If the case against Trump was so weak, how did the jury and the appeals court not see through it? They both found against him.

Appellate courts aren't triers of fact. They deferred to the NY legislature, and they must accept the jury's verdict (factual determination), absent evidence the judge improperly directed them on New York's new law.

Okay, so how did the jury get so badly fooled here?

(Yes, I know that a civil case has a lower standard of proof than a criminal one. Still, they seemed to return a unanimous verdict pretty quickly.)

How can Russia be running out of ammunition when:

1. It is a manufacturing powerhouse
2. It never gave up manufacturing, like America and much of the EU
3. It's not populated by whacky peaceniks; they're realists
4. It has abundant raw materials, including cheap, reliable energy
5. It had massive stockpiles to begin with
6. They have a lower cost basis
7. Iran supplied them w low-cost drones
8. International objective logistics entities have tracked massive shipments from North Korea of easily tracked 40' shipping containers to Russia and near the staging areas / depots
9. They've been watching NATO march eastward for 2 decades

Trump's lawyers couldn't do anything about that? Also, didn't Trump make big gains in NYC this time around? Haven't his supporters been crowing about that? Theoretically there should have been someone on the jury who was resistant to the verdict; instead they came back within 3 hours and ruled against Trump.

Are you really surprised that a jury pool that voted 87% against Trump would find him guilty, especially after the media has portrayed him as a monster? They simply don't like him. A lot of people don't.

Yeah, but the way you guys talk this was obviously a false accusation brought by a nutjob. No one on the jury saw through that? Trump's lawyers couldn't convince a single person?

Or maybe the case wasn't as weak as you and your right-wing sources claim.

There shouldn't be a statute of limitations on sex crimes.
This is a terrible take. Can you recall exactly where you were and what you did 10 years ago today? 15? 20? 25?

The purpose of an SOL is to ensure that evidence/testimony is reliable, collected ASAP, and that the defendant has a reasonable chance of defending him/herself. Among other things, you need to ability to collect contemporaneous witness statements, etc.

I know people here hate Trump. But it is absurd to expect him (or anyone else) to defend themselves against a vague allegation of wrongdoing that occurred 20+ years in the past when the plaintiff can't even specify the date of the alleged assault.
To you and Oski003, my opinion has nothing to do with Trump. Some crimes are so heinous and damaging to the victim that the perpetrator shouldn't escape justice because it took too much time to identify him. DNA evidence makes identification very reliable even decades later.
DNA evidence doesn't tell you much in the context of a he said/she said allegation. Obviously, it is more probative in a situation where a rape is immediately reported but the perpetrator cannot be found - and I would agree with you in that context.

Of course, the Trump claims had nothing to do with DNA and were civil (not criminal) so there wasn't even a question of a crime. It was a pure smear/hit job where, incidentally, the plaintiff's attorneys fees were paid by a democrat political operative (Reid Hoffman).

Do you deny that this man is on RT? That this man is part of a Putin think tank? Are you that washed?

Do you get paid to spout nato propaganda no matter how untruthful it is?

Tell me exactly what the NATO propaganda is? I'm curious. Give me a baseline of NATO propaganda. Because I'm more debunking 88's outlandish reposting of tweets more than I am trying to back up NATO. I'm wondering why 88 is in the bag for Russia. He's no peacenik. He isn't saying "make love not war". He's actively cheering for Russia. I'm debunking Russian propaganda and calling out his "sources" more than defending NATO. So give me some nato propaganda and we can go from there.

Are you still not going to admit that the Biden Ukraine conspiracy stuff was a lie? You got the win. Can you just admit that it was all a lie?

And I said all those tweets were from Russian aligned social media. Can he give me something a bit more independent minded? probably not.

lol I am not paid by NATO. But 88 clearly is either Russian, is getting paid or is spouting propaganda and doesn't know he's being influenced by the Russians.

Again, I ask, where is the NATO propaganda?

I don't read bull**it posts. So you're saying NATO is publishing all of that? Or...the dreaded "mainstream media". Provide me with links apart from 88's propagandist tweet reposts.

As for running out of ammo. I never posted that and no arms estimate I have seen has reported that. What I have read is that in mid 2025, Russia is going to have an artillery problem. As for Russian economic collapse - same deal. Wartime economy; wage and pay incentives to join either arms industry or actually joining the army is shrinking civil society employment. 21% interests rates also shrinking civil economy. Not happening now but look to mid 2025. Do you have any information apart from 88's Russian propaganda that show North Korean soldiers haven't taken any casualties? If so, where? Its near 3 years on now. I thought this gonna be over in 3 days?

There is disinformation on both sides. That doesn't justify Cal88 posting his disinformation/tweets as if they are true. Tweets are not evidence. You need to look at the actual source of the report and make a judgment.

For example, a tweet quoting information released by the Gaza Health Ministry (aka Hamas) is worthless because the underlying source should be viewed with extreme skepticism. Hamas has been caught lying repeatedly. I have no problem saying that information released by the Israeli government should also received extra scrutiny albeit their track record is far better than Hamas'. And its ok to say that the truth is unclear.

The trial judge has tremendous discretion, particularly as to what evidence the jury does and does not see. Is there any real doubt that the judge in this case was horribly biased against Trump?

Well, for one thing, the judge was a democratic donor, including a 2020 donation to Biden for President. His daughter was also a dem fundraiser who was actively fundraising based on the happenings in the case. So he should have recused.

To answer your question, here are some examples of bias.

Letting in irrelevant and inflammatory Storm Daniels testimony. https://nypost.com/2024/05/07/opinion/judge-allows-stormy-daniels-to-give-irrelevant-salacious-testimony-just-to-humiliate-trump/

more here on Jury instructions not following supreme court rulings: https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/05/merchan-and-bragg-fashion-a-vague-fraud-instruction-to-convict-trump/amp/

Merchan Imposed an unconstitutional gag order on Trump - eventually reversed by appellate court.

Merchan would not allow Trump to introduce evidence that Federal investigators did not find a violation of election law (which is what the prosecutor Bragg was arguing to support his case). On top of that, he allowed Cohen's guilty plea deal to be introduced into evidence to imply Trump had committed a crime - and allowed the prosecution to make that exact argument.

To that point, Merchan would not permit former Federal Election Commission Chairman Bradley Smith to testify as to the meaning and complexities of the Federal Election Campaign Act. This was a disputed issue at the trial and he allowed the prosecution to pursue a novel (and previously rejected) theory of alleged federal election violations.

Refusing to recess the trial to allow Trump to attend his supreme court hearing.

Forcing Trump presidential aides to testify regarding presidential decisions/acts and then allowing the prosecution to use Trump's official acts as evidence of a claimed crime. The Supreme Court subsequently ruled this was not permitted yet Merchan has refused to set aside the verdict.

Here is a good overview which discusses some of the above as well as additional points:

lol I am not paid by NATO. But 88 clearly is either Russian, is getting paid or is spouting propaganda and doesn't know he's being influenced by the Russians.

Again, I ask, where is the NATO propaganda?

Russia running out of ammo. Natos counter-offensive crushing Russia. Russia's economy collapsing. Russia blowing up its own pipeline. 1000 North Korean troops killed. Putin not stopping to take all of Eastern Europe. Etc... Etc... Etc... Some of this was mentioned in Cal 88's post that I reference but you apparently can't read.

It certainly is, when it comes to killing women and children by the tens of thousands.

No 88. What I am saying is you are completely bent. It's astonishing that you eat this Russian hype. What I wrote was that Glenn Diesen is a Russian propagandist so ANYTHING coming out of this guys mouth or that he tweets should be taken for exactly what it is: Russian propaganda.

I agree with you - Why to Hamas and Hezbollah keep doing this?

Internet Operative Log For Glory of Mother Russia:

Today is day 1050 of 3 for me at internet Siberia post Bear Insider. I have spent the last 3 years (out of 3 days) providing information to the same 7 individual posters and an additional one that has seemed to have roughly as many screen names as days that have passed. Some of the group seem to be interested in football, though they in general don't have much to talk about. Of interest lately was defection of a field general to another university in Indiana. Antics like those they speak of him engaging in would be met with a balcony visit in Mother Russia. There is an interesting fellow who is obsessed with young women in yoga pants who talks to himself in his own thread. He is a curious fellow. The university also apparently has a men's basketball team, but nobody speaks of them.

Oh well, it's time for me to get back to work. I am grateful for ChatCCCP as it saves me much time. I believe I will post picture of Moscow's beautiful metro station today. Those never get old.

I miss my family. I can't believe that this is what I am doing with my time on this planet but know that I'm making a big difference.

Viva Putin and GO BEARS (I refer to the Moscow Circus here)!

The only way he is so brainwashed into thinking he is on a 3 day mission if he listens to Philly's shilled nato propaganda and somehow has no communication with his military leaders. I highly doubt that.

I do tend to post in this subforum. It's true!

Only 9,121 more OT forum posts and I'll be square with you. If you stop posting in this forum and I continue at my current rate, I'll catch up to you sometime after the sun collapses.

All hail Putin, architect of the 3 day SMO!
