Also, I'm pretty sure Charlie Moore, who was probably our best player that year, didn't play in the game, so we weren't near full strength.

I kind of agree. The interview doesn't bother me. It was a lot of AD speak meaning nothing. No AD is going to throw the coach under the bus. At that point, you might as well fire him. I would also point out that if you really read it, he basically gave a glorified "no comment" to whether a mid season firing could be positive.

That is a man who on the one hand is not going to throw the coach under the bus until he is ready to, but on the other is not committing to seeing things through to the end of the season. More than I'd have thought we'd get. People should be happy with the answer.

What I'm upset with is not the interview, but everything that has gotten us here. Eyes on the prize.

But if we want to talk about failed quotes, I'd go with this from Mark Fox at his first press conference (that was repeated in the article):

I'm going to parse words here, but I think it is important parsing. Most people would say "I want to keep climibing until we reach the top". Because, there is only one top. He said "until we think maybe it's the top". In other words, I don't want to put a ceiling on this now. I want to keep getting better until we hit our ceiling. Until we get to a point and we look around and say "yeah, I think maybe this is as good as it gets for us". Whether it was intentional or Freudian, that was a major hedge and a clear indication that he did not see the actual top as being in the cards.

Also for the record, the Band usually splits into 4 that night. 2 would deal with parties and events throughout the Bay Area (one set for the East Bay, one for the Peninsula), one would go to the game, and the last and largest group, the entire freshman cohort with some older members, was tasked with going to Bonfire and covering any other campus events.

If we're going to complain, let's not start acting like some of these things aren't new.

That said, the shirt giveaway was also a disaster because of the size - 90% of them were Smalls and the other 10% were Mediums. They didn't even get a reasonable size for a majority of the student body.
