Looks like TTu behind Canady has beaten FSU twice and has now advance into the next round. What a stud pitcher can do for a team ..winning Wed & Thurs ..complete games! I was happy when a Cal pitcher can get pass the 4th inning.

So, who do we target in the transfer portal?
Who can we afford? Anyone in the $250k price range? Even if DeNava improves a lot next year..most likely imo she will be gone the next year. I'm just so disappointed over the direction of collegiate sports.

Doesn't a Cal degree mean anything anymore? Maybe I'm jaded from working at some of the top tech companies here in the Bay Area, but those things still matter when you're hiring recent college grads. One could absolutely argue they shouldn't, fwiw.
shocky's favorite player alyssa herrera has pulled her name outta the transfer portal, the program is expecting to probably play at stanford next season, the weeklong acc roadtrips back east caused some academic issues this spring & there wuz chemistry issues within this season's squad
Wondering if we also got some commits based on Coach Spencer's twitter (just now). Historically those "Go Bears" tweets follow a commitment announcement.

Makes sense to me with the travel. With the new stadium I hope we host a lot of non-conference tournaments (to minimize travel). Make use of that beautiful new stadium!

Didn't the announcers say during the ACC tournament that it'd be for Herrera to get that extra year since she played 20+ games this season (?)

She is only a soph this year! She would have at least 2 more years.
Got it... think they meant she couldn't couldn't get this as a redshirt year since she played over 20 games
Cal picks up a transfer from Pitcher Layna Gerhard.
Gerhard spent her Freshman season at Top 25 school Ohio State and went 7-0 with a 4.20 ERA.
All things considered this seems like a solid replacement for Reimers with upside potential. She appears to have had offers from multiple Big 10, Big 12 and SEC schools.

Layna Gerhard is a much-needed addition to the Cal pitching staff. Hopefully, her performance will improve as her career progresses in Berkeley. She is from the state of Delaware. Her stats were average as a freshman at Ohio State.

Unfortunately, this next year could be rough with the new stadium being built. I had a feeling it would throw a wrench into plans. Do seniors really want to spend their final year playing at an undisclosed location?
I'll feel a lot better once we make it to the 2027 season. It feels insane to even type out 2027.

A decent replacement for Medina or Marshall. I think Butler and Bell are just testing the water. If they come back we're pretty well set what would the four good freshmen coming in. If we can get a monster arm like Stoddard (15-0) though go for it I say. $500,000? No problem.

Emma Jackson started every game for Boston College over her initial two seasons there. She started at second base and batted third in the Eagle's batting order. She stands 5-7and bats left-handed. If Phillips moves over to shortstop, Jackson can take her former spot. Emma's offensive numbers are solid but not spectacular. Welcome to Cal!

Exactly. This is how I'm thinking about it too. Good replacement for Marshall/Medina. Our Ohio State commit is more than a fine replacement for Reimers…frankly she struggled. I fear it will be impossible to replace the power of Butler and Bell but hey, trying to stay positive.
Good thing we have such a strong Freshman class coming in. Can easily see all 4 having a Mia Phillips type Fr. Year.
Hope they can add a #1/#2 pitcher in the portal. Watching some conference tournaments and WCWS - envious of some of these arms. Pickens can probably get a Canady payday if she wants to test the waters

Interesting is one way to put it! Former 2002 championship teammates are the only ones listed on the staff page…
3 coaches with ties to Cal and the Bay Area now…hope that provides some consistency.

It might be worth considering a fully local approach during non-conference play-particularly with our brand-new stadium. We should have the capacity to host our own smaller-scale version of the Kajikawa Classic every weekend.
Cuico was only a volunteer assist. coach. Perhaps her status might change when the 2025-26 starts.BearinOC said:
