Interesting thread on Russian military.

The Russian Miltary has been exposed as a bunch of conscripts who are being lead by Generals making very poor decisions.

The former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, retired Admiral James Stavridis explains why Russia's military is not what its cracked up to be.

Great interview yesterday morning.

Yup this is great. It's also something that Elon can do without risking a nuclear Holocaust. Biden has to play it pretty safe and so far has done an admirable job. There is a lot of baseless criticism of Joe by people who don't care about truth or the reality of the situation. We aren't going to risk getting nuked for Ukraine.

I think those who have a knee jerk reflexive wish to criticize everything the administration does are struggling here. I mean the obvious way to "contrast" would be to say, "I think we need to put boots on the ground/ planes in the air in Ukraine", except that would be nuts and even they know it. So instead you get imbecilic memes about the Southern border or whatever as if poor migrants trying to get a better life for themselves had anything to do with a mad man trying to recreate Czarist Russia.

I really can't think of anything I'd say Biden should have done differently here (and that includes letting Macron and Scholz lead different parts of the charge which was tactically brilliant) and I can't remember the last time I felt that way about one of our foreign policy escapades. I mean basically ever.

Credit where credit is due.

Yup. We've basically gotten every foreign policy situation wrong since the wall came down, and decades wrong before that. For whatever reason, Biden is doing a pretty good tap dance right now and the world is better off for it. I hope that continues. Also would be nice if this leads to positive reform in Russia but I won't hold my breath.

Agreed 100%.

Putin lies about everything and complains about everything. We've given Ukraine Helos as recently as January. Get the Ukrainian pilots the aircraft that they need from Poland. Figure out the logistics and just do it. I'm aware of how delicate this situation is. But the Administration should really stop saying what we WONT DO.

That's my only criticism.
Other than that, the Biden Administration has done a pretty good job of "tap-dancing" around Putin's aggression.

Even the endless stream of "what we won't do" statements seem carefully calibrated and well thought out. I mean they basically have said it 50 times at least and every time anyone from the administration or any of the allies opens their mouths about the conflict.

It is clearly designed to prevent us from inadvertently slipping into a hot war and let the Russians and the world know that if the Russians fire at us they are the ones that took the first shot. Also this is designed to suppress domestic opposition regarding sending aid to Ukraine from those who might otherwise view it as a prelude to a hot war. Finally avoids the appearance that whatever Putin did it couldn't have been "that bad" because we ultimately decided against troops on the ground or a no-fly zone (which is where we'd of course come out). So his actions couldn't have been that "over the line." Instead we said this from even before he crossed the border.

Again I can't think of a different way to really play it.

Was 8.8 million per day when Trump took office. 13 million per day at its peak pre-covid. Dropped to a 10 million per day Trump low because of covid. We "reopened" about 9 months ago and demand has been high since. Currently back up to 11.5 million per day.

I would strongly suggest that you start reading the Wall Street Journal and abandon where you've been getting your news. Because you sound totally misinformed.

Under the Biden Administration, more than 3500 oil and gas drilling permits have been approved in the Administration's first year. That's nearly 900 MORE than under the Orange Buffoon.

Furthermore, Biden officials put 80 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico up for auction in the largest offshore oil and gas lease sale in U.S. history last Fall. While it sold only a fraction of that amount - about 1.7 million acres - it netted nearly $192 million and ranked as the most profitable offshore auction since March 2019.

Biden outpaces Trump in issuing drilling permits on public lands (yahoo.com)

From CNN article that summarizes early actions of Biden Administration:

"The administration tried in its first days in office to put a stop to new oil and gas drilling.

On January 27, Biden signed an executive order that paused new permits and directed the Department of Interior to launch a "rigorous review" of existing programs related to fossil fuel development."

This tends to discourage investment. The article goes on to explain how the administration had to open up leasing in the Gulf of Mexico due to a court ruling and in opposition to their desires.

"We're required to comply with the injunction; it's a legal case and legal process," Psaki told reporters Monday. "But it's important for advocates and other people out there to understand that it's not aligned with our view, the President's policies or the executive order that he signed."

DiabloWags
How long do you want to ignore this user?

The U.S. fracking industry has racked up over $200 BILLION in Red Ink since 2005.

As a result, investors and Wall Street Banks over the last several years have shied away from offering financing to this industry.

Fracking companies have had to change their business model.
And the President of the United States has absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS!

They've had to stop drilling for the sake of "Drill Baby Drill!" and showing well head growth and become much more cash conservative and balance sheet conscious. In fact, the CEO of Pioneer Resources recently remarked on their Q4 earnings call last month that even though crude oil prices are high and could go higher, Pioneer would remain cap-ex conservative and have flat production growth.

These are the kind of fundamental facts that you'd never hear about on FAUX NEWS.

This cognitive dissonance (agreeing with basically everything Biden is doing but disliking his performance anyway) is perfectly captured in polling.

It's because these folks have already decided they don't like Biden and are casting about for reasons to still do it. Did this also happen with Trump? Yes, probably. But I can't think of a single issue where his administration was so entirely blameless as Biden has been with Ukraine.

Utah Sen Mitt Romney fiercely criticised former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii on Sunday and suggested that her remarks about the existence of so-called "US biolabs" in Ukraine would result in people being killed.

The Republican senator accused his ex-House counterpart, who served as a Democrat but has shifted far to the right since leaving office, of spreading "treasonous lies" that amounted to "Russian propaganda". His statement came in reference to a video posted by Ms Gabbard that claimed the existence of "25 to 30" US-funded biolabs that she went on to assert "if breached would release & spread deadly pathogens to US/world".
