Of course he should be dismissed. He made a joke mocking Blake's killing. Rittenhouse is on trial for his actions as a militiaman protecting police from people protesting Blake's killing. The joke shows bias.

"what did Rittenhouse feel RIGHT before pulling the trigger?
was he under threat?
did he fear for his life?
If so, were the shootings justifiable self-defense?"

However, I feel myself viewing it differently -
Isn't Rittenhouse responsible for EVERY ACTION that he took leading up to the shootings?
-Being on the scene after curfew
-Having a gun, loaded
-Parading around the streets and interacting with people

All that is PART is the entire killing sequence, and he is responsible for ALL OF IT.

If I smoke a lifetime of cigarettes, and then die of cancer, it's not the final 3 puffs that are responsible.
If I drive like a maniac down the freeway, and then circumstances turn into a fatal accident, am I not responsible for driving 100 in a 45, even though the other driver did something to contribute to the accident?

I could go on with analogies, but you get my point.

I say this kid is entirely responsible for these deaths. Otherwise, we will devolve into a society where anyone can show up and whomever has the biggest/fastest gun wins, and is justified in their shooting. We gotta stop this gun-violent society, dammit!

The prosecutor is doing what sometimes happens when a case falls apart. He's trying to get Rittenhouse to make a stupid admission, preferably one that relates to an element of a crime. That's why he's asking what R was thinking or feeling at every step of the way.

It was SO stupid to go to a riot with an AR-16. But once he was there this is obvious self defense for each of the 3 shootings. No opinion on the 3 lesser charges.

This kid was a dumba** for walking into that situation armed to the teeth, but I think the chances of a criminal conviction went away once it was confirmed that someone else shot at him first. No matter how biased the judge may be, that one fact pretty much clinches it. Maybe on a lesser charge.

The problem with situations like this is that our law is too permissive for use of deadly force. If Rittenhouse didn't have a gun, he wouldn't have needed to defend himself with deadly force but here we are.

Even if the prosecutors had a good case, they pretty much blew it. In particular, I wouldn't be surprised if the judge (who is a bit of kook) declares a mistrial after the prosecutor tried to introduce questions about evidence that the judge had already ruled should be excluded.

I would be very surprised if Kyle doesn't walk.
