FIFA = yuck. Though I believe prostitution is legal throughout Europe. They've lost so many industries w high taxes and energy costs, I guess this helps tourism and lines pockets. In the 1990s I read about U.N. troops allegedly using brothels run by Bosnia Serbs.

Well they kind of blew it, big time, Russia would have struggled with that larger stockpile of AA systems if they actually did scrap a lot of them, even the aging ones were pretty solid. It took Russia a year and a half to deplete and attrit Ukraine's stockpile of Soviet era S-300s and Buks, it would have taken longer had they held on to the rest of that stock.

The goal back then in the weapons scrap was to have Ukraine replace these weapons with new NATO hardware, same as with all the other EE NATO affiliates (Poland, Romania etc), big business there.

In a static, artillery-dominated war, one side has a 10 to 1 advantage in artillery, a big edge in electronic warfare neutralizing 90% of drone attacks, complete air superiority saturating the battlegrounds with large glide bombs, and uses conservative tactics geared towards preserving their numbers.

Russian parents/wives/family members receive relatively good benefits if their man dies on the front, alongside state and local honors. The aggregate numbers are not made public, but individual deaths are, so it's not that difficult of a job for Mediazona to compile these numbers.

Korea have had. In the US, Wall Street-driven excessive financialization and outsourcing of industry as well as the lack of any central planning across entire supply chains has resulted in China building a competitive advantage in a number of emerging industries like electric vehicles.

The coordination between the Chinese government and private industry to dominate various industries is indisputable. They're playing a completely different game. There is no possible way western companies can compete with that which is why China sends us virtually every manufactured good imaginable and we send them scrap and hay.

Germany was fairly competitive with China, until we blew up their pipelines. Ironically with the sanctions on Russia, China is now getting cheaper oil, gas and other resources from them.

We have cheap abundant energy, what we lack is a coherent industrial policy.

Competitive, but for for how much longer even with cheap Russian energy? And Germany is an outlier anyway.

Just saw a stat that blew my mind. In China, capital formation is 45%.
Granted, a good chunk of that is real estate development but capital investment in China is extreme. If every nation did that, what would happen to the world economy? Call it successful industrial policy if you like but it's really just a modern twist on mercantilism, a form of economic warfare. The Japanese viewed it as warfare and so do the Chinese.

We brought back some of the low end chip manufacturing to Arizona. With abundant energy resources, if we altered some of the tariffs with Europe, we could make things interesting.

But we lost a lot of the WWII and Korean War mnf know how, but technology has changed some of that. High schools used to have shop, trade schools help in some areas.

It would be great to also address our own BigPharma manufacturing, or lack thereof. RFK Jr.?
