Theo Robertson. Excellent coaching tree--Allocco, Monty, Kerr, Walton.

Cal's not hiring anyone without a degree. Cuonzo's now making more than Shaka ($3.5M vs 2.8M).

Randy Bennett graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Biology. He's a UC guy, who would have thought?

Plenty of reasons. Maybe he feels he's maxed out what he can do at Utah and sees a higher ceiling at Cal. Maybe he hates SLC and likes the Bay.

Not saying that I wouldn't call him, but Krystkowiak is from Montana. That's much more similar to SLC than the Bay Area.

Why would Larry K leave a program that has recently been better than Cal's for Cal?

Larry K also gets paid over $2.5M/year. I doubt if Cal is going to pay more than that to lure him here.

Screw Larry K, he acted like a douche last week.

People will say he doesn't have enough experience, but some people think this is rocket science. It's not.

Might as well get Lavar Ball and build a team around getting his middle kid every offensive touch. Although I've heard all that may be worth it to get the youngest kid...

Agreed. You either have it or you don't. I sure don't want some retread who's already failed.

If Musselman plays all his walk ons, sits his stars and doesn't call any TOs to stop scoring runs against Iowa State tomorrow, we'll know Friday morning who our new coach is.

You have to think he is likely the front runner.

Yeah don't think this will happen - A Stanford grad, Collins has a knack for offensive schemes and game plans.

That is a highly interesting name. Collins brings NBA chops and can speak to balancing academics and BBall more than any other than the Gates/Theo pairing.

He is from Harvard-Westlake HS which happens to have one of the most sought-after recruits in Cassius Stanley.

He doesn't strike me as having the personality or temperament to recruit.

His time with the Warriors was intriguing. His time with the Kings was a disaster, but there were extenuating circumstances (and he didn't get off on the right foot, getting busted for DUI before his first game). He seemed to be a vagabond for a while and I recall he badly wanted the Cal job when Monty left. I haven't followed him at Nevada.

I have concerns, though they are mostly based on my perception and nothing concrete. First, his personality always seemed prickly and I don't trust his ability to recruit. I don't trust his ability to deal with Cal admin/academic restrictions. He's a basketball junky. He only cares about basketball. He will get frustrated, quickly, when he can't get guys he wants into school.

But he certainly does seem to know how to coach.

Ha ha ha! You too watched Martin "coach" lat night!

Question About Gonzo Martin: Is it a crime to throw a game or is it only unethical to throw a game?

Have you seen Davis play? Pretty much the ugliest offense I've seen00 uglier than Cuonzo. They basically all play like Coleman drive the lane and pray for a call.

I don't know that much about Les. There are a number of coaches I would hope we get before Les. But I thought of him because he's in the NCAA tourney and just won in the play-in game. His team will play Kansas on Friday. He was coach for Bradley when they were in the Sweet Sixteen in 20026.
Following his NBA career, Les was an assistant coach for the WNBA's Sacramento Monarchs from 1999 to 2001. Les was on the staff of Monarchs head coach Sonny Allen in 1999 and 2000 and Maura McHugh in 2001. In all three seasons with Les as an assistant coach, the Monarchs made the WNBA Playoffs and advanced to the 2001 WNBA Conference Finals.

In 2002, he returned to his alma mater Bradley University as head coach, where he led Bradley to an improved record in each of his first two seasons. The Bradley Braves advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA tournament in 2006. The following year the Braves exceeded expectations to make it to the NIT. In 2008, the Braves participated in their third consecutive postseason tournament when they were invited to the first annual College Basketball Invitational tournament. The Braves advanced to the CBI finals, defeating Cincinnati, Ohio University and Virginia, while losing two games to one to Tulsa in the CBI championship round.

In 2009, the Braves participated in their fourth consecutive postseason tournament when they were invited to the first annual CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The Braves beat Austin Peay 8174 in the first round of the tournament, and then went on to beat Oakland University 7675[12] on a miracle 70-foot shot by Chris Roberts at the buzzer to earn Les his fourth consecutive 20-win season. The Braves advanced to the CIT finals with a win over Pacific, while losing to Old Dominion 66-62 in the CIT championship game.[12] The Bradley Braves finished the 200910 season in fifth place at 9-9 in the Missouri Valley Conference.[13] Bradley finished the 201011 season tied for ninth place at 414 in the Missouri Valley Conference.[14]

Professional basketball players who played at Bradley under Les include Zach Andrews, Danny Granger, and Patrick O'Bryant.

Les was relieved of his duties on March 6, 2011 after the Braves finished a disappointing 1220 campaign.[15]

That was my perception of him also but living in Reno I do pay attention to the Wolfpack. He has recruited well and done a great job in the community. Although I would love to see us take a shot with Theo, I think we would be in great hands with Musselman.

My new criteria for a HC....one that has a good PG signed. We really could be in deep deep DEEP Caca if Charlie leaves. Who plays Point? Who backs Chauca up?
