And I'm saying right now that the decision to have the death of one White Walker cause multiple wights to die at once, especially to advance the stupid Beyond The Wall quest, is a tremendous cheat.
.

Wasn't this always part of the plot? Pleople are acting like this is some new plot contrivance, but I for one knew this was how it worked and wasn't surprised at all when a bunch of wights crumbled. Did I pull this from the books or am I conflating this with another fantasy series?

I'm with you. I felt like we saw this before.

If that's the way it works, it wasn't evident at Hardhome. I don't remember it in the books, either.

That said, I have no problem with it. There are so stinking many of them that there needs to be some kind of evening out process and I like it.

I honestly don't care. I'm with your earlier post - I watch for fun. I try not to analyze it too hard. But from a writing perspective, why is it necessary? Take out the leader and they all fall, or take out the leader and torch the rest with the dragons. Would have been cool, and not risk what some feel is a cop out plot twist.

Is it wrong to root for the the white walkers? They aren't particularly evil. Kind of like humanoid ants and termites trying to make their way in the world.

So . . . would you root for giant ants and termites to overrun the planet and exterminate humanity?

Yes, it would be wrong. It may be hard to differentiate who is right and who is wrong among the living, but there is no grey area when it comes to the living versus the dead. Which is also part of the reason why the show is not as shocking as it was in the beginning. In the beginning, there was really no one who was right or wrong, but instead just people who were really good or bad at the game. Now, even enemies will have to come together to fight for the common good, and it is much more about good versus evil.

White Walkers aren't dead. From the GoT wikia:

Author George R.R. Martin, when discussing with comic-book artist Tommy Patterson what the White Walkers were supposed to look like in the comic-book adaptation of the story he was drawing, said that: "They are strange, beautiful...think, oh...the Sidhe made of ice, something like that...a different sort of life...inhuman, elegant, dangerous." Martin also confirmed that the White Walkers are not "dead", just an inhuman kind of life.

They are able to reanimate and control the dead, but they are very much alive.

A "kind of life"....this may become another abortion debate.

I guess since the WWs want to convert all living into one of their mindless creatures, the living should have a clear and common rooting interest in the coming war.

They may not even want to do that. Remember they converted Craster's infant children into White Walkers. White Walkers use mindless zombies, but they are not mindless themselves. And, according to Martin, they are very much alive.

I get that we are all likely to be more emotionally attached to the humans in this story, but the White Walkers have superior organization and technology (dragon-killing javelins). Jared Diamond's GG&S suggests that those possessing superior technology and organization tend to win out. Maybe they really do "deserve" Westeros more than the humans do.

Are you sure about that? I thought that White Walkers were thousands of years old. If true, that adds a wrinkle, and I would assume that the Night King would target infants to convert into more leaders. Interesting.

Never confirmed in the books (only what Craster's wives believe happens to the babies), strongly suggested in the show when the White Walker takes Craster's last son to the Night King, and he turns the baby's eyes blue with a touch of his finger on the baby's cheek.

Wow, so the Night King can turn a living thing into a White Walker without it having to die. That is pretty cool.

No you are right, I'm pretty sure we saw this at both Craster's Keep and Hardhome.

Loved this episode and hope it gives all the fans out there that couldn't get past their issues with the last episode or two what they were looking for.

One thing on that subject -as much as so many had major problems with the crazy scheme to go north of the wall, the payoff was awesome when the evidence was delivered to King's Landing. And the repercussions in the North were made more interesting, too.

They were coming whether the dirty dozen went north or not but this made it really interesting and more ominous for the final season.

Loved it.

In what season will we see the Wall finally come crashing down?

Season finale this year or early next year?

My bet: season finale this year will be the collapse of the wall with the Night Kings army crossing the rubble - next season is finally dragons vs Night Kings army.

Did I freaking call it or what?!

What an amazing episode, so excited for next season!

One thing is certain- Danerys will be pregnant by Jon Snow. The ham fisted "I can't have children"denials pretty much guarantee it.

That was very satisfying. Lots of good misdirection on that storyline. Of course, people could (and did) guess that Sansa and Arrya were on to Littlefinger but you couldn't know that for sure. The twist was a good TV twist (for want of a better term). Which is to say, if you watch a lot of TV you could guess this was a possible outcome if the writers we're looking for a "surprise." These are different than the twists that Martin had in the books, which were not only totally unpredictable but often completely shocking. I remember just being flabbergasted and upset for days after reading the chapter with the Red Wedding. Just couldn't believe what had happened. I'm actually still kind of upset by it years later..
MoragaBear

Some people complain that now that they're outside the books, there's not enough horrible deaths like the Red Wedding.

Not me. I'm glad Tormund's not a mindless zombie now, Jon didn't drown and Dany and Drogon didn't get downed by an ice spear.

Besides, I think @18 characters of note died last season, particularly when crazy Cersei started planting bombs.

So many people on this board don't know what they are talking about... Jon Snow knows more than some of y'all and he knows nothing! Go back and watch videos from The Last Harpy and New Rockstars on YouTube. The Last Harpy's old videos are extremely informative with lots of history and information from the books and such. The New Rockstars videos are longer but have really in depth breakdowns of the episodes that show a lot of things you may have missed.
