No. Better examples of the Trump administration trying to shift the Overton window is the notion of stripping political dissenters of their US citizenship, or the repeal of birthright citizenship. Those policies had been well outside the accepted norms, and now the latter at least is up for debate, so it has now moved inside the Overton window.

The diplomatic faux pas I was referring to is the humiliating treatment and summary expulsion of Korean executives and contractors at the Hyundai plant.

As it gets used around here, it means that Democrats have shifted FAR to the left while Republicans haven't budged an inch over the years. In reality, both have shifted away from the middle, Democrats to the left and Republicans to the right.

I'm not even sure the Dems have moved that far to the left, if you take away a small group of nuts that yelled "Defund the police!" and a somewhat-larger-but-still-not-huge number of folks that might be a little too far out in front on some cultural issues (trans issues, land acknowledgements, etc.).

As far as capitalism vs. socialism, the Dems are firmly in the American mainstream, save for the Squad and people like that.

- supported BLM while they burned businesses, killed dozens, and caused Billions in damages
- Democrat Senate and House leaders kneeled for criminal and druggie George Floyd
- opened the southern border to 10 - 21 million new illegal immigrants
- which aided the cartels shipping powerful drugs into our big cities, creating zombielands
- defunded police and cashless bail across the USA
- effectively destroyed our formerly civil cities
- support and fund Drag Queen hour for children, sex-change operations for children, and hiding it from parents

I don't know the stats are nationwide but anecdotally it seemed like the "defunders" were (at least in my case living in Oakland) in great volume and shouted down any notion that we needed more and better copsโ€ฆโ€ฆsince then, and after the carnage that is now many parts of oakland, that talk has died down and their (the defunders I know) tune has changed.

A friend explores Oakland about once a month. Some recent positive signs:

- a huge drug bazaar / homeless encampment along the freeway that stretched for blocks was cleared out by volunteers
- a park near International / Vietnamese area cleared out a few months back
- Grand Lake area cleaner than we've seen before; could still use basic repairs - graffiti removal, broken concrete, Covid graffiti up high on buildings, etc. But little trash.

The new Crazy Block Cheesecakes on Lakeshore has amazing BBQ!! They also serve Latkes and Cheesecakes. Owner hands on, positive, a bit loud. We've eaten there twice. The tri tip was great, Mac n cheese too, and the lamb sandwich WAS AMAZING! Brick building, colorful wall paintings. Plethora of cheesecake options. Limited availability of a huge "dino bone"- available on weekends? Google 4.9 / Yelp 4.8.

That opinion piece from May 2017 had paragraphs about the adoption of TrumpCare and the impending all out attack on Medicaid that made me question the accuracy of his other opinions, which were just that, opinions.

Bono pulls a "300,000 deaths" out of his backside without an ounce of proof. Odds are Bono got some USAID slushfund $$$, too.

USAID money, like many bureaucracies or scams, had 85% - 90% going to Democrat staffing, Democrat NGOs, and the CIA.

This other Brit might be rich, but all three show zero interest in our $2 Trillion yearly deficit. Musk was just lopping off the first obvious layer of graft. Musk is a seminal figure, these other three will quickly be forgotten. Mr. Wonderful's response was average at best.
