You obviously don't know anything about Texas or Texans. I hope you don't believe all that nice stuff Dykes has allegedly said about living in the Bay Area; that's just spin for the media, the Cal administration, and Cal loyalists. And as far as the Bay Area vs. Waco, the vast majority of native Texans can't stand the liberal politics of the Bay Area or the high taxes and cost of living in California. As much as we like the Bay Area, that feeling is far from universal, whether you choose to believe that or not.

Wow ... tough to disagree cuz you KNOW Dykes' mind and what he really thinks, doncha .. :p

At least Baylor has a decent-sized video screen, unlike our ridiculous minitrons.

So you're saying size matters.

Baylor will have to pay up big time (dinero, years, and buyout) and pretty clear Baylor will be a mid major after the next reshuffle yields four 16 team super conferences.

I likes art briles and thought he was a really good coach. but I also agree with his dismissal however his dismissal started a long time ago. it is a huge mistake to allow rapes, shootings etc to go unpunished. but the real mistake is to have a college football situation that allows rapists, muggers, killers etc into college in the first place.

prior to allowing unqualified students into schools these types of crimes rarely occurred. Its one thing to allow student athletes into school that fall short of the normal qualifications but that is not the case at present particularly in football. a large number of players coming into college on football scholarships are totally unqualified students. in addition there should be major research into a potential athlete's past background. there should be high minimum standards and a majority of these problems will go away.

look at the schools that currently have high standards Stanford, duke, northwestern, nd, and you simply will not find the type of problems that u find at schools that have lower standards for admitting athletes. when u check the headlines on espn for football both college and pro u will always see a high proportion of headlines that deal with crimes. this does not happen with other sports.

like boxing football is clearly on its way out for the mainstream population. it will be a way out of the ghetto so problems that we currently are seeing will only get worse if changes are not made.

One major justification for HS football is that it keeps kids from dropping out ... that they stay in school being passed from grade to grade, heading towards "graduation" with no regard for learning ("education") is the result. Programs (and leagues) without standards eagerly go for them ... gotta get an NC, right?

I'm listening to Mandel/Feldman's podcast, and Feldman name-drops Dykes for the Baylor job.

(A search of Twitter, meanwhile, for "Sonny Dykes" doesn't yield that many people connecting him to Baylor._

He is an immediate practical candidate, but this is not something we need to worry about until the next offseason. Also Baylor is looking at NCAA sanctions from this.

Saying someone from Texas would prefer Waco because they're originally from Texas is as dumb as saying a random Californian would prefer San Bernardino because he's originally from CA. I doubt kate has any problems fitting in in Piedmont or whatever Country Club Cal paid for.

Bingo. If you move from the Bay Area across the country and you feel
Homesick - does that make you want to move to Clovis or Fresno? I doubt it.

Waco is way down my list of favorite places in Texas. Some decent rapids on Brazos nearby. Hamburger and a Big O at Oscars is good. Used to have good chicken place, Leslie's but it closed. Texas Ranger Hall of Fame. That is about it. Branch Davidians, biker shootouts, murdered basketball players, serial rapists on scholarship- I am just going to bypass the place in future. Take backroad through Hico, Hamilton etc. More scenic and far less chaos. We Texans are by definition crazy and proud of it but Waco and that smug university are out of control even by our standards and in need of a Reformation.

I think the scary question no one is asking or answering is: what does it say about collegiate football that there is seeming direct correlation between bringing in "criminals" and success in the sport?

For a fan, it's disturbing to consider the personaility traits that you are in effect cheering for, and supporting an activity where it seems that brutish, low character people thrive. What is it about a person who will sexually assault a woman and have little or no conscience (and a feeling of total propriety), and their ability be a star in the sport? Are they truly just caged animals? Gladiators?

I'm not suggesting that every football player is a criminal or that the sport makes them that way. It's just odd the high percentage of athletes who are of low moral character who also do well at this particular sport.

Winston was the number one pick in the NFL draft after being accused of rape. Tunsil fell in the draft for a gas mask bong and getting money from a coach. Which behaviors are worse on college campuses and society in general?

I've driven through Waco about a half dozen times, but stay on the main roads, mostly Hwy 6. Except for Lake Waco, nothing to see. It looks like your average mid sized city. But with its history, it has a creepy feeling, which is another reason I only pass through and have never stopped.

From doormat to national power in a very short time, always suspicious. Next time try to do it the right way, whatever that is. Not that long ago we scored over 70 points against the Baylor Bears that should be enough to raise serious questions.

Totally agree. Even Urban Meyer and Harbaugh, two really good turn around artists take time, and usually dump a lot of existing players in the interim (sorta like Sonny). Baylor really didm't do any of that.

That said, while I blame Baylor AD and President for lack of oversight, condemning an entire school or city is just plain absurd. Its like holding Cal responsible anytime Berkeley goes off the deep end.

As long as coaches can make generational wealth by comprising whatever morals they may have we will continue to see this. Art is probably very sorry. Art will probably not do this again if he gets another job because now he doesn't need to do this again. He's provided for his family even though he got fired after a few years as head coach. It's a big price to pay but obviously some coaches are willing to pay it. Rationalization is a wonderful thing.

no blame necessary except at the responsible levels and attach real penalties, personal and programmatic ....
shut down the football programs as they have no sense of responsibility and have lost the right to compete ...

and NCAA won't (corrupt and gutless) ... rapeU and pedoU will still field teams; smu is back in business and surprise they were ever punished for whatever

P.S. Cal does get 'blamed' whenever there's anything negative in Berkeley

Does seem like Waco pd sure tried to help them out. That said, I don't think anyone here has.
