Bumped into a protest yesterday at 4 th street Berkeley Tesla. Kind of funny that the preening halo seeking Tesla owners are now villains in their own morality play

At first, we loved it," said Susan Helmrich of Berkeley, who purchased a white Tesla Model 3 in 2021. "It has a lot of amazing features. Everything about it was great until about a year ago when Elon Musk came more into the public domain. At that point, I couldn't stand driving it, particularly when Musk and Trump became partners. I couldn't stand having anything to do with the Trump administration. Helmrich attached a small "regret magnet" on her Tesla that read: "I bought this before I knew how awful he was." She later attached a larger one. "

Makes sense.

This being said, TSLA is way overvalued, they're going to get trounced abroad by Chinese EVs and at home affluent libs are pissed. $1.2 trillion market cap is going to be halved.

Even more stupid for people to base their purchasing decisions on politics. That may be the single most divisive/tribal thing we can do as a country.

Tesla makes a good product. I bought one when Elon was a man of the left (and Tesla was a darling of the left). I bought my second one when he was on the right. The purchasing decision was based on price/features and what was available from other manufacturers. If another company had a better options or better value proposition (and I think that may be coming in the next 2-5 years), then I'd buy from that company.

I wonder how many people boycotting buy Mercedes/BMW/VW which, back in the day, supported Nazis? Or buy products made in China, a very repressive country?

Teslas can have problems with the battery, Autopilot, power steering, and other systems. Some say that Teslas have below-average reliability.

Battery
Battery degradation: The battery's maximum capacity decreases over time due to driving habits, weather, and charging cycles. However, some Tesla owners report only a 5-10% loss in range after driving over 150,000 miles.

Premature battery wear: The battery pack can wear out prematurely, especially in cold weather.

Autopilot and cruise control
Autopilot issues: There can be issues with the Autopilot feature.

Power steering
Power steering failure: The power steering system can fail.

Other issues
Occasional loss of power: The car can occasionally lose power.

Poor build quality: There can be issues with the build quality of the car.

Unreliable warning lights: The warning lights can be unreliable.

Faulty touchscreen: The touchscreen can be faulty.

Electronic door latch: The electronic door latch can fail.

A similar issue is coming up for me. It was very apparent to me, anyway, from Tiger's interview with Jim Nantz today at the Genesis Open that the merger of the PGA and LIV is merely a formality now.

I have serious issues with The Kingdom and MBS. I have issues with the fact Trump is leveraging his position as POTUS to make this happen at this point in time, directly and indirectly through surrogates like Tiger, and that he stands to gain financially from the events which undoubtedly will be held at his courses.

I'd like to say I will protest by not watching golf tourneys on TV anymore….but that probably won't happen.

All cars have problems.

What all electric vehicles do you find to be better made (in the same price range) or a better value proposition?

My second Tesla was a better car and $15-20k less than the first one. There was nothing else competitive - and I looked.

Your post does not respond to what I said. Musk/Tesla had nothing to do with Jan 6. His views are well within the overton window.

Trump garnered support from more than 50% of the voting country. You need to come to grips with that. Boycotting anyone supporting (or working for) Trump is idiotic, tribal, and divisive.

By your absurd standard, no one should buy any product/service from any company supporting Biden or national dem candidates. After all, they support killing babies (abortion) and a variety of other very unpopular policies (trans sports, border).

Or maybe we just buy the best product and let people have their own separate political views.

China is not a "very repressive country", you only need to travel there or talk with mainlanders to realize that this is mostly propaganda. They have the government that is best suited for their culture and country.

I wonder what the Uyghurs think about this statement? Or the Dalai Lama? Or the protestors in Hong Kong? Or the other people opposing the CCP that were disappeared?

There is no personal freedom or liberty in China apart from the CCP's official line. Full stop. No freedom of expression or the press. No opposition parties are tolerated.

Maybe the Chinese love that system given their "culture and country." That doesn't change the fact that it is objectively repressive.

It is amazing how you never fail to defend the very worst of humanity, be it Putin, Hamas, or the totalitarian CCP.

Unless Musk (who was a democrat at the time) was involved in Jan 6, your linking to a Jan 6 gif is irrelevant.

Suggesting people should not buy Teslas because of Jan 6 is devoid of logic. Neither Musk nor anyone in Tesla management has defended Jan 6.

And it doesn't refute my statement that basing purchasing decisions on politics is divisive and tribal. Implicit in that approach is the belief that your political opponents with views well within the mainstream (i.e., Musk) should be punished and don't deserve to earn a living. That is gross and evil. And the logical extension of that view - the each of us have to support only companies that support our views - is stupid and destructive.

By your logic, no republican/conservative should give $1 to Cal or a variety of other non profits. Do you support that? Is that good for the country?

You conflate so many things in your mind, it is clearly difficult for you to organize your thoughts.

Strangely, you don't realize there's a difference between: (i) what a company does and how it treats its customers; and (ii) what its executives/employees do outside of the company.

Budweiser was "punished" because it was perceived to have disrespected its customer base - their add executive was specifically quoted as disrespecting its existing customer base. She disparaged the customers as "fratty" and "out of touch" and sought to move the brand to "inclusivity." She politicized the brand. Again - this is Bud Light whose target customers are mostly sports fans and college kids. LOL.

First they came for our Teslas..

"John Ratto was walking on Hudson Street in the Rockridge district of Oakland on Feb. 2 when he spotted a flyer stuck on the windshield of a Tesla. It featured a picture of Musk doing a Nazi salute and read: "Sell your car or we will get rid of it for you. Nazi cars not welcome here."

The police department in Arcata in northern California reported that four Teslas had threatening flyers stuck in their windshields in early February, according to The Lost Coast Outpost, a local newspaper. The news organization received an envelope in the mail from a group calling itself SANE, which stands for Students Against Nazi Extremism. There was a note that contained "a manifesto, of sorts, and plan of attack," the Outpost reported. "It calls Tesla CEO Elon Musk 'an overt Nazi with a history of fascist, racist, misogynist and criminal behavior' and describes a plan to 'inflict physical damage to Tesla-branded vehicles' over the next month or so."
