Isn't this war over? I stopped paying attention after Trump was elected because he said he could have it over in 24 hours.

I just assumed he followed through with his promise. Surely I wasn't duped by a con man?!? I must be the biggest moron of all to believe such a proven liar and hypocrite.

So we're going with sources that post photoshopped images of Trump in a general's uniform?

Very on brand for KoolAid Conservatives.

Here is the source from that tweet, the Kyiv Post, Ukrainian pro-NATO newspaper:

The con here was the fake news about Ukraine winning the war, taking back the Donbas, or even managing to hold the Russians back, which has been the pretext to sustaining this war, which has already cost Ukraine nearly 700,000 lives.

Trump is not going to end the war in 24hrs, but he did change the whole outlook for peace in his first days as president. He deserves credit for acknowledging that the war is unwinnable for Ukraine and the carnage needs to be stopped. He is the first western head of state to decry the loss of lives on both sides of this conflict, and that is already a monumental shift.

TL;DR: Trump lied. Again. And moron conservatives believed it and touted the claim, but now scramble to move the goal posts and make excuses.

Gee! Who could have seen that coming?
At least he's lowered consumer prices to pre pandemic levels, right?

Nice deflection. Not talking about Biden. Why do you bring him up? Do you have BDS?

Trump's criticism of Putin "ruining Russia" was obviously discontent with Putin rejecting his overture. But, agreed, Trump doesn't want these wars screwing with his Presidency. Unlike Biden, he'll look for ways out without worrying about our "allies."

Sure, Trump, like every president who has been in office ever, has not completed 100% of his campaign promises. I am confident, however, that the Ukraine War will end faster under Trump than Biden. If the US goal was to hurt Russia at the expense of Ukraine, it did a hell of a job and Biden was successful in sabotaging peace deals. Otherwise, the war has been a disaster.

Funny how easily you dismiss this. I suspect you're cool with all the other lies he told. Cuz politicians lie, and if it's your side doing the lying, it's all good.

I get it. You want to come on BI and whine about a politician breaking a promise by not meeting a deadline without anyone pointing out your absurdity. Sweet.

Liberals: liars, hypocrites, and morons.

Fascinating. I read about MHD before but not in this context. Apparently, it was being looked at as a replacement for the Rankine cycle in the production of electricity with the potential to be far more efficient. I wonder if the Russians have made any progress on that.

I'm not aware of those applications of MHD, it sounds interesting.

Arguably the most legitimate leader in Europe, based on the results of the last 4 elections in Hungary, but of course that's not what you will read in WSJ Peggy Noonan editorials.

Because pointing out that the guy has been elected by wide margins the last 4 elections means I don't give a damn about free speech.

Missing from your statement are the qualifiers "free and fair" before elections.

They are missing because the elections resulting in Orban victories are anything but free and fair. Much like the Ukrainian election you cite as justification for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Elections in Hungary are a billion times freer and fairer than US elections with Citizens United, billion dollar lobbying with foreign country "handlers" assigned to each congressman, complete duopoly control, and vote counting that takes months after the elections, complete clown show.

You and Diablo are pretty clueless when it comes to European or international politics.

Florida elections were a sh-tshow before they, including South Florida and crooked officials, were cleaned up / removed.

Funny thing now. DeSantis a decent governor (wilted on national stage), and now Florida leans Red every election.

Russia vanquishing Ukraine and NATO, and now thus genius pontificate-s. Is this Ursula? Filter, or facelift?

Orban run against neoliberal pro-EU candidates that are favored by the NYT and Euro MSM and clobbered them in the last 4 elections. The links argue that his party gerrymandered voting districts, while ignoring the fact that he destroyed his oppositions in absolute numbers, garnishing an absolute majority of the popular vote.

AunBear89

If you chose to be ignorant on this topic, as you do on others when confronted with contrary evidence, then I guess there really is no point.

Your slavish devotion to and frothing defense of authoritarians who win rigged elections is consistent and noted.

I have addressed one of the main arguments against Orban, that his party gerrymandered voting districts, by stating the obvious, that his party received the absolute majority of the popular votes.

Quote:

The faade of the electoral system: gaining legitimacy with biased rules

Using elections to gain legitimacy is an old tactic: autocratic leaders from the Soviet Union to Cuba have used elections to create a democratic faade. In 2010, for the first time since the democratization of Hungary, power was concentrated in the hands of a single political power. Following the parliamentary elections in 2010, with a supermajority, the Fidesz-KDNP Party Alliance introduced a new electoral law written behind closed doors and without plural political debate. Without any transparency, the government created a new map of constituencies with districts that varied drastically in size and heavily benefitted Orbn's party coalition Fidesz-KDNP. In addition, the law replaced two-round elections in single-member constituencies with a majority support with a Winner-Take-All system; legalized "voter-tourism"; "winner compensation"; and strategically granted citizenship and voting rights to 450,000 near-abroad citizens who were known to support Fidesz. These innovations helped him secure a two-thirds majority in both 2014 and 2018.

They also complain about the "first to the gate/winner takes all" political system, but that is exactly the system that many democracies like the UK or Canada run.

Invectives is all you've got here, because you cannot respond to these basic facts.

He just might be one of the most IGNORANT people on this board.
And that's saying an awful lot.

Never mind that the ruling party (Orban) controls much of the media and advertising landscape.
And the OSCE took the unusual move of deploying a full-scale mission involving 200 observers to Hungary for the last election.
