I didn't see Teri at the meet. Does anyone know why she wasn't there?

She was there before and had to leave for a family emergency.

It looks to me like KM's stroke technique isn't as good as before her injury. She also had a very short turnaround after the 200 free (only 100 back and 100 breast between). The whole meet lasted about 85 minutes, which makes for very tough swimming with most having four races of max effort with very little rest in between. Great training!

What's going on with Jasmine Mau? NCAA scorer in both flys as a froskie, but didn't qualify for NCAAs as a soph. Terrific girl, but a bit of a mystery.

Some wild times by the 'furdettes yesterday. Ledecky three seconds under the A cut in the 500 Free. Another three seconds to the NCAA record, which is still 4 seconds slower than her personal best/American record. Unheard of unrested and unsuited in an early November dual. If there's no competition for her, don't see the point of swimming NCAAs and remaining an amateur.

400 Medley Relay already has an A cut and 200 Free Relay just missed. Using Kim Williams as their medley breaststroker over Poppe and Eastin. Poppe swam well as a frosh, but has fallen off a cliff since then. Eastin's probably their best option and it's not like she's a 4 relay swimmer, so seems kinda odd.

There appeared to have been a few worries expressed in some quarters over the drastic falloff in Jasmine's times last season (no official explanation as to its cause).

Hopefully this post of Jaz's from 3 weeks ago will allay these concerns somewhat:

----

Jasmine Mau: "As the new school year approaches, I find myself reminiscing about this past year. It's so hard to experience change, being introduced to new experiences and letting go of others. It's been quite a journey and a growing experience for me. I realize that nothing is ever for sure and life goes on. With that being said, I'm coming back stronger than ever."

----

Mau's contribution will be a crucial component of the team dynamic for another serious run at the NCAA Champs title, and we are all rooting hard for Jazzy to get back to form...and more importantly, back on track on her life journey :cheer

Go Butterfly U & Backstroke U ... Swim On You Bears!

----

Sorry don't have an update since my post back in August (above). Whatever Jazzy's working thru, best wishes to her in her ongoing journey! Mau's contribution in the pool would naturally be of massive help towards her teammates' NCAA aspirations...but taking a step back, we cheer on & support all our :bear:s not just for their athletic performances, but also for their love of the university!

Yup, the Card women, led by Ledecky and Manuel, are going to be every bit as dominant as everyone has predicted that they'd be! Our Bears will give a good account of themselves and are capable of winning more than a few events...but, along with the other top Div I programmes, will find it an uphill battle & challenge all the same facing the furdette juggernaut this season and going forward.

Meanwhile, outstanding performances from a number of other NCAA swimmers at the inaugural 2016 USA College Challenge (Day 2 going on right now) forebodes an exceptionally fast & competitive championships this March (competitive in other than the 500 free & mile that is lol).

Mallory Comerford, Lilly King, Siobahn Haughey, Kirsten Vose, Leah Smith, Zhesi Li, Hannah Stevens, Andee Cottrell ... amongst many others. Some really swift times for a November meet!

Great sentiment. As a swim parent, I know that injuries can take a harsh toll on a kid's body. While my kid never needed any kind of surgery, her entire college career was beset with nagging injury problems that kept her from fulfilling her potential. Swimming is a great sport in so many ways . . . but, it's a long season that's very hard on the body over time. I have no inside information about Jasmine, but wouldn't be surprised if nagging injuries were playing some role.

Know next to nothing re the diving lol, but I think Phoebe always had the promise...as a froski, placed 22nd in the 1m springboard prelims @ 2016 NCAA. Only other NCAA qualifier for Bears was then-senior Anne Kastler, who had ended up 51st in the 3m prelims.

Derek Starks' coaching & leadership does appear in these early stages to be a positive factor as well
Training @ Legends instead of trudging down to the Farm doesn't hurt either

Truth is, we're going to need all the help we can muster, as the furdettes are looking to pile on diving points on top of the expected massive scoring from their swimmers (an awful lot of SwimSwammers already predicting in excess of 600 points for Meehan's team this March!)

Case in point...Katie Ledecky has just broken her American Record of 4:26.58 in the 500 free at the Ohio State Invite this evening, with a 4:26.46...just a routine training exercise in the middle of Nov for her lol

Last year, the Card racked up 56 Championship points in the diving alone (their margin of superiority over us = 37 pts in the overall scoring...I'm of course deliberately ignoring here the impact of their 200 free relay DQ which basically handed the title to Georgia :p), thanks to:
Gracia Leydon-Mahoney (So): 1st - Platform (20 pts), 7th - 3m (12 pts), 8th - 1m (11 pts)
Lilly Hinrichs (Sr): 6th - Platform (13 pts)
Hinrichs & NCAA qualifier Alex Clay have both graduated, but Leydon-Mahoney is still around & a bit of a big scoring threat. As if that's not quite enough, Stanfurd brings in Rio Olympian Kassidy Cook who had redshirted last season, and freshie Haley Farnsworth... They will also field Sammy Gallagher, our frosh diver Maggie Gallagher's older sis.

Speaking of Maggie, she didn't compete in the home dual v. the Horns, nor does she appear on the entry lists for the Texas Diving Invite...

Alright, the 1m prelims are done @ the UT Invite, and Phoebe's currently seeded in the 3rd slot Hayden Tavoda placed 9th, Mia Diliberto 11th, Rachel Reeves 15th.

Expect some major revisions to the season-best list in a fortnight's time, as the Bears aim for some important NCAA cuts at their mid-season invite in Georgia.

Furdettes have already qualified all their relays along with 5 swimmers - Eastin, Hu, Howe, Ledecky, Manuel - all with automatic invites via their NCAA 'A' cuts from the OSU Invite this past weekend! Another 9 from their squad with good enough B times (Brynes, Drabot, Engel, Neal, Poppe, Stevens, Szekely, Voss & Williams), with an opportunity to improve on that @ Pac-12s, not to mention at least a couple of their divers...

We have this discussion every season, but a dual meet ranking is pretty meaningless for both Cal programs.

Sadly confirmed by the latest CSCAA rankings, released today:
https://swimswam.com/mizzou-men-soar-as-nc-state-men-stanford-women-hold-1-in-cscaa-polls/
DIVISION I WOMEN

TBH, no quibbles about the furdettes' current superiority lording it over the rest of the field at the #1 spot...even if given somewhat grudgingly at my end lol

One would naturally expect a few changes to the above rankings, once Cal has competed @ the Georgia Invite in just over a week's time. But come on, just as with our Bears, the Dawgs & the Horns women have also yet to race their mid-season meet - yet somehow the CSCAA still rates them as the #2 & #3 teams...whilst Teri's squad have been downgraded from #9 to #10, in spite of having busted out a bunch of impressive performances in the recent narrow dual loss to Texas??! I'm referring more to the inconsistencies in these rankings than to the absolute placements here...

Furthermore, collegeswimming presently has us at an even lower #15... But may actually represent the more accurate in-season barometer of the 2 ranking systems, since 13 of their top 14 are teams who have already participated in a mid-winter invitational, i.e. where race suits and some measure of rest were involved resulting in improved times which would bump them up the list ... with invite-to-come teams such as UT @ #17, and UGA @ #23.

Still like SwimSwam's assessment of the Golden Bears @ #3, though reckon we can swing up to the #2 spot if everything comes together @ NCAAs.

Of course none of this is too pertinent to the end game, it's what each team & individual will actually achieve on the day that will really count, though the road leading to that point can help provide some useful indicators of things to come.

Here's how the CSCAA had rated the men's teams:

DIVISION I MEN

Durden's men @ #6 and Reese's bois @ #5...hmmm....

Relatively meaningless for teams (Cal, Georgia) that haven't participated in a Fall invitational (suited and rested) yet, but the projected LSJU score (621) is scary. Presumably without diving, but (based on NCAA scores over the last decade) that's a 200+ point win. Yikes!

The picture should (hopefully :p) become a mite clearer after this weekend, with a number of major meets scheduled to take place:

------

1) Georgia Fall Invitational (2 - 4 Dec 2016)

No details released at this point in time, on either Cal's or UGA's respective websites.

Both our women & our men will be participating AFAIK, presumably (hopefully) with all our divers as well. Have heard that Virginia's (minus Leah Smith as she'll be prepping/resting for SC Worlds) & Michigan's teams will be there (Auburn + UCLA divers + Florida State as well?), so should shape up to be a very interesting & competitive meet.

3-day Championship format. Differences v. NCAAs: more rest time in between events here (with both the men's & women's races going on alternately) ... 3-day meet instead of 4 days (the 800 free relay set for Day 2 here, not Day 0) ... each swimmer can enter up to 4 individual events + unlimited relays here, I think?

From what I can recall, the 2014 edition of this invite featured #2 Georgia, #5 Cal, #6 Auburn, #9 Virginia, #15 Penn State, #19 UCLA, plus Florida State, Harvard & Virginia Tech, on the women's side. Lady Dawgs finished tops w/916 points (52 from their divers), whilst Teri's squad claimed a close 2nd w/our 907 pts (no diving points as neither Teri nor Dave had brought our divers to Austin then), and the Cavaliers #3 with 748 pts. Subsequently, 2015 NCAAs ended up with Cal @#1 (513 pts), UGA @ #2 (452 pts), UVa #5 (229 pts).

Well, time to go for those NCAA qualifying cuts - go Bears! :cheer

Georgia Fall Invitational Still a Backstroke Showcase

The Georgia Fall Invitational has become one of the cant-miss events of the college swimming & diving season.

Each year, the Bulldogs host a group of the top teams and top athletes in the country for the final meet before winter break. It leads to some spectacular racing and a nice preview of the NCAA Championships.

This year, Georgia, ranked No. 2 in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll, and No. 13 in the men’s poll, will again face big-time competition.

The Georgia women will face No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Virginia, No. 10 Cal, No. 11 Auburn and Florida State.

The Bulldog men will host No. 6 Cal, No. 10 Michigan, No. 17 Auburn, No. 29 Virginia and Florida State. UCLA and Harvard will join the meet for diving only.

This meet has been a backstroke showcase the past few years, especially on the women’s side.

Last year, Virginia’s Courtney Bartholomew swam the fastest races in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes at this meet — faster than anyone went at the NCAA Championships.

Bartholomew, Missy Franklin, Rachel Bootsma, Elizabeth Pelton, Emily Bos and Olivia Smoliga have all had epic backstroke battles at this meet.

Smoliga, of Georgia, is the only one remaining, but will be joined by fellow Olympian Kathleen Baker and All-American Amy Bilquist — both of Cal — as well as Michigan’s Gabby DeLoof, making for another year with stellar backstroke racing at this event.

In the men’s meet last year, Cal Olympian Ryan Murphy edged teammate Jacob Pebley in the 200 backstroke. Murphy also won the 100 backstroke.

The backstrokers will be on display, but it will be a huge meet for everyone

Cal's swimmers head across the country this week for the Georgia Fall Invitational Friday-Sunday, where they will face off against some of the top teams and individuals in the nation. In addition to the Golden Bears and host Bulldogs, other teams competing in Athens, Ga., will be Auburn, Florida State, Michigan, Virginia, UCLA and Harvard. Georgia (1st), Cal (3rd), Virginia (5th) were all among the top 5 at the 2016 NCAA Championships.

The Bears last visited Georgia for the invitational in 2014 and came away with an impressive collection of fast times. Overall, all five relays reached the NCAA A standard, with 10 individual swims gaining A status and 45 more at B. The meet helped set the stage for a season that would end with the 2015 NCAA team championship.

Some fast swims over at the Texas Invite...

Our women's team naturally will be focussed solely on their own swimming starting in a couple of days' time in Athens, as that's the one factor which is within their control ... but hey, us armchair supporters here will be happy to keep an eye on the competition for them hehe

4 teams earned an A cut in the 800 free relay, the only race of the evening down in Austin this evening:
#1. Horns - 6:56.52 (school record)

Claire Adams with a really impressive 1:43.05, quickest flying split in the field

#2. Wildcats - 7:01.08
Hannah Cox the swiftest on her squad (with reaction time factored in), 1:44.92 leadoff

UPDATE

Zona time-trialed their 200 Medley Relay teams tonight. According to the results on Meet Mobile, Wildcats' A squad achieved what's presently the fastest time in the nation as well as a school record for them, 1:34.63

- Taylor Garcia (24.15 Back), Kennedy Lohman (26.70 Breast), Annie Ochitwa (22.23 Fly), Katrina Konopka (21.55 Free)

That's almost 2 sec swifter than current #2 Louisville's 1:36.52 and #3 Stanford's 1:36.53!

Granted, it's easier to achieve quicker times in a time trial like this one (much less mental pressure plus not having to fight the massive wash/waves from the adjacent lanes, no need to swim qualifying prelims or multiple individual events beforehand, this was the 1st swim of the meet for the squad so they were fresh), but that 1:34.63 time is notable in that it would have won both 2016 & 2015 NCAA Championships, besting the furdettes' 1:34.81 & Bears' 1:35.15 winning times respectively, and about half a sec off LSJU's 1:34.15 American & NCAA record from 2016 Pac-12s (Howe/Haase/Hu/Neal)...

NCAA CHAMP SMOLIGA VS. WEITZEIL IN WOMEN'S 100 FREE

Another 2016 Rio Olympian, Olivia Smoliga, will be representing Georgia on the women's side. Smoliga has a very strong 2015-16 season, during which she won the 50 free and 100 free at the 2016 NCAA Championships. This season, however, she'll be up against American Record holder Abbey Weitzeil, a Cal freshman who was also on the 2016 Olympic squad.

Other title contenders include Cal's Farida Osman, Michigan's Siobhan Haughey, and Georgia's Chantal van Landeghem. Olympic champ Amanda Weir will also be competing at the meet as a postgrad.

BAKER VS. BILQUIST IN WOMEN'S BACKSTROKES

Cal teammates Amy Bilquist and Kathleen Baker are both lightning fast backstrokers, so we could easily see them battling for the title in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. This summer in Rio, Baker was the Olympic silver medalist in the 100 back. Bilquist has been slightly faster in yards, however, as she's the reigning Pac-12 champion in the 200 back.

Georgia's Kylie Stewart and Olivia Smoliga may also be in the mix, as both have competed in the backstrokes at NCAAs. Smoliga also swam the 100 back for Team USA in Rio this summer, where she was a finalist.

Know that we had in the past talked about freshies Aislinn & Courtney as being legacies, but hadn't realised how impressively deep these ties were (parents & relatives not just having attended school here, but many of them were also athletes repping Cal) ... or that Maddie & Mia were legacies too!

Courtney Mykkanen's family connection to Cal dates back nearly 100 years.

For three freshman members of the Golden Bear women's swimming & diving team, being students at the University of California is truly a family affair.

One newcomer can talk of both parents and 32 aunts, uncles and cousins who have graduated from Cal. Another's predecessors include a longtime professor and a silver-medal winning father. And the third has joined her older brother and sister as a Cal student and has a father who earned two degrees from the University.

But don't let it be said that it was a foregone conclusion that any one of the trio Aislinn Light, Maddie Murphy or Courtney Mykkanen were headed to Cal from the start. Despite family history, each was able to make her own decision and chose to study and compete in Berkeley for her own reasons.

"Honestly, my family would have been just as proud if I went anywhere else, but the fact that I can call myself a student-athlete at Cal is something that cannot be beat," said Light, whose brother, Austin '12, was a men's basketball team manager and older sister, Audrey, is a current student. "Having all three of us (siblings) attend Cal is not taken for granted and is very special to our family."

Murphy, the one with so many parents, aunts, uncles and cousins with Cal degrees, grew up in Orinda in a family that has owned football season tickets since before she was born. There's even a Cal flag flying outside her home. Her father, Matthew Murphy, was a two-time NCAA champion on the men's water polo team while a Golden Bear. Still, she was encouraged to find her own place for college.

"My parents really wanted me to make my own decision and not have an influence on me," Murphy said. "Don't let us impact your decision. Stay open-minded. I tried to really take my time and look at each school I was interested in and talk with the coaches. Cal just clicked. I guess that was natural."

Added Mykkanen, whose father, John, won a silver medal in the 400-meter freestyle at the 1984 Olympics: "It was ultimately my decision, and they supported every other school possible. We took trips and gave everyone a fair share of our attention. When it came down to it, my last trip was Cal. I came and everything clicked immediately and I knew that this was where I needed to be."

Mykkanen's family connection to Cal dates back nearly 100 years to her great grandfather, Harmer Davis, who earned a degree in civil engineering in 1928. He served as a professor of civil engineering in Berkeley for 43 years, and the Harmer E. Davis Transportation Library, housed inside McLaughlin Hall, features one of the preeminent transportation collections in the United States and gives her family a permanent spot on campus.

For all the history contained in the Light, Murphy and Mykkanen families, Aislinn, Maddie and Courtney are just beginning their own journey at Cal and they are prepared to establish a little history of their own.

This morning's prelims. In a bright glimmer of hope and normalcy, Katie put in a solid time in the 500 Free and came in fourth. Abbey doing Abbey things and comes in first in the 50 Free. Farida, Amy, and Valerie all qualify for the A final. Kathleen, Celina, and Keaton all qualify for the A final in the 200 IM, in 3rd, 4th, and 8th respectively.

Yaz, some pretty encouraging performances all round from just about everyone, fighting hard to qualify for tonight's finals to help out with the team scoring (on top of the primary objective of securing A cuts or improving on their B qualification times for NCAAs).

A few near misses (Courtney & Marina in the 500 free, Noemie in the 50 free), but at least they all get another swim in tonight's C final even if it won't count for the overall team scoring (if the format remains the same as back in 2014).

I did a quick breakdown of the Bears' results below, please let me know if I missed something or got some of the data wrong.

Aware that absolute times are pretty meaningless from a prelims session (well, unless one snags an A cut or at least achieve a personal best ), it's getting into the evening finals that really counts. However, when one compares this morning's stats with the one from 2 years ago, the outlook's rather positive in general IMO

No relays contested @ prelims, unlike back in 2014, which does make the morning heats a bit easier for multi-event swimmers.

Hopefully someone will update the men's results on the appropriate thread.

Oh, looks like we didn't bring our divers to this meet, which will hurt our scoring...but no big deal as winning the invite would only be icing on the cake.

Thanks for the updates, UAC.

Don't think of McL as a 500 swimmer (both flys plus 200), but her prelim time is close to an NCAA scorer.

Baker and Celina look like 200 IM scorers and Keaton's on the bubble for qualification.

As expected Abbey, Farida, and Amy are 50 Free scorers. No worries on the 200 Free Relay since Hull and Maddie look to be qualifiers.

ATHENS, Ga. Cal captured two relays, setting a school record in the 200-yard free relay, and Olympian Kathleen Baker won the 200 individual medley, as the Golden Bears took the first-day lead at the Georgia Fall Invitational Friday.

Both the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay reached the NCAA A qualifying standard, as did Abbey Weitzeil in the 50 free, Amy Bilquist in the 100 back, and Baker in the 200 IM and 100 back.

Through the first six events of the three-day meet, which features both men's and women's teams, Cal has 285 points, to 270 for host Georgia, 218 for Virginia and 159 for Michigan all schools ranked among the nation's top 10 this week.

"I'm really pleased with our performances today," head coach Teri McKeever said. "I think one thing that stood out was our depth in the relays. The school record was a bonus, and I think there is some opportunity to improve there. The 400 medley relay was faster than any time we did last year. The men are swimming great and we're feeding off a lot of that energy, as well."

The foursome of Weitzeil, Bilquist, Valerie Hull and Farida Osman touched the wall in 1:26.31 in the 200 free relay, breaking the mark of 1:26.41 from 2015. Cal has won the national title in the event the last two years at the NCAA Championships, and the Bears' time stands as the fastest in the country so far this season.

In the 500 free, sophomore Katie McLaughlin took fifth with a time of 4:39.08, which was an NCAA B standard. Chenoa Devine (9th, 4:45.70) and Jenna Campbell (11th, 4:47.60) also made the B cut.

Baker claimed the 200 IM in an NCAA A time of 1:53.41. She was the NCAA runner-up in the event as a freshman last season. In addition, Celina Li placed fifth in 1:56.54 and freshman Keaton Blovad was eighth in 1:57.21.

Given Cal's success in the free relay, the Bears showed their depth in the 50 free. Weitzeil took third in 21.81, with the next set of swimmers placing 4-5-6 Osman (21.96), Bilquist (22.21) and Hull (22.22). Weitzeil, a two-time relay medalist at the Rio Olympics, was the fastest qualifier, going 21.64 for an A time in the morning heats.

The Bears closed out the night winning the 400 medley relay in an NCAA A time of 3:28.33. Bilquist led off with an A cut of 50.85 in the 100 back fastest in the country this year and she was followed by Marina Garcia, Noemie Thomas and Weitzeil. The Bears' B relay also went below the NCAA A time (3:32.67), and Baker achieved a second individual A cut with her backstroke leadoff (51.25). The others on the relay were Li, Osman and Hull.

Saturday prelims begin at 6:30 a.m. PT, with finals at 2 p.m. PT. Complete results, as well as live statistics, can be found here: http://www.georgiadogs.com/livestats/c-swim/1617fall/

Great first day! Both the of the relays, 200 Free and 400 medley, put down the hammer. Really excited to see Kathleen and Katie swim so well. I really think Amy has an NCAA championship or two in her, in either the 100 Back or 200 Back. Abbey will take down Smoglia at NCAAs. The biggest surprise for me so far is Valerie Hull. Much improved from last year, and we are getting the expected relay monster that we hoped for. If she pulls off a solid 100 Free too, that would be an incredibly hopeful sign for our team at the NCAAs.

In terms of individual 'A' cuts, Bears had snagged 4 after the first day of the competition (Abbey - 50 free, Amy - 100 back, Kathleen - 200 IM & 100 back).

Compared to the Dawgs' 2 (Van Landeghem & Smoliga - 50 free), Cavs 2 (Jones & Marrkand - 200 IM), Wolverines 2 (Ryan & Bi - 500 free)

Our 400 Medley Relay A squad certainly had some wickedly fast splits for a mid-season invite!
Amy already more than half a sec under her 2016 NCAA time in this relay (50.85 here, v. 51.48 @ NCAA finals last season where we had finished 10th) ... Noemie's 50.25 superior to her 50.58 NCAA split ... and well, what can one say about Abbey considering that her 46.83 anchor here isn't considered all that extraordinary :p, well when judged by her own lofty standards lol (btw Weitzeil historically tends to reserve her best performances when helping the team, i.e. in relays).

Love Marina and everyone on the team, but may Oski forgive me lol for briefly succumbing to the idle thought that had our breaststroke leg busted out a time comparable to FSU's Natalie Pierce's 57.91 split (Florida State finished 5th in this event tonight), Bears would have, with those other 3 splits of ours that were raced in the middle of the season, easily demolished the furdettes' 3:26.14 NCAA record in the 400 Medley Relay from last year's NCAA championship!

Oh well, back to reality Looking ahead to Saturday's morning heats session, have just noticed that both Kathleen (#4 seed) & Abbey (#15 seed) are entered in the 100 fly, but neither will contest the 200 free where our highest seeds will be Amy @ #11 followed by Katie @ #12.

I'm going to be on the road for much of tomorrow and part of Sunday ... hopefully someone here will find the time to keep everyone abreast of developments, pretty please? Have a feeling that there will be quite a bit of quality racing going down this weekend over in Athens

Anyway, definitely a great start for both the women & men so far! :bravo Let's keep the momentum rolling ... Go Bears!

Morning swims Day 2. Celina looks great and finished second in the 400 IM prelims. Seven Bears finished in the top 16 of the 100 Fly! This group is lead by Noemie (1st), Farida (3rd), and Kathleen (5th). Was really hoping that Katie would be in the A final, but she just missed in ninth. Maddie, Abbey, Jasmine were 12, 13, 14 respectively. Amy finished 3rd in the 200 Free. Curious for the future to see if Abbey and Kathleen stick with the 100 Fly, or switch to the 200 Free. Marina finishes 4th in the 100 Breast 1:00.73, which is about where she has been historically. And Abbey finishes sixth! For those that don't know, this off event for Abbey is the equivalent to the tallest player on the team playing point guard. It is really unusual for a top sprinter to be good in the Breast events. Backstroke U, Amy and Kathleen go 1 and 2 in the 100 Back. Also, Keaton 4th and Kristen 8th.

400IM Celina missed out on A qualifying by mere 1.36 sec. Devine #10, Mykkanen #11, Majia #16

100fly Noemie A qualifier and Farida just missed A mark. Kath, Katie, Maddie, Abbey and Jasmine all B qualifiers. I'm guessing this is Jasmine's best swim in a while. Happy for her.

200fr Amy, Keaton, Kristen, Katie, Valerie and Lund all met B qualifying standard

100br Both Marina and Amy B qualifiers. Making C race Li #19, Majia #20, Alexa #24

100bk Amy #1, Kath #2, Keaton #4, Kristen #8, Courtney #15 all met B qualifying standard. Aislinn Light made C race.

thx muchly for the day 2 prelims updates, tb & ob!

think a bunch of pbs went down in the morn heats - thleen (100 fly), keaton (200 fr + 100 bk), val (200 fr), anina (200 fr), abbey (100 br) ... may have missed some others

- yes jazzy's 53.50 does rep her quickest time in the period after her 52.03 pb from 2015 ncaas

- anina dropped 3 sec from her prev best to qualify for the 200 fr b final

- if keets can lower her 100 bk or her 200 fr pbs by a bit over a sec, that would position blovad for a potential scoring spot @ ncaas!

- v. impressed by abbey taking off 3 sec from her 100 br best to make the a finals 2 spots behind marina!! if weitzeil wasn't already such a difference maker in her fr skillz, would make for a viable br leg candidate for our medley relays...
along with uber versatile thleen, abbey could expand teri & ian's relay options down the road if she continues to develop her br prowess at this rate!

lastly here's a video interview w. kathleen from last night... hope my mobile's copy n paste will work properly here whilst on the road hehe

forgot to mention that nono's 51.00 prelims swim in the 100 fly is presently the fastest in the ncaa!

quicker than furdette hu's 51.05 or trojanette hansson's 51.17 that were swum in their respective finals sessions...
