.

Please don't get sucked into that trap.

If Sonny leaves now, he would owe us a $1.5M buyout! For once we could be on the winning side of one of these things monetarily.

Wonder if he senses the negativity, even the ones before his hire
BearDevil;842606044 said:
Why wouldn't Mizzou go after Richt or Kirby Smart instead? Can do better than Sonny. Hope Williams doesn't panic.
beelzebear;842606048 said:
I actually know some Mizzou alumni who live in the Bay Area and who follow CFB closely. I doubt they'll be happy but I'll check later.
Me OTOH, if Dykes is happier elsewhere, follow your bliss. Life is too short.
If SD is gone, thank you for getting academics on the right track and being a decent person.

And improving our team
beelzebear;842606053 said:
Tedford got that crazy extension so he wouldn't leave in the middle of the tree sitters...thus leaving UC without a coach but with protesters and a $500m project online but without a coach. Tedford was thus given a fat extension to stay. He was the insurance policy and Sandy Barbour was happy to pay it.
Strykur;842606065 said:
Actually Tedford got his last extension after the 9-4 season of 2008 which bothered some around here because it was somewhat undeserving and ultimately bit us in the ass. It was the Phil Fulmer syndrome at Tennessee whereby a coach got an automatic extension after a 9-win season, which in modern college football does not match with the aims of winning a conference title or making the playoff.

As for Richt, I saw elsewhere that he interviewed with Miami.

An underwhelming list of candidates Mizzou is considering per that article. All midmajor guys plus Dykes. Wells has basically treaded water at USU. Bobo went 7-5 at CSU in his one year. Calhoun has been at AF for 9 years and done fairly well but nothing spectacular. This season he did win his division for the first time. This is the company Dykes is in apparently.
BearDevil;842606082 said:
Said after the ASU game that Todd Graham should have left after last season. Sonny knows his value is peaking now and an SEC gig would save face for Cal and Sonny. Not so much for Mizzou.
Losing Snyder was bad. Bears upgraded after Boyle to UVa. Dave ONeil (w crew) to Texas and Kevin Grimes (w soccer) to ASU were no big deal. Greg Meehan (m swim asst to w head coach) was a tacit surrender by LSJU.
oskirules;842606084 said:
Ride Goff till the end and we outta here cause 2016 might be harsh.
BunzOfAnarchy;842606083 said:
Well Dykes is the only name mentioned in the headline and his picture is shown with the story. That suggests he's got something or other on the other guys.
beelzebear;842606062 said:
If you start at 1-11, you can only go upward.
Sorry, SD is a nice guy but he can't win against good teams in the P12. He's 0-12 against Furd, UCLA and USC. Those aren't subjective measures, those are standard measures in football: wins.

Or $2 million, per this report:

Even better! I thought it was $3 mil and reduced by $750k each year like our buyout for him, but I guess I misread or my source (Wilner from a few years ago) was wrong.
