Assuming that you aren't trolling, that is one of the most depressing posts I've read on BI. You so glbbly dismiss death and applaud shooters? What is wrong with you?

To be fair, I thought he was with a group of LOCAL people defending their LOCAL gas station / car lot from being burned down by lawless rioters, mostly from out of town. Does your characterization purposely omit this or are you ignorant of the facts? Does this change your viewpoint at all?

Uh, are you referring to my use of word "militia"? If so, no. I equate militia as the same as you have described here: Local people defending their local stuff.

So far as I know, militias are like "clubs", with no official legal role.

I am referring to you characterizing him merely as a 17 year old kid roaming the streets at night with an AR15 who was agitating and shooting people.

That's a one-sided characterization that shows pure bias or ignorance.

Really?

Let's see:
1. 17 years old. Check.
2. roaming the streets at night Check.
3. with an AR15. Check.
4. agitating and killing people. Check.

Looks like facts to me. Thank you for summarizing my post so neatly!

Hmmm.
What is your characterization?
Is it rooted in facts? Or your bias, arrogance?

Rittenhouse represents a segment of American society which is frowned upon: militia.

Q: What is a 17 year old kid doing roaming the streets at night with an AR15??
A: Agitating and shooting people.

It's the same type who stormed the Michigan statehouse, and the US Capitol.

It's also reminiscent, perhaps, of a lynch mob.

Does that help you understand?

Most shootings are suicide, or perpetrated by people who know one another. Rittenhouse is out there in the streets, imposing his stupid mindset upon "us". Perhaps that's key to your question.

You probably thought that because that's what he and his lawyer have said. According to this article, the business owner didn't ask for or need their help.

His original lawyer* (who has become a radicalized right wing lawyer) said that Rittenhouse took a rifle because "Kenosha had become a war zone. Any sensible person would take that." Seems like his lawyer thought he knew what he was doing.

If you are a 17 year old kid, the last place you should be is in the middle of a "war zone" with an assault rifle. Of course having untrained and irresponsible people wielding guns in contentious situations will lead to homicides
and this whole affair will only heighten the right wing love affair with vigilante anti protester "justice."

*I don't know the history but it's possible he switched lawyers when his first one was hospitalized with a bad case of COVID because …. Anti-vaxxer.

Clapping!

Idiot.
People need to put down their guns, go home, get off the streets, break bread with fellow Americans.
Not grab guns, increase crowds and nerves, not pull trigger.

He escalated the situation by being there with his gun, not de-escalated.

If he hadn't been there with an AR-15 he wouldn't have been in any danger. No one fired a gun at him and he willingly put himself in danger for no reason. But that was nothing new for the kid. He previously punched a girl in the back of the head in Kenosha in an encounter that he had no reason to be involved in and spent time hanging out with the local proud boys chapter.

The more you read about him the more you realize he's just a poor kid from a bad broken home who has bought into all of the right wing BS in this country. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that walking around with an AR-15 didn't save Rittenhouse that night, but staying home in Illinois would have.

The fact that he is a hero says a lot about the radical white wing in this country. This story is an example of how our country is failing our youth and how extremists are taking advantage of it. We are creating our own right wing American Taliban and people like MSB think it's great.

Clapping AND crying.

If 3 felons didn't show up from out of town to come to Kenosha and set fires and riot, then attack an armed man, they would be alive.

But Rittenhouse was at a bar after midnight wearing a short skirt. He was asking for trouble.

Yes he was. And he got it.

You've inserted a dastardly retort, as well.

Kenosha was a war zone for four days. The National Guard was mobilized. A House of Corrections was burned down, the courthouse was assaulted with firebombs, there was up to 50 million dollars in property damage. The area that was burned was and is mostly African American; a year later and it is still boarded up. Who would do this to their own community? The answer may be not people who lived there.

The police and military were unsuccessful in quelling this insurrection. Kyle Rittenhouse and others believe they can come to the aid of the police and save Kenosha. Here is one of many screw ups by the authorities. These militias are not agents of the state but are given credence by the police as agents of the state( accordingly the " revolutionaries" are also going to recognize them as agents of the state,

One Rittenhouse enters the area he is not a protected " medic" he is a combatant in a war zone facing other combatants with guns, chains, fire bombs, etc. The rules of self defense apply to both sides- kill or be kill. It's amazing more people didn't die; obviously Rittenhouse was no terrorist or dozens would have died.

It's not a story of terrorist or hero. It was life in Dodge Ciry. He should be acquitted.

If he wanted to claim hero status, or simply be helpful, he should have stuck to his water and medic baggie.

Instead, he was strapped with a big gun. We'll never know what was said, but he got himself chased. Just being there with a gun was a threat. He's an idiot who should be convicted - of what exactly I don't know. All parties bear responsibility. Why chase a man with a gun?? Duh! Dumb!!!!! But Kyle pulled the trigger, after putting himself at the scene with the gun - all terrible terrible precursors!!!

To me the biggest lesson from all of this is that it would be better if neither the protesters nor Rittenhouse were allowed to carry guns.
Good thing we have a constitution.

Which apparently allows you to be shot under the right circumstances.

Yup. Kids wearing American flag clogs who cozy up with white supremacists proud boys and beat up girls are heroes for the radical whitists and BI posters like MSB. I'm old enough to remember when conservatives revered true American heroes like those fat idiots in St Louis who brandished firearms to threaten anti-racists peacefully marching down their street.

This judge is an idiot.
They reviewed jury instructions between he and both sides' lawyers over the weekend.
He got back into court, began to read them incoherently today for 40 minutes, and then went off-road and began to say a bunch of self-added instructions.

he got confused, then stopped himself, and excused the jury, and then rehashed what the instructions were with the two lawyers.

What an idiot. That was amazing.
"Hmmm, but if I say, bla bla bla...."

Someone said he looked like a first year law student.
I think he was like Cindy Brady on live TV.
