Bloomberg -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called US State Secretary Marco Rubio to advise him to evacuate US citizens and diplomats from Kyiv, as the Kremlin plans to continue heavy strikes on the Ukrainian capital, according to a statement published by the Russian Foreign Ministry Monday.

Putin has been getting a lot of criticism at home for letting the war drag on. Ukraine has stepped up its drone game and compensating for its artillery and air force shortfalls.

I see a lot of parallels here with Trump in Iran. The political backlash can't come as quickly in Russia due to the more authoritarian government but it will come.

Commentator Alexander Mercouris claims most Ukranian drones didn't get through, and the Ukranian bombing of the college dormitory was responded to with Oreshnik hypersonic missiles sent to Kiev, along w other missiles. Unknown how many, but one allegedly also sent to a city south of Kiev. He believes this marks what will be an increased focus on Kiev.

'Leave Kyiv': Why Russia's latest Ukraine threat is a major escalation

"Russia and Ukraine have been at war since February 2022 and have not yet agreed on a peace deal."

"Due to these facilities being allegedly "scattered throughout Kyiv", Moscow told "foreign citizens, including personnel of diplomatic missions and international organisations, to leave the city as soon as possible", the statement read.

"The ministry's statement also urged Kyiv residents to avoid all military and administrative infrastructure facilities in the capital, which could be potential targets."

Your level of discourse is generally good, but on this topic it tends to be overly simplistic and largely based on gross generalization and cultural stereotypes rather than historical and geopolitical facts.

No, it's about reminding everyone the basic truth of how this war started, one country invading another without being attacked first. You guys want to introduce all of these other historical factors and motivations and complications, which are certainly true enough (well, in most cases they are), but I will still continue pointing out that it still doesn't justify Putin invading another country and trying to conquer it. Why anyone thinks it does it beyond me.

There were "historical" reasons why Bush wanted to invade Iraq too, but that doesn't make it justified or a good idea.

I've said nothing about Russian "culture" one way or the other. I don't know why you keep trying to pin that on me. It's the actions of their government, full stop.

You can't really make sense of the Donbas or Crimea without the very basic concept of Russian culture there, in opposition to the brand of 1930s Ukrainian nationalism that was armed, promoted with a regime change by NATO.

Country A invaded country B, Putin is a bad hombre - those are superficial takes that have led to over a million deaths in a war that eastern Europe did not need and could have easily avoided with proper leadership.

Me, I think that Putin invading Ukraine is what has led to all those deaths. Whatever other mistakes you think the US or NATO made, they didn't create that. Unless you think Putin and his government have none of their own agency and are just animals responding to stimuli.

It's not even about whether or not he's a "bad hombre." He still made the decision. It wasn't forced on him.

The US and UK Demand a Long War: Fighting Russia with Ukrainians

"In late March 2022, Zelensky revealed in an interview with the Economist that "There are those in the West who don't mind a long war because it would mean exhausting Russia, even if this means the demise of Ukraine and comes at the cost of Ukrainian lives".[6]

"The Israeli and Turkish mediators confirmed that Ukraine and Russia were both eager to make a compromise to end the war before the US and the UK intervened to prevent peace from breaking out."

"Zelensky had contacted former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to mediate the peace negotiations with Moscow. Bennett noted that Putin was willing to make "huge concessions" if Ukraine would restore its neutrality to end NATO expansion. Zelensky accepted this condition and "both sides very much wanted a ceasefire". However, Bennett argued that the US and UK then intervened and "blocked" the peace agreement as they favoured a long war."

Includes 22 citations. ^^^

More opinion from former paid RT contributor Glenn Diesen. A lot of this hinges on how much you believe Putin's promises were real, which I do not.

Your stance is based on superficial takes that completely ignore the history and demography of Ukraine, and on a comic book take of Putin as the "bad hombre" a la 1939.

However, seasoned, smart foreign policy actors like Bill Clinton and Obama have stated that Putin has always kept his word:

Your stance also ignores the reality of this war, and these basic facts :

-Ukraine has already lost 1.5M KIAs and is still losing men at a very high rate
-Ukraine cannot possibly win this war of attrition
-The majority Russian territories that Russia has annexed don't want to be part of a Ukraine that wants to erase their culture
- The majority of soldiers in Ukraine are being forcibly conscripted, with ever increasing violence, they are now using guns against the families and neighbors of men being forcibly captured:

It is not in Ukraine's interest to continue fighting, Zelensky's alliance of oligarchs, war profiteers and ultranationalists do not represent the average Ukrainian.

The deal offered by the Russians, which boils down to freezing the borders, NATO out of Ukraine and basic rights to minorities inside Ukraine, is a reasonable one. The alternative being hundreds of thousands more Ukrainian KIAs and more territory annexed by Russia over the next 2 years, they will annex all of the remaining Russian-speaking areas of Ukraine.

Cal88 has already been caught spreading misinformation about casualties in this war so there is every reason to be skeptical.

Cal88 has used Russian KIA counts from an anti Putin website that was trying to document who died. Their data was never intended to be a full accounting of Russian KIA.

Cal88 has conflated Russian KIA numbers with Ukrainian casualty numbers (which include wounded).

Ukrainian KIA has to be 1.8 million or larger.

History Legends claims Kostiantynivka is surrounded on three sides; Kostiantynivka a key city in the Donbas. Meanwhile, Ukraine supposedly hit a Russian port city.

Cross-posting on the appropriate thread here, about two important events that took place this week.

First, Zelensky's glorifying OUN leader Andrij Melnyk yesterday with a grand state burial ceremony. Melnyk was an SS leader of a Ukrainain nazi division that was so brutal that even German SS were put off.

Melnyk took on the mantle of the Ukrainian neo-nazi movement after the death of Stepan Bandera

Translated from Polish
Zelensky's admiration for Melnykism is nothing new.
Here: he lays flowers at the grave of Andriy Melnyk, an officer of the Sich Riflemen, leader of the OUN-M, a Hitler collaborator.

There is no coverage of this or of Melnyk's background in the NATO-aligned MSM.

Second, Ukraine deliberately targeted and bombed/double-tapped a prep school dorm at 2am in in the Donbas that killed 21 Ukrainian Russians last week.

Kyiv claims to represent the Donbas and the people there, while the locals want nothing to do with them. Notice how there is no guerilla-type pushback from Donbas locals against Russian troops, same as in Crimea, which has been officially Russian for 12 years now.

Prof. John Mearsheimer :

A number of European leaders have basically said we should fight to the last Ukrainian, which I find morally sickening.

The Ukrainians are going to lose this war. They should have quit a long time ago for their own good.

Ukraine is in a demographic death spiral, and we're encouraging them to throw bodies into the meat grinder when they're going to lose anyway.

The British, French, and German leaders are really enthusiastic about continuing the war, but that's because their people are not dying."

I'm pretty sure Russia is the aggressor and therefore only they can actually stop the war. This ask from Mearsheimer is basically telling Ukraine to just give up and let Russia take what they want.

I can't believe other European leaders wouldn't be interested in this approach!

The Ukrainians signed on to Minsk, and all but ratified the Istanbul agreement, The Russians would agree to an Istanbul Plus type of agreement which would be a basis for a permanent settlement. The coalition that wants the war to go on to the last Ukrainian consisting of corrupt leaders in Kyiv, ultranationalists and NATO stands in the way.
