There is definitely a huge disconnect between the party leaders and the party base on this. The ground has shifted so quickly beneath the politicians that they haven't realized it yet.

IMO the way "Israel" keeps being used as a synonym for "Jewish people" should be disturbing to everyone, not least all non-Israeli Jews. You don't want your ethnicity tied to a specific state with specific politics and policy goals that you have no control over.

There's no similar effort to tie all Russian-Americans to whatever Putin does, for example.

"Ingrained" may be pushing it. I don't think Israeli society was THIS hard-line for all (or even most) of its history. That said, yes, as a democracy their current government also reflects the will of the people to some degree. I just think that if I were part of the Jewish diaspora I would not want to feel like whatever happened in that country had to reflect upon me.

It is completely and totally rational for Israeli's to think there are no innocents in Gaza. Gazans have chosen to be represented by a string of political entities who all share the belief that Israel must go and Jews must be killed; all of them have committed terrorism against Israel. Gazans participated in surprise attack on Israel. Gazans have housed / hidden Israeli prisoners; their homes are used to store weapons for Hamas; they celebrate in the street when returned prisoners are paraded about before being released back to Israel; they have seen 10+ years of Hamas attacks on Israel and done nothing. If you are Israeli it is not genodical to believe Gazans are not innocent.

It is genocidal to genocide the Gazans, which is what Israel has been doing. I don't believe that the majority of Israeli are innocent either, but I don't advocate their genocide.

Almost all Gazans are civilians refugees from Palestine who were ethnically cleansed in 1948 Nakba, where populations of entire villages like Deir Yassir or Tantura were massacred by terrorist groups like Irgun and Stern gang, which became the "IDF". Literally hundreds of Palestinian villages were wiped off the map, and the survivors fled to Gaza and the West Bank.




There is nothing that Hamas did on October 7 that the Israelis did not do on a larger scale and with greater horror in many documented massacres, from 1948 to the current mass slaughter. In fact the Israelis have demonstrated savagery and sadism on a unprecedented scale.

In order to justify this mass slaughter, you have to resort to lies like stating that Palestinians want "Jews to be killed", or that the Palestinians were the party that initiated the violence in Gaza, as if events events like the Israelis shooting 8,000 peaceful protestors with live ammunition only a few years ago never happened.

Your stance is basically a symptom of decades of Israeli propaganda and gaslighting. That spell has been lifted in many parts of the world, notably in Europe, and also in America among younger people who didn't grow up with the same level of brainwashing and don't rely on cable TV, newsprint and astroturfed right wing sites for their world views.

I don't know how much you can say that Gazans have "chosen" to be represented by anyone when there was one election in 2007 and then nothing since.

That said, I don't deny that the Palestinians have also had some pretty terrible leadership that was unwilling to compromise, both now and in the past. I just also think there are a lot of people in Gaza who had nothing to do with any of that, because they are not old enough to have been there, and I do not support continued violence against the civilians.

There is reportedly an offer on the table - which Israel has agreed to - for Hamas leaders to be safely exiled, for prisoners to be returned, for Gazans who want it to be relocated and for UAE/Egypt to assume control of Gaza. Curious decision for Israeli the genocidists to make.

Israel is very good at these PR stunts, this "reasonable offer on the table" is a narrative they have cultivated since the days of Arafat. It helps a lot that the editorial board of outlets like the NYT, WSJ, Fox or even CNN are always on board.
