Honestly, I don't think it was realistic to expect that the story would continue so heavily on the "anti-fanservice" bent it was in the earlier seasons. At some point, you have to reach a reasonably satisfying conclusion, and that means also adhering to some typical story conventions. Martin's books might do some things differently (the escapade beyond the wall might have had some better motivation behind it), but I suspect they will wind up in about the same place.

That just goes to show that antifa is everywhere.

I will forgive them for using CGI to depict the army of the dead and all the other armies, as well. How else would you expect them to develop the story? Extras do cost money. A thousand extras cost lots of money. The Dragons are CGI and where would Dany be without them howling and flying about. there was plenty of personality development in this last episode. In fact, part of the 80 minute program became almost boring because of the interplay between some of the characters. Yet, boom, out of nowhere does Sansa accuse Littlefinger of treason. I haven't read the books, but I'm an avid viewer for the last 4 years and I was quite surprised by that turn of events. I was wondering why last week Sansa sent Brienne away when she was pledged to defend and protect her. Is there a connection between that move and the killing of Littlefinger? Moreover, except for those who have read the books, I was surprised when Jaime left Cersei and when Cersei reneged on her pledge to join Dany and fight the Night Walkers. For us non-readers, I thought the program was very well done and I look forward to next year's edition.

Read all the books, have watched tons of GoT youtube vids, watch the special features and interviews on gameofthrones.com, listen to 4-5 podcasts a week and have seen every episode at least 2-3 times and I loved every minute of it.

Matt Zoller Seitz is excellent. Really good analysis here.

Lazy 1980s filmmakers may have used F-16s to drop napalm in their Vietnam movies; however, no F-16s were used in the Vietnam War, as they entered active service a half dozen years after the US left Vietnam.

Well, Westeros is against immigrants of a certain background (is living status a protected class?), and have built a wall to keep the immigrants out. Maybe the wall needed to come down.

Anyone hearing about the disturbing rumors on what's going to happen to ALL the Starks and all seeing Branden letting it happen?

Bran is a total loser. He sits around and mopes all day, always with a pissy look on his face. I'm not even convinced he's unable to walk. I think he's just lazy and got used to Hodor dragging his sorry azz around all day and liked it. He's a total zero. I don't even know why he's on the show. Take your sad "three-eyed raven" nonsense elsewhere. Either pick up a sword and be a man for crying out loud or take your insane ramblings and warg hallucinations to People's Park where you'll fit in better. The adults have some fighting to do.

My biggest dissapointment was that Sansa did not kill Littlefinger herself. Another departure from the ways of the First Men. These young people, no respect I tell ya! I mean c'mon Arya, your whole point as a dark-haired-blood-of-the-north-who-really-wanted-to-be-a-boy is to remind Sansa about this **** and rub her nose in it.

Arya should have saved Littlefinger's face-special incision- so she could do a party trick and don it at Jon Snow's wedding to freak out Sansa

I guarantee she didn't let Littlefingers face go to waste, what better way to sneak in the Kings Landing and get right into Cersei's presence undetected?

(I love how we were also so scarred by the Red Wedding that we are now cheering on a teenage girl who has become a serial killer.)

"The man who passes the sentence should sing the sword." Ned Stark. Come on Sansa, grow a pair.

the big disappointment is that killing the Night King is already shown as the easy win. So we have Danny fighting the King on dragons, mano a mano. Some elements of the show clearly are being dumbed down to show audience pleasing conflicts (Theron vs. Euron is another). Far more predictable, but with one season left, I guess necessary to bring the show to a conclusion. In any event, I'm rooting for the recently brained-up Cersei just to support the underdog and avoid the obvious happy ending.

Edit: for all my lamenting, Jon Saw and Danny still are the most googled names today, two days after the season ending show aired.

My one and only sure-fire prediction is that Sam pulls a Neville Longbottom and takes out the Night King (or at least the Ice dragon). Its just such a painfully obvious thing to do now that Sam has Heartsbane.

See it through. The payoff is incredible.

In many ways, the first season is the most brutal but there's one famous episode in season three that will top them all.

Okay, let's not spoil it for going4roses. I mean, I'm sure he expects people to die. But let's not go into details (specifically, the how and when) so he can enjoy this experience.

Meanwhile, we can talk about these last 2 seasons spoiler-free because he would not know WTF we're talking about it.

Honestly, if I were watching Game of Thrones from the beginning, I'd probably avoid any message board threads about the most recent episodes of the show. If you get "spoiled" doing that, its your own fault.

I listen to many serious podcasts and youtubers and find many of the more informed posters on this board to be not that far off from their assessments, so you have to try a little harder and point out specific insights that are missing.
